With regards to the second point though, Hooky's a brave man agreeing to meet the sort of fans who are prepared to fork out extra cash to engage him. It's already been covered here, but 'Misery' does indeed spring to mind.

Ok serious point, don't like them meet and greet things masel. Mainly cos I could never afford em, Corby wages have gotta be alongside the lowest in the UK.
I've had the pleasure of meeting Hooky and the rest of the band at various gigs/signings/exhibitions over the years, so I've done my time.
Good luck with the forthcoming gigs I'm sure those who take the effort to get to the gigs (and the meet and greet) will really enjoy em

That's totally ridiculous meet & greets will put people off going to gigs. It's a part of the ticketing formula. When you got to a gig, you buy a ticket you can afford, or are comfortable with. There have been different levels of ticket prices for a long time now.

Evidently not, as I stated earlier, it was a deciding factor for me to not bother in this instance. I don't suppose my opinion is commonly held one, but it certainly isn't 'totally ridiculous'.
What I find odd is the excuse that this is totally beyond Hooky's control. I'm pretty certain Hooky could've declined participating in this 'meet & greet ticketing option' if he objected, but I suspect the potential for added profit was attractive.
What do you think Rob would've made of this?

It's not gonna put people off, is it? I just find it bizarre - I've never seen it over here before, so don't agree it's part of any ticketing formula. This must surely just be an Australian thing?
I'm gonna ring up New Order and ask if I can sit on stage with them at the Troxy, if I pay them a little extra cash.

Don't try and claim that this Meet & Greet is a normal or accepted aspect of live performances nowadays, I have never come across the likes of it before and am not the only one, it maybe that they need to do this to help finance the tour but it looks like a very cynical way of extracting more cash from punters and I feel that the whole meet & greet thing would be an uncomfortable experience for Hooky aswell as for the gullible fools who hand out the cash to attend it,for example if you pay $249 he doesn't sign anything but if you pay $300 he signs 5 items? Everybody who turns up regardless of which ticket they buy will expect items to be signed and I would not like to the person who who has the job of telling the punter who has paid 249 bucks and has her/his records,cds etc with her that they are not going to be signed because she has not got the platinum ticket...

I don't really care, but what you are saying is, because there is a meet and great package as part of the different ticket prices (which I don't have any control over) that you wont go to the show?
I'm neither here or there for it. It's not just an Australian thing, a lot of other promoters/etc are doing it around the World, and yes it does cause a division within the fans.

You're right. I've just googled it for UK gigs and the likes of JLS, Rihanna, Westlife and N-Dubz all indeed seem to have/had some sort of 'Meet and Greet' ticket option available.
Not sure 'Joy Division' fit comfortably in with that group but still.. .

What I'm saying is this shameless money-grubbing is a step too far from a former member of a band once known for their principles. He doesn't have to do it, he chooses to, and that is very disappointing to me.
I don't hold you personally responsible, nor do I give a stuff how much you care. However, as Hooky and the Light choose to engage in this sort of discourse, he can make his own excuses, so you need not bother.

Look at the line-up The Light are mixing with there. Can we expect to see them on The X-Factor any time soon?
Having thought about it Im quite surprised this was posted on here at all. Even a casual reader would be able to pick up on the undercurrent of ill-feeling towards some members of New Order, whichever "side" decided to do something like this was always going to get pages of criticism.

The only other band I know of from the UK who offers a "VIP package" for an inflated price is James which considering their well documented social political standing is a tad ironic. I saw them twice and paid for a normal standing ticket each time.
Personally, I wouldn't pay for it. Not my bag. If you happen to be backstage with the band because you've done some work for them then that's a different kettle of fish. I would never pay 150-200 quid for the pleasure though and to say it's the norm these days is probably taking it a bit far. At least not from the bands I like and follow.
If the "new" New Order offered it I wouldn't buy it either.

I doubt anyone would rush to get a VIP package ... but if that's all that's left 15mins after tickets go on sale then who's to say?

Well, if it was me and I had a choice between seeing New Order for 150 quid or not seeing them at all then I'd probably go with the latter. Got to draw the line somewhere. They're not Beyonce or Elton John (thankfully) The touts probably wouldn't buy up the VIP option because it might require submitting personalised details which couldn't be sold on? Imagine paying a tout for a laminate pass with "A. Tout" printed on it instead of your own name? Ouch.
To be fair, the only thing that does attract me to the notion of a "VIP package" is access to the sound check. It was the only thing James offered which piqued my interest. That's a fairly cool thing to watch. As for meeting the band, er what would you talk about? Beyond "I like your records"? I wouldn't want to be Hooky when the real JD obsessives turn up wanting to know what colour of socks Ian wore in the LWTUA video.
Still, each to their own eh.

We had a cracking lock in with Hooky a few years back up in Glasgow after he did a DJ set at Grahame's bar, must have lasted a good couple of hours. Twas a fookin great craic, Hooky had us in tears with some of the stories. Everyone who was there loved it. Unfortunately as we were all a bit worse for wear, we cannae mind half of the stuff we talked about. Definitely something i cherish, I just wouldnae do the meet and greet thing.....mainly cos I'm always skint :D

Me too. After a gig I just want to go home, its bound to be after my bedtime.
Also, it does no good to let musicians start thinking they're something special. Paying for the 'honour' of meeting them? Bound to inflate the ego.
