What's your favourite New Order lyric? Why?
What's the one you hate most? Why?
Mine at the moment are:
Fave: 'One of these days when you sit by yourself You'll realise you can't shaft without someone else'
(nice double meaning - sex/betrayal) - Subculture
Most hated: 'Ra ta ta ta ta ta ta ta, hey'
(pointless - almost boy band crap) - Confusion
(though I do like Confusion as a complete piece)
Oh yeah, my new picture is one of a series that I took of my girlfriend, who has been converted to a New Order fan!

Fave : "I cut my head against a wall". As It Is When It Was. Just for the comedy value.
Worst : "Don't want to own the keys, don't want to wash my car" Turn My Way. Has the potential to also be funny but is sang so sincerely it's just sooooo cringeworthy.

So most of us think that Get Ready has the crappiest lyrics...and someone has got to mention the "beats arithmetic" peerless verse yet.
COME ON!!!! the lyrics to Liar are some of the best Barney's ever spoken. Harsh, biting criticism directed at Tony Wilson....I absolutely love Liar and cannot understand what's so awful about that song......

knowing what we know now about the decline and fall of Factory Records and the Hacienda, how can you not marvel at the honesty and cruelty of these lyrics....In fact, almost all of Republic is very good lyrically and alot more honest than Get Ready (which is a steaming pile of shit, lyrically).
if Hooky had taken his nose out of the devil's dandruff for one minute OR had Hague bound and gagged, Republic would have been as highly regarded as the Smiths' Strangeways....both thought to be the last release.

sorry HW, but that isn't good enough for me. WHY don't you like the lyrics to this gem?
so many choice lines in this one...and not one shite rhyme for the sake of rhyming and no ridiculous metaphors. and the chorus isn't repeated to death like all the new singles.
i need a 5 page explication of this song on my desk by the morning or no lunch break!!!!

Liar is terrific, bitterly terrific...
However, and often overlooked on the lyric front... Technique beholds some of Barneys most astounding verses.
Worst lyrics have to be from Sabotage:

Sounds like a slogan for a douche ad.
The best lyrics are from True Faith.
Favourite lyrics: tie-- 'Every second counts, when I am with you, I think you are a pig, you should be in a zoo'--Every Little Counts (I know it's cheesy and puerile, but it's always made me laugh).
Also, 'Tonight I should have stayed at home, playing with my pleasure zone.'--Perfect Kiss (same reason as above). Barney's not exactly Bob Dylan, and sometimes I cringe at what he comes up with for the rhymes! Hey, it's all about the music, man!
Least favourite...I'd have to agree with 'rock the shack, etc'. Sounds more like a B-52s song, that one.
