It has indeed taken a slightly surreal turn. I don't think we have to look for any fanciful explanations for why two guys who knew each other since school, have fallen out. It happens all the time. Hell, I know of two families where sister will not talk to sister, or brother to brother, besides other divisions between half siblings you might almost expect.

Cool. No danger of that here anyways… (of being forgotten) but, wow, quite a change there from Barney. Is this the guy who gave the impression he dreaded playing live? Like the record was how it was supposed to sound, or something… no more 45 minutes shows then? That's good to know.

Anyway, even if actual reconciliation is not possible, I do hope this gets resolved somehow so Lost Sirens can see the light of day. Gah!

The impression he possibly meant to give was that he preferred working in the studio than gigging.

i remember bernard said he would, or could try anything once . no big deal there. he supported gays in many kind hearted ways in the 80's. hooky and the story of his hand in the rear of pott's pants, suggests very little, of importance . in the u.s.a. stories are farther removed and likely less known. that is why i asked. peter may just be very jealous of the power and stature bernard has . i do believe the economics were always fair ,all getting an equal share . peter is hurt about something.

back then the touring, drugs, alcohol, and sex could have killed bernard. now he is fine . his wife and kids have him well grounded. he is nearly fit, looks healthy , and is as handsome as dave gilmour was at 56. dave is 66 in march

He said the same thing in the interview booklet for Retro back in 2002. I think around 1998 and again at the release of Get Ready he was having fun again. The early WFTSC shows were a tad rusty based on youtube offerings, and not in the inspiring shambolic fashion of the 80s. But I thought Glasgow 2006 was a great DVD and that they played very well.

well bernard didnt slag hookys playing so obviously not everyone does after meltdown, didnt hear mick jones or joe strummer etc at it either and i could name several others.

musicians know that you dont criticise someones playing in public because it doesnt matter how good you are or how impressive your virtuosity is so long as your giving it a go.

Yeah, out of everything Hooky has said, the attack on Gillian's artistry is really what has got me the most bummed out about him. You just don't do that, especially to another artist you have worked besides for years.

I can't help it, and I know it is not really rational, but I go back and listen to Revenge or Monaco, and even his basslines in New Order and Joy Division in a slightly different way now. Not good.

From the very start of this Bernards comments on the matter (or lack of, a dignified silence speaks volumes) have always left Hooky looking a bit silly and angry-shouty.

This is a further case of it.

As amusing and heartfelt as the Hooky comments always are its always from a man on the backfoot, blindly lashing out.

Grow up children you are 50 plus and behaving like bitter teenagers. Hooky did want to be in the band,he did want to tour (the other's didn't) and make records. If Rob was around he would have sorted all this crap out. Another annoying thing is that Barney and imposter are now doing seminal bass laden tunes he refused to do (586 etc) live when Hooky was in the band.

if hooky did want all those things and is the victim in all of this then why didnt he either speak up to the rest of the band whilst a member of the band or better yet do what mani does when primal scream arent working play with other groups until the rest of the band want to tour or make a record.

Can't say I've felt that way when hearing Hooky's basslines, even after reading the most vitriolic Hooky comments.

But, I have noticed that when watching/listening to live stuff from the mid 80s that the sloppiness of Bernard's pitch often corresponds to how loud Hooky's bass was. Passive aggressive relationship? I know Bernard could shoot the glare to Gillian and even Steve, but I rarely see in live videos him look at all at Hooky. And rather oddly, I see Hooky often gaze at Bernard...

Not trying to over analyze, but there's enough documentation to suggest there was the occasional power struggle onstage.
