Threre's probably quite a few unreleased demos knocking around, probably of dodgy quality, but would certainly be interesting to hear them - big missed opportunity with the boxed "remasters" a few years ago.

There's a reason lots of the early recordings haven't come out : some of them are crap.

"At A Later Date" has never been on any official reissue, yet is sometimes the first song PH+The Light play.

No, there aren't. Everything has been accounted for.

I'm sure there are quite a few demos that exist on tape that we've never got hold of. Let's face it, back in 1979 they were recording almost every rehearsal session, they're not going to have turned their back on that policy while jamming and writing new material.

While there may not be lots of songs per se that failed to make the cut, there will no doubt be recordings in existence (albeit unavailable) of demo versions of most if not all New Order material.

I would deny personae to say that "At A Later Date" is not a killer record.

Despite the rest of and other(s) ongoing affairs.

Jamming and/or multiple rehearsal takes of established songs are not the same as unheard songs, however. They were only a functioning band for a little under 3 years. In that span they put out 2 albums and a number of stand-alone singles and compilation tracks. Even the earliest Warsaw tracks have been available for ages, and the rehearsal tape that Pictures In My Mind was sourced from has been known to private collectors for several years. If there was anything else that qualified as an unheard song, it would have surfaced by now.

I was thinking more about New Order and jam sessions. That said, there would have been some form of recorded version of Reaction, Tension and Lost, even if just live in rehearsal. Crap though they were, they weren't being made up on the spot so the band must have had some recorded version to listen to and use as standpoint for rehearsal.

What other songs are on that rehearsal tape? Pictures In My Mind sounds great so will be nice when others get to hear the rest of it (presuming it's still in private hands). Has the approximate date of the rehearsal been determined?

Maybe so, but it is often fascinating to hear works in progress no matter the sound quality. I can't think of many bands that even have rehearsal material out there, and considering the brevity of the JD catalog, any chance to explore their music in greater depth seems worthwhile to me...
