Well, Cambo's frothing away on Facebook as we speak (nobody cares).

Same old shit.

Yawnarama.

Hooky : I WAS FUCKING DONE MATE! I HATE 'EM! New Order : He Left.

Put it this way : when my brother put a comment about a duff note on "Regret" at the Troxy on Facebook, Hooky 'liked' it. So either

a) Hooky on FB is an imposter or b) they've taken a Hooky recording of where he got the notes wrong and used it for Tom to mime on that one gig alone or c) Hooky's full of shit / Tom's playing live.

I am laughing out loud in my office, Tom clearly plays live bass, it's very evident. When they did Round and Round Tom would play the high lead bass parts and then play along to the low programmed bass during the verses.

He is actually pretty good at playing traditional low end rhythm bass and emulating Hoooky's high bass parts. Does it confuse Hooky that he can do this.

Peter Hook, I love you, I do. You are an innovative bass player who created his own style, a good vocalist (hey I love the first Revenge record, Hooky sounds so sleazy) and a cool guy but you have got to stop saying this stupid shit, and stop trashing Gillian too. Please.

I hope it goes to court and the twat loses every penny he's made from fake dj-ing, his hacienda guitars and his tribute band

Of the three NO gigs I've been to over the past six months and having repeatedly listened to the official Troxy release it's clear that Chapman does not mime. Would be the first to say otherwise and I'm sure lots of other fans who were also there on those evenings would have spotted any such falseness. NO's statement for this sole R&R segment which has caused such an outrage is reasonable by anyone's standards.

I wish both Hooky and New Order would take a step back to see how these interviews are turning some in the fanbase in to partisan reactionaries. Deep down, we are all fans of the music first and foremost. If there is a legal case to be answered then let it be answered behind closed doors without this relentless blood letting in the press.

It's gone way past undignified.

Shows how desperate the Hook camp are for the chance to get a dig in that they take notice of Cambo! :evil4:

As Hooky well knows, New Order have been using prerecorded parts for years, on all instruments. Including his bass. Be interesting to hear why he thinks they shouldn't do that now. He will of course be aware that Stuart Price has re-done tracks such as Round and Round, technology having changed somewhat since the Technique era, and as such the bass will not be his original recordings.....

He's clearly not playing to a recording of Hooky, as it doesn't sound like he's using a clone theory, but he's not playing the lead bass part, as the track in question does not have a lower bass guitar part, but a bass synth part there's no need for this, I've no problem with tracks where there are more than one bass guitar part having backing, but when there's one lead bass part that is what should be played.

As I stated on FB, the only reason I get a bit wound up about it is because I love playing those bass lines myslef, and to see Tom not playing the lead bass is just sad, for me (obviously not for everyone) the lead bass has always been the distinctive sound of new order, no other band mixed electronics with lead bass.

That sounds like you're auditioning for the part of Tom's replacement.

How anyone can think Tom's miming is beyond me. Just listening to Tom's setup, you can tell it isn't the same gear, not the same bass, not the same pedals and chorus delay. And the way he plays is not the same as Hooky.

If it goes to court, it will cost Hooky dear, I imagine.

very very sad.

i liked how through the 80's and 90's.

you barely read or saw anything about the band. unless it was about new music, a project, albums, videos, etc.

nowadays, a day doesn't go by, where you read comments, interviews, and articles either griping, complaining, or attacking each other.

almost makes you not want to care.

The band refute it by saying "there is a low bass part, a high bass part and Tom sings backing vocals". They don't say it's a low bass guitar part. But that's a cop-out and I agree that Chappy should concentrate on the actual guitar bits, even if it means no backing vocals.

if you look at the video, you hear a high bass line in the chorus, his hands aren't in the position for that part, on the record there is no low bass guitar part it's bass synth, which is sequenced so there is no need for him to play it on his bass rather than the lead and to do bv's, they've had pre recorded backing bv's for years, i'd rather that than pre recorded lead bass.

I can't understand the court action at all, so long as they get the royalties that were previously agreed for previous recordings they should just go there separate ways and stop the fighting.

Yet more bitterness, he's effectively turned into Roger Waters post his departure from Pink Floyd.

At least if it does go to court possibly the whole thing can be laid to rest. Although I assume the other three would win as they are the majority of the original lineup - unless of course something was drawn up.

I don't want to take sides in this thing, at the end of the day I'm a fan of all the members of JD/NO. I enjoyed Bad Lieutenant, I'm enjoying the Light. Alas it seems I won't be able to see the current incarnation any time soon but from what I've seen/heard they're putting on great shows.

Yeah, although he regained certain things ("The Wall" album and the iconic pig if I remember correctly).

Hence why I'm pretty sure Hook would lose any action but again it depends if anything was drawn up. I remember that Ray Manzarek and Robbie Krieger of the Doors lost their court case when they went out as Doors Of The 21st Century. They then changed to "Riders On The Storm" and now just "Manzarek/Krieger". But then I think they had Jim Morrison's estate as well as John Densmore against them.

wow. one song, and they are still just figuring it out, after many years of not playing it - it is effectively a work in progress as they refigure out all the parts.

but Jed wants it to be perfect, and from ONE youtube video, has condemned the band and the new bassist - making it his personal life vendetta to inform the world of this terrible incident.

"My lord, the new bassist is playing along to one bassline, and a sequencer is playing another sampled bassline at the same time!!!!!!!"

better go run and tell Hooky. oh, wait, already happened.

not quite, we obviously have different opinions of what's important in a band. but I never said I wanted perfection, I would prefer to hear them fuck up while playing it properly, and I don't think there's any need to get personal. grow up.

Who knows Jed, if it really does go to court, maybe you'll be called as a star witness.

Hooky's Intellectual Property Lawyer: "When did you first realise upon viewing the YouTube video that the Round & Round bassline was not all it appeared to be, Mr Stephens?"

Jed: "Er".

Judge: "The witness will answer the question."

Tom Chapman (in the dock): Objection! My bass was plugged in m'lud!

so are you saying you can't see it? also I never said his bass wasn't plugged in, I said he was playing a low bass part, keep up.

The intelectual property case is complete bollocks though, it's clearly not a recording of hooky, as I said earlier.

Yep I can see what you spotted Jed but to me it's a storm in a teacup. To be fair to you, you didn't come on here frothing at the mouth about it, Cambo did that and here we are a few days later with a hysterical article claiming that Chapman suddenly mimes all the time which is patently untrue.

Takes some skill to spot what you spotted musically so I'm not knocking you saying "Oh I noticed this", it was what Cambo did to take it to the next level that irritated the fuck out of me. He stopped short of calling everyone who had ever gone to see New Order post-Hooky desperate and victims of being duped.

Tom Chapman is miming along to my bass on tape.

Even if what Jed and Steve have said is true, how can Hooky think Tom is miming to a recording of Hooky's bass?!

, but what I'm rallying against is the business dealings they've done to secure the New Order trademark, which is oppression of a minority, which is illegal.

Oppression is quite a strong word, isn't it? So it's OK for him to buy the trademark to the Hacienda, but not the other three original members (+Phil and Tom) to use the New Order name?

Minus this one interpretation of a very automated dance track they've not performed in almost 20 years, Chapman generally does a pretty reasonable job of Hook's basslines.

Just as Paul Kehoe generally does a good job of Stephen's drums, Nat Wason of Bernard's guitar and Andy Poole of Bernard's keyboards so to argue New Order "sound naff" without Hook is inviting comparisons that The Light "sound naff" without Sumner or Morris doing their respective Joy Division roles I.e. it's pointlessly partisan and intimates one member of the band is bigger than the whole which we all know is bollocks.

Some old musicians get swallowed-up by drugs and booze. They turn into sad wrecks who routinely embarrass themselves with their outbursts, and make their fans cringe and pity them.

Hooky is just hooked on his own anger, bitterness and wretched inability to see the friends he dumped go on with their lives. I'm sure he expected them to scurry-away and knock-about in a few side projects that got a few appreciative nods, but nothing substantial.

He thought he was New Order. That they couldn't possibly continue to mean anything to anyone after he left.

Unfortunately for Hooky, Bernard, Gillian and Stephen have proven one thing to be true: Living well is the best Revenge.

Jesus. Fucking. Christ. :(

The "oppressed minority" was always a minority regardless of whether Gillian came back into the fold. And precisely because he's a minority, he could not have expected to "split" the band unilaterally. Not without getting some blowback anyway.

This is all so bloody sad.

This cheered me up though:

I think that Hooky is talking about oppression and minority he is using those terms in the context of company law.

In the case of Scottish Cooperative Wholesale V Meyer (1959) oppression was defined as conduct which is "burdensome, harsh or wrong".

In Irish company law which is largely based on UK company law a company may be wound up if the court is of the opinion that would be "just and equitable" to do so ie. for oppression or disregard of the interests of a member.

As a matter of interest, if that lad was miming along to his bass parts, what the fucks it got to do with him anyway?

Its a bit like moaning because your ex has a new fella and she lets him put his shoes on the sofa.

Of course Hook recognizes that Chapman is playing along the lower synth bass parts live, even I can hear this. And the upper bass part sounds completely different in effects etc. than the original ones, so they must have taped it anew, they sound a bit weak and hurried in my opinion. Typical case of throwing shit on the wall with hoping some of it will stay. Some people will now believe that New Order are miming along Hook’s music, regardless of what is true or not. I also agree with the previous poster who said Hooky can’t stay the thought that New Order are able to make it without him. He really must have believed that he IS the band.

Waters famously lost his court action.

And in one important way, the situation is almost the opposite. Waters wrote – and was accredited for – nearly all of the final three Floyd albums. And he still lost. Hooky has suggested that he has felt squeezed out of the songwriting on albums like Republic and WFTSC. Even if the songs are always credited to "New Order". But his instrumental skills – like those of Gilmour - remained a crucial ingredient in the recordings.

He's certainly NOT playing along to a recording of Hooky, it's exactly as I described it originally.....he only halfs knows the song and there is a synth doubling the high bass part.

As for some of the things said about me on here.........guys I dragged myself to a few gigs, even then they nearly killed me (must say, it was worth it though, especially Apollo and Wolves where I was in decent enough condition to hang out with some of you eejits beforehand....even if I DID scurry off to my bed before the PA had cooled down).

It's a struggle for me to go and visit friends who live a mile away at the minute...never mind go rioting with you lot. And even if I was in better personal and financial health, I honestly don't know if I WANT to see Bad Loot+Gillian. Maybe I am judging on recordings, but then I'm judging recordings against recordings so all is fair.

As for "living in his bedroom"....I don't, funny enough, I live in my living room. And I suggest you try it some time and then see how you like being mocked for it.

Now go, enjoy the version of the band if you like, I'm all for it, knock yourselves out.....hell even I'M enjoying the newly revitalised Bernard. I don't fancy it myself, but wish the rest of you nothing but great times doing your thing.

I should point out that I don't agree with the comments Hooky has made about taking the band to court, I think they should just split, he can do his stuff, they can do their stuff, no need for all the public arguments. Waters famously lost his court action.

Seem to recall Tony Wilson referencing Pink Floyd fairly early in New Order's career. Something along the lines of "Mark my words, New Order will become like the Pink Floyd" (I distinctly remember him throwing the "the" in there). It was about how Floyd lost their original singer but went on to greater success, something very uncommon in music.

It takes on a whole new meaning now.

It was Jon Savage not Tony.

It was Savage quoting Tony or Rob. And the reference to Pink Floyd would be even more sly today if Bernard would leave and the rest would continue as New Order (with Hooky taking over vocals) :)

Nah, Jon Savage quoted what Wilson had said. I seem to remember Savage describing "being taken out in Wilson's poxy Vauxhall Cortina" or something to that effect before he quoted the words.

AHW was also sadly correct if the upcoming court case will be anything to go by.

When did Tony say it, any idea?

No idea, it was spoken in the documentary as something Wilson said to Savage specifically and so not on film. Who knows in that regard. Presumably in the early 80s.

Might have been Paul Morley quoting Tony...

Here's the clip in question and it was actually his poxy Peugeot estate

Fast forward to 4:30.

But yeah, it was definitely Savage quoting Wilson saying they'd end up like Floyd.

Forgotten how posh Savage is :smoking:

Of course Tom plays live.

Now THIS is interesting.

On Wednesday they changed how they play it, and Tom now *IS* playing Hooky's basslines !

The second Round and round sounds much better. I hope they keep this.

On the New Order dvd with 60mph, I seem to remember some bass playing in the song, that Hooky's not doing. So he did it as well. Nic even pointed it out in a post back in the day.

You see! These guys were faking it even back then.

It's even been alleged that some members wore wigs as early as the TBTHOG video. :nonono:

Yes, noted in another thread. His preferred entourage or just winding us up?
