New Order Live or Studio

Personally I aint got all the albums, but have circa 400 bootlegs. For me it has always been about the live offerings (back in the day, not knowing what was coming next, new tracks debuted, no encores, Barney's pernod consumption ) Happy days

Another round of I'm bored, the suns shining and it's Friday afternoon !

Actually, a very good question, always remember the Sunderland to London tour, the buzz of chasing about the country not knowing what the set would be, if and when there would be an encore, getting into a couple of sound checks is something I look back on with very fond memories.

Hence the reason for not doing all the April/May shows as general opinion is they will be very much as done last October and down under, with maybe the odd reworking of another single. Oh, is the world tour called "the singles tour"

I even remember telephoning the factory office on a regular basis trying to find out what gigs were in the pipeline, I think her name was Paula ?

I only got into NO end of 80's and only seen them live twice. Both times good (2001 and 2005). But from the many bootlegs I have they could make the greatest record sound really awful.

so its studios for me. I feel its where Barney is at his best.

Remember remember "blue in heaven" quite a good album but sh1t time keeping. That was one weird trip.

I love seeing and hearing new order live, which is why I miss Hooky being in the band so much, he was a major part of the live experience, the banter from Barney & him was great too.

Always the live experience for me. You never knew what you were going to get. As already said in this thread, the anticipation when the melodica was picked up, or a change of bass, and the knowledge that Confusion was next when Barney got hold of the bass. Different sets every night, would they or won't they play an encore, new unfinished songs, not knowing what the new songs were called and updating the tape case every time someone told you differently, hunting down the tapes, the excitement when one-off gigs were announced, the buzz when the parcel arrived with a few D90s containing magic. Then they wrote True Faith and it all changed forever.

albums and studio for me...

only saw them live twice in the US. had a few poor quality bootlegs in the past.

heard a lot better quality over the years.. and all of the official ones on video/vhs/laserdisc and dvd.

yes, the earlier live shows were much more interesting from the past, than they are now..

but it still doesn't change my preference.

the problem with live is that it only happens from time to time..

and if you're unlucky to live in a place that they never come to, or tour very often (all the times that they broke up)... all you will have is bootlegs or prerecorded stuff which isn't quite the same..

the studio stuff has a lot more depth, and remixes, etc.. yes there are different versions live too, but again, it's a lot more trouble, expense, etc. to see them live for most people..

if you were lucky this year to live in a place they were visitting, that's good for you...

studio stuff will ALWAYS be around, anytime you have the way to listen to it, anywhere you want.

how about a list of songs that didn't work in the studio but were good live... and vice versa. "Face Up" is mentioned in another thread to have worked live much better.

they're the best band in the world but they've never done an album without shit songs in my opinion
