I'm down under right now, doing some news stories on Sydney for work. I'm here until Nov 11 and was wondering if there is anything that a life long New Order fan should check out. I'm staying @ the Holiday Inn @ Kings Cross. I noticed that a record store across the street has a giant poster for the Back To Mine album.

Thanks in Advance,

Allan

Bayswater Brasserie on Bayswater Road, Kings X for the meal of your life.

Mr. Goodbar on Oxford Street on a Wednesday Night for some wicked turntablist action.

The terrace bar at Home on Darling Harbour for perhaps the prettiest setting in the world for getting pished.

I'm sure some of the locals who frequent this board will be able to give you a hundred more suggestions. Best city in the world!

records & CDs wise.... check out RED EYE record store ( not too far from corner of KING ST. & GEORGE ST., SYDNEY CBD, next to the pub ) - has lots of rarities & big Australian music collection...

also, check out UTOPIA record store ( under the VILLAGE/GREATER UNION/HOYTS cinema on George St., CBD ) - has lotsa rock memoriblia on display & large HEAVY/HARD ROCK music on shelf...

For el-cheapo Cds, go to the $10 CD shop on Pitt Street opposite the HILTON HOTEL...all Cds are $10, most are crap retro or techno compilation, but you can find the entire The Smiths catalouge, most of REM remastered stuffs, even NO republic, technique & JD Closer there...plus PIXIES, SAINT ETIENNE, etc...it's all depends on your timing....so check out it everyday...

If you want addresses, just give me a yell...on 0413 666 ( number of the beast..haahaa ) 922...thats my mobile...

enjoy Sydney...

My first week in Sydney is almost done. I just got back from the indie night @ the Kings Cross Hotel. What Night of fantastic music. Heard 2 New Order Songs, and the rest was a great britpop feel.

I would love to know if anyone on the site goes there as i will be there again next week. I'm a little shy so i didn't really talk to anyone.

Well I've been here for a week now and I must say this is the greatest city in the world. Having lived in Glasgow and Toronto, this place is light years ahead. I bounced around a few clubs the other night and heard Blue Monday at least four times, and different versions too. I'll be hitting the Kings X Hotel again on Thursday night for their Indie night if any of you Sydney locals would like to meet up and trade New Order stories.

Picked up the 60mph DVD while i was here. At least i can watch it on my computer.

Now when I said Sydney was the best city in the world I obviously meant straight after Glasgow. That goes without saying! Certainly aint "light years ahead" MR Can Can. The Kings X Hotel?!!! Backpacker hell!!!

Where abouts in sunny Glasvegas were you living?

My work has put me up in the holiday in potts point next to the kings x hotel. I will admit the X is a backpacker hell, but i am fortunate not be stuck in any of those fine places. I was at the indie night last week and the music was quite good, and i got the feeling it was full of locals anyway.

As for glasgow i spent my youth in the wonderfull Renfrew. It's so strange to go back and see a giant shopping centre next to my old house. Before that my parents were both Greenock born and bred. You may now insert Greenock jokes here ...

I only know about the infamous "Greenock Shower".

This basically involves wearing the same clothes and underwear for days on end but dousing yourself every morning in half a can of Lynx anti-perspirant.

I was going out with a girl who was a lawyer in Greenock though. She had a few tales to tell! Renfrew's nice, used to play football there a lot. When were you last "home"?

That's known as a Kiwi shower in these parts, Fergie.

LOL! I knew there'd probably be regional variations. Sorry, global variations!

PS Having taken a bit of stick for my last photie I've included a new one of me holding what I believe to be the best thing about Australia. The "hot-pie-in-a-bag". Thinking of exporting this faboulous idea to the UK.

I'm back every couple of years. Was just there in July for a wedding in sunny Erskine. We actually lucked out this year with not much rain. Thinking about going back to work for a year.
