Music Complete box set release

So according to the NO store the release date is 6/11/15. A long wait

5 weeks & 2 days.

It would be nice if they'd release a few songs in the meantime to help pass the time. I reckon 11 should just about do it. And maybe a few remixes.

It also contains a download code. Is the download of the extended versions? I want the extended versions but don't have a turntable anymore.

Anyone who purchases the box set gets a download of the standard album, in both mp3 format and lossless FLAC, via an email link.

The download code included in the box is for the extended versions.

The download was just the album, not the extended mixes.People who had pre ordered the box set were emailed the MP3 and HD download links for just the album last Friday on album release day (though it wasn't an entirely smooth operation, lots of people reported problems etc).There may or may not a download code of the extended mixes inside the box set upon receiving it- the details on NewOrder Now store only says that the extended mixes will be over 6 pieces of vinyl.No mention of a digital versions download link.

I checked with Mute a while back who confirmed that the extended mixes would be available via a download code included in the box. I think I mentioned it in one of the album threads back then.

It would be crazy if the extended versions were only available with, or on the vinyl. I find it hard to believe that they won’t be issued in the other formats even if sometime after the vinyl. (I hope not too long after though)

Otherwise you would have to buy the vinyl which is useless without a turntable, or if you find vinyl is a hassle, to get the code. I’m trying to downsize.

Well, i'd be very surprised if there isn't torrents or whatever available of them with in an hour or two or even sooner of folks receiving the box set.They'll be up on Soulseek in no time. I might give the discs one spin but will probably just listen to the digital versions.I've gone off vinyl a bit lately.I never seem to be able to get my stylus completely clear of fluff despite using the special cleaning fluid and the brush.Same goes for the vinyl discs; i use the special cleaning fluid and cloth to clean the disc before play but halfway through one side of an album the sound becomes dreadful again as dust and fluff just inevitably still magically appear from somewhere. And you have to be so careful taking discs out of the sleeve and handling them.Having said all that i am waiting on delivery of Get Ready and Republic on vinyl!

A sheep on the stylus, we used to call it. The annoyance of greasy fingerprints and the first little scratch. Trying not to move too fast in case the needle jumps, having to get up at the same point in the song where it sticks every time to nudge it on etc.

I lent my LP of “Hard Days Night” to someone who stored it for a while on top of a radiator. Aargh!

Using the purchase as an excuse to purchase a turn table. Planning to take the vinyl to me mate's house where he will play them and record it on disc for me. But with the advent of the download I may skip visiting him...then again he has a lot of homebrew.

Not wanting to piss on anyone's chips here, but... In the long track-by-track Radio X interview with Bernard (get the podcast on itunes as per the Jo Wiley/Radio 2 thread), he says "Only some of the tracks will be extended". I thought it might be worth a mention.

...actually he may be saying that only some of the tracks sound better in extended format. Listen from 1.03 to 1.05 on the itunes podcast.

Yeah i picked up on that too.But then he did seem slightly clueless about the box set, like i think he said he had no idea when it was coming out.

Well the summary of the items in the store states the following:

"Extended versions of all 11 brand new tracks on 6 pieces of vinyl".

If this isn't the case I think we'll have grounds for a discount or refund.

I'm sure it will be fine.

It was a joke… saying that some of the shorter versions were better, so go buy the normal album now… don't wait for the extended versions.

Although, I wouldn't bet against the extended versions hitting a (double) cd now, after hearing that interview… but they'd have to wait 'till the box sets are in people's hands.

I just popped over to the New Order Store and it now says the box will be released 11/20/15....at this rate I'm wondering if it'll be out before their next best of release ( not counting the Singles reissue of course ).

its not that hard to transfer vinyl. and its not that complicated either with some basic equipment.

the boxset is a bonus. if they want to them on digital or cd, they would say so.

theres a lot of vinyl only mixes for new order (rember the 12x12 set)

anyways, i can wait. the boxset is definitely worth it, even as an art piece.

I’ve ordered the boxset and I’m feeling a bit baffled by this statement that there will be extended versions of all 11 tracks over 6 12” singles

1. That’s 12 sides of vinyl - so what will be on the 12th side?
2. Hard to see how some of these will be extended as virtually every song on the standard release already feels like an extended version.

I won’t be complaining if they are all longer versions, but my main gripe with the standard album is that it’s too long!

I would bet on the black vinyl being Singularity!

I reckon a really long intro on an extended Superheated would be really cool.Kind of in the vein of Thieves Like Us, a long 3 minute intro before Bernard starts singing.

Hope the box set is more 'arty' than the sparse (sorry, minimalist) '12 page booklet'.

I love the idea of extended mixes generally, when done well, and I wish they'd put out "in-house" 12" mixes of singles on the vinyl single b-sides rather than the commissioned rubbish. But listening to Music Complete, which I'm really loving, I can't really see how the can extend some of the tracks effectively. "Tutti Frutti" for example I really like, but seems to be timed perfectly. By just before the last chorus I'm convinced the song should end and they throw the last one out. But I guess we'll just see what happens :)

It is complicated, and time consuming, and expensive in equipment terms (assuming you don't already have it), if you want to do it *well*. Assuming the label haven't cocked it up, a download code is a MUCH better way to get a digital copy of the mixes, and you'll get something in higher fidelity than the vinyl pressing to boot. Heck I wish they put download codes in CD cases, even ripping CDs is a pain in the arse imho, and can go wrong, and can give you the wrong results without you knowing. (Much amusement at the recent complaining about CDs with pre-emphasis)

Yes the booklet felt like a cheap pile of photocopies.

Just received an email which states:

Yeah i got that email.Interesting.... Though what their idea of a couple of weeks is..... the email says that the album was released last week.I make it two weeks ago by my calendar

and connect up to your computer.

these are new records, so you don't have to worry about noise, rumble, crackle, etc.

and if there is some, the basic audio software (audicity), or soundforge will do the job.

i've been doing this for several years now (see the recycle 2 project), or for many other groups with much poorer sources, and the results have been very good.

If you've managed to get good results with equipment like that, my congratulations to you, because I haven't. In the last year I digitised roughly 100 records, mostly old classical. I started the project with a Numark PT-01 which is a slightly more upmarket version of the Ion turntable pictured there, but the audio quality was too poor for my ears. The records I was digitising were old, scratchy and dusty, but my reference was a second pressing Blue Monday, and I did a bunch of my own stuff at the same time: the three "Jewel" 7" releases by the Cranes, and a couple of brand new LPs; in all cases I was not happy with the audio that the USB turntable could produce. It was a good enough audio interface, however, and it has a line-in, so I ended up using it with my old Dual turntable, Autofon stylus running through an old Rotel combined amp, then line out to the PT-01, then USB to the laptop + audacity for post-processing. That did the job, but the post-processing is still time consuming (especially with 100 records! At least with classical stuff, there are not very many track splits to manage) and requires some skill.

Honestly, faced with doing 11 sides of vinyl for a 2015 album that way, versus a download that might even be 2496 but even if it isn't will be higher fidelity than the vinyl source, and is literally a click of a button away, I just don't see the point.

I haven't checked out the Recycle 2 project yet, but I must give it a look - thanks. That reminds me, I need to fill some holes in my Recycle #1 collection...
