Strange places you have slept after NO gigs

Just been reading some of the gig reviews from '86 and '87 on the World In Motion site which bought back some memories.

As seemed customary with the Order coming on so late in those days sleeping out at train stations etc after gigs seemed to be quite a frequent affair.

So far I have racked up Paddington station (twice), once in a Guards Cafe and once under cardboard boxes, Didcot Parkway (on the way back from Paddington), inside Cologne train station after the Dusseldorf gig, Manchester Piccadilly on a bench, Manchester Bus Station after Gmex'88, in a service station car park just outside Glasgow after the SECC gig in '89. The last time was in the film tent after Reading Festival '93.

Now that I've hit my mid 30's I've found that a bed & breakfast or a nice hotel is more in touch with my tastes.

You can also include any dodgy women you may have got lucky with after gigs.;)

Another station - Reading '89. After moshing through the House of Love, Sugarcubes and New Order, me and two mates were allowed by the OB to sleep on the floor of the new (at the time) Reading Station to await the next train to Brum at 6.30 in the morning. Still at least we got back in time to see the Villa on the Saturday afternoon, I think they won for once too!

Margate seafront 84 takes some beating - the Winter Gardens is built on the cliff there, and there's some nice cosy holes beneath the venue.

Can't say I miss the train stations and all that though - hotels are definitely the answer !

I'm much too young (pun intended) to have experienced any of this. The closest I've come is hooking up with a few dodgy women after a night of listening to Reading 98, Paradiso & Polytechnic of Central London (from Taboo #7), and the BBC live recordings. Doesn't quite have the same appeal does it?

I wonder whether that old Guards Cafe at Paddington is still there. It was closed to the public but we met 2 lads from Blackpool who were down in London looking for work and they showed us where it was. (I was living in Warwickshire at the time in case anyone was wondering why on earth I slept out at Paddington when I live in London!)

LIV's place after THE MOVE CONCERT,MANCHESTER with MAJOR,DON,HANK,SHUGZV,BALDRICK,ANNIE and PAUL.Very surreal as i slept in a plantpot.:DFantastic time but i always made sure i had a proper place to sleep or transport back. Must admit that the cliffs would have been TREMENDOUS FUN as i have slept at BLACKPOOL in a rough place but not very scenic.

hmmm...guess I've been lucky...I'd reckon the hotel I stayed at after the finsbury gig was the strangest place I've stayed after a gig...the only time I've slept in a bed made for one after a gig...although it could have been MUCH worse if not for the generosity of the NOOLers...

have I ever told you kids how much I appreciated your kindness???

and if you don't know what I'm talking about, it ain't aimed to you...not to sound shitty or anything...maybe I should go to bed now...

In a hotel room in Toronto with 3 other guys is the sacrifice I had to do over this one :D

Fortunatly, since I was the driver, I had the hide-a-bed alone ;)

I don't think Sebastien recovered fully from that night though...

I'm sure you've all heard this one before....

The first ever time i saw NO was in Barry Nobles Roxy in Steel City, as it was a nightclub NO didn't come stage until about 12.30am (i'd got the train from Leeds to Sheff - about 30 miles apart, and the last one back left at 11.00pm !!!)I ended up kipping in the passportphoto booth on the platform until 5.00am when the coach turned up and took me back to leeds

You listening Benny :D

Well, the one time in Oakland it was at my friends' brothers house in San Jose, they seemed to think I wanted to rob them blind when all I wanted was to crash on the living room floor. Damn yuppie scum.

Liv's floor?? what luxury. The Hotel I stayed in after Brixton that was furnished about the same time as Lou Beale's or Reg Cox's places in Albert Square has to go down as the worst. Even worse than sleeping in the back of a car, which was what we did after Reading '93. Quite comfortable as it goes. Took along a blow up air bed, sleeping bags and folded down the back seats of my Mark 2 Astra. Washing facilities would have been a bonus but so would they at that Hotel.

Last summers Gorge Ampitheatre, Seattle show had 6 of us, including Mr Jarvis, sleeping in our hired people carrier in a field. To say it was humming in the morning would be an understatement. I think I spent half the night outside the car, trying to sleep on the grass...at least it was warm.

Al, you can talk about Hurricane....

On the night sleeper back from Liverpool after Warrington Spectrum Arena. It was a Liverpool derby that day, Everton won (that shows how long ago it was) and there were drunken Everton fans making a racket all the way back. And it was so cold there were were icicles on the side of the train
