by the way, i think the "International" sleeve works very well! when you got the whole CD in your hand it looks pretty decent with the rest kept in white.

In the two cd set, both CDs are white. you have to look very closely to find out which one is CD1 and which one is CD2. Mind you, it is not a problem since none will probably end up being played in your CD player.

Well Marco, I've got it and still think it's shitty. The good news is it's not Saville's fault, but rather of a certain Victoria Dawson (or whatever...), as the booklet says "cover illustration Victoria Dawson", so SET YOUR LASERS ON HER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

On the other hand, maybe she's Saville's corrent missus...

Oh, and the "International" logo in the booklet's last page (and on the CD surface) is even worse!

Well I played CD1 several times already! Mind you, as a Greatest Hits colection it ain't that bad. Better than the "(?) The best of", at least...

There is no further sleeve for "International". It's only the picture you already know, which is also on the front page. The rest is just white, white and white...and song titles.

read recently (not sure if on here or in one of the many interviews)that the leaf has personal significance to saville - he had just coe out of a relationship & was sat in his car feeling sad when a leaf fell from a tree & slowly descended onto the car bonnet, that isnt the leaf he used - he got one from hyde park but it inspired the sleeve - which is a personal favoourite of mine.

One of my favourite songs with the worst sleeve ever.

Surely the old orange and brown BBC peel sessions must have the most rancid looking record sleeve ever designed. (Although a lot of bands had that one inflicted on them.) Stuck out like a sore thumb amongst an otherwise beautifully designed back catalogue.

An intriguing spots Nicky Posts. Movement is literally steeped in artistic history. It has design roots from Russian constructivism (it gets very deep) which Saville married with his own contemporary typographic methods of the day. More relevant in light of the release of its closest cousing; Getting Things Ready.

I am unhappy to hear that Marco does not like Brotherhood - surely one of his finest moments.

I don't like State of the Nation Sleeve at all. And though the BLT is made by the same concept, it looks lot's nicer in my eyes.

How about shellshock 7". It's just plain white 'shellshock' written on it. It looks more like the inner sleeve to me.

I love the Retro sleeve; if there were a promotional poster or something of the sort, I'd love to have it. A big-ass print would look so very good in my studio.

I don't have a clear enough scan of the cover...who is reflected in the ball? The photographer, or someone else? That nude guy on eBay?

Personally, it looks like a combo of them both. Beat the Red Wedge vs. Futura with the odd shape thrown in.

My original point was that Mole Hunt, whilst looking innocuous (as if it was randomly thrown together like the movie Godzilla), did in actual fact have its style based on historical content. Which must have added a walk to the library for Saville instead of a mail order stock book.

That was a flippant remark, Savsy has the ability to eek out quality, which in itself is an amazing capacity.

Although I am interested in the subject, it isn't the most exciting biscuit in the barrel.

i've never really liked the movement sleeve to be honest. i really don't understand the concept of it at all.

i quite like the covers for international and retro to be honest, i don't see the problem with them. is it that we're all being picky now? lol

Last night, Johnny Giles and I attended the Design Museum in London to see Saville's work and all of these sleeves and original stuff such as the sheet for Brotherhood was there and it was a great exhibition, especially for NO fans.

586 and Murder sleeves do have meanings, but it comes from Saville's understanding of former artists and their styles and conventions. I know very little about art, but the sleeves all have their own stories. If anyone can get to go, go.

I enjoyed it. IMHO though, Power Corruption & Lies sleeve does nothing for me. It leaves me cold. All the others are fine. My favourite is probably Atmosphere or his Republic work (which is giant mural size at the exhibition)

If your talking about art, then low life must be among the worst, but it has steve on the front, and that makes it one of the best!

International was the most abundant release over here in Germany - it appears every record store stocked it. I really don't like the cover design at all. The job looks like it was thought up in one lunchbreak. Retro also was very poor, I don't know how juxtaposing a mirror ball and a golden eagle says anything about New Order at all.

But I was also very disappointed with the concept for the Get Ready album. It appears that the best of Peter Saville's sleeve art for New Order releases is now long behind him. He is effectively a design icon of the 80s, and no further. Other younger designers appear to have stolen his thunder and come up with far better album sleeve art. People like the Designers Republic and Me Company have always prided themselves on creating unique and distinctive album artwork.
