NO distance selves from Nazi allegations

I was glad to see the new artwork for Retro definitively end the charges of Nazi sympathies in New Order.

i think it is funny, if you read articles and interviews from the first few years of New Order, they claim that they never once even had an idea that the name "new order" might have, or continue with from Joy Division, any implications or reference to Nazism and all that stuff, that they just randomly "liked the name"... i can't believe Barney really is that stupid... or is he ?

i'm not complaining, it's been a great name for the band

doesn't look nazi to me seems to be inspired by an artist called broodthaers who's late work was full of mirrors and eagles so it looks very arty as allways… and that's a big reason for being a new order fan for me ciao

Nah, it was the "new order of cambodia (spelling?)" headline that Gretton read in a paper that inspired the name apparently.

and when she said this, it was a great epiphany to barney! seems like an obvious enough explanation to me. i was surprised that barney hadn't thought about the connection gillian had made. (at least that's what i thought the name meant until i learned otherwise, what with them having another band and all. makes sense.)

i'm not saying that they are really fascist or anything (c'mon... anybody who has paid any attention whatsover knows that is laughable!)... i just think it is absurd that none of the band members would realize that the name New Order has some political and Nazi implications, especially considering the history of Joy Division.... they have to be bullshitting about it... its a clever little irrelevent joke, the name New Order has been a great name for the band.... maybe Gillian was left out of the loop, or Barney was high, but, c'mon!, for all four members not to realize that some people could make some Nazi theme from the band name seems rather absurd... its all a good joke.

Another clue to the choice of name: A former member of the Stooges had a band called The New Order. Joy Division were big fans of Iggy and the Stooges.

A footnote: Iggy Pop released music in France on a record label named Revenge Records.
