Weirdest place you've heard a New Order song...

I was at an Applebees restaurant, and they were playing Elegia. Weird. Definitely not the place I would expect to hear any New Order music, let alone Elegia.

On holiday in Sri Lanka, "Age Of Consent" had somehow found it's way onto the hotel piped music.

In an animated films festival. A quite interesting short film was using "Elegia" as soundtrack.

How about Pretty In Pink (the horror). The instrumental version plays while Jon Cryer sulks in a corner, Andrew McCarthy sulks on his bed, and Molly Ringwold sulks whilst stiching together her prom dress. Also, anytime back in 98 when the Orgy version of Blue Monday was hot, I'd always hear it blaring out of metal-heads' cars. That was wierd enough for me...

They played Blue Monday on Coronation Street this evening!

As for little ole' me, I was taking a shit into this hole in the ground in a city centre bar in Turin about five years ago and the fuckers had Fine Time playin' in the background!! How apt, eh??

Spookily enough mine is 'Elegia' as well in a friend's car who was the least likely person I know to own anything by New Order this was about 1988 and he was into Alexander O'Neal amongst others i'm sure you recall The Hitman and Her from that period. having sat through the Eagles(complete back catalogue i think) and searched every tape in his car all the way from Liverpool to Southall, halfway back home that evening i found it on a compilation album and after the Eagles marathon it was total catharsis. I don't think anyone could appreciate how good it could sound without the prior torture.

It wasen't exactly "Life In the Fast Lane", eh? Yeah, my mom is a huge Eagles fan. I think for anyone like her who was too young for the Beatles, the Eagles were scruffier, uglier substitutes, and very bad ones at that. Don Henley has a voice that would tear thru anyone's eardrums with the power to sever all life systems as we know it...but I digress. If only I could have popped in a NO tape on a recent trip where I had to listen to gospel music.....

I was at the markets where a lady was selling a small stereo to this guy. This guy wanted to hear how the stereo sounded so the lady played a cassette for him. i was shocked to hear Vanishing Point blasting from the speakers.

I was in a pub in Forest Hill in South London once and there was this terrible husband and wife casiotone pop combo on. He was all Miami Vice shiny blue suit circa 1986 and she was the victim of a horrific backcombing incident. Anyway, after about half an hour of subjecting people in the pub to stuff like What a Feeling and Footloose etc. they launched into True Faith. I was mortified and had to leave.

Going slightly off on a tangent but saw Bernard in a shop in Manchester, Getting Away With It came on and he scuttled off into the changing room looking really embarrassed and stayed there til it finished.

Anytime my sister is visiting, she insists on putting on Love Will Tear Us Apart, just because she finds it funny when Ian moans "again". Hopefully the poor girl will get beyond that and appreciate the song for what it's worth.

I came home to visit for a few weeks after getting discharged from the Marines...to find that my 15 year old little brother was hardcore into Top 40 rap/r&b "lets get laid songs." I gave him my Best Of NO CD and Substance...and he's also listened to most other stuff I have. So now, when I go over, it's not uncommon that I find him listening to Lonesome Tonight, True Faith, Blue Monday (of course, but at least he listens to the original version and not Orgy) Ceremony...Sure he still listens to Staind, and Linkin Park, but at least it isn't R. Kelly or some crap. And hey, we both grew up with parents and an older brother who were really into REO Speedwagon, Queen, Jethro Tull, (need I go on?) It's tough being a Post Punk Experimental Techno Rock music fan in my family.

One of the weirdest places I heard a neworder song was on the radio recently....They are so underplayed in the United States,it is sooo pathetic. All they play out here is Limp biscuit (spelled incorrectly purposely), stained, N'sync, or anything that is on TRL.

It is definitely a rarity to hear Barney's voice on American radio and it is a shame.

Clearchannel has taken over just about every major radio station in my area...The local "alternative station" has gone from playing the Cure, the Smiths, old U2, New Order, Depeche Mode...to such progressive and rare gems such as Staind, Blink 182, Limp Craplet, Alien Ant Farm, and even Blue Monday...by Orgy that is. Yes...I realize that stations that play the latest thing to come out of recording companies' asses are going to make more money but why can't there be some stations that play music just for the sake that it sounds beautiful and original. I play trumpet, euphonium, and horn. I'm actually quite good. Will I ever be a famous rich pop star who plays trumpet, euphonium, and horn? Not likely. But those three instruments sound beautiful. And thats what I thought music was supposed to be about. Not anymore though. Music is about appealing to the lowest common denominator.

In my opinion, the Lowest Common Denominator is TRL on MTV USA...Carson Daley is such a tool. He has now clue what good music is all about. If NewOrder strolled into that trl studio, he would probably ask them what "Bizarre Love Triangle" was all about....What an Ass!
