where's Dream Attack

The disk that is entitled "Fan" is just ridiculous! I cannot believe that any best of album would not include Dream attack as one of the tracks. Every poll that I have seen either at this site or others always has Dream attack up there in the top five and many times as their number one song. What is the deal?

What else was missing?? How about "Viscious Streak?" That is a great song from their last album...not Run wild...Very strange....

I don't know if this "Fan" was a real fan or not....

Every "fan" will have a personal list of what represents his or her favourite tracks.

John McReady is a long time fan of the band and without being a smart ass, he's been into New Order alot longer than the majority of those complaining on ths forum.

His selection doesn't match up with mine - so what?

If you don't like it DON'T buy it.

Dead straightforward.

A "simple solution" to what appears to be a REAL problem for many here.

I was just going to post the same topic.

Where the fuck is Dream Attack? Not only is it not on Retro, it's not on any other Best-Of type CD either.

I guess I would put Dream Attack on the album maybe, but it would not be a lock for me.

I'm gonna get sooooooo much shit for this, but: I don't care much for Dream Attack.

Let me explain before you throw rotten tomatoes at me. Jason was nice enough to send me a used copy and when I first got it in the mail, it started skipping during Dream Attack. Thus, I usually avoided it when listening to Technique, but after a while the skipping went away nad I was able to hear the track unhampered. It's good, to be sure, but I can live without it....

Now, go ahead and throw those tomatoes.. :headoff:

I'll stand sort of close to you on this. I like the song, but it has gotten old over the years. Of Technique I am a fan of Mr Disco over Dream Attack for sure.

Which brings me to ask; what would be YOUR selection, by the way?

Just curious!

Where's Dream Attack? It's track #9 on Technique, something that's been available for nearly 14 years!

A simple rule: Don't buy Retro unless you own all the original albums.

I knew this would happen...I would hear from a bunch of jerks who don't like Dream Attack, Yes, Jerks!!!

If you don't like Dream Attack you must not have a sensative bone in your body and you must be a thickneck-type who hangs out with all your old frat boy brothers and talk about all the women you date raped in college....

Am I being rash...or am I just bitter that not everyone loves this song as much as me. It is like a fine wine...It gets better with age. It really grows on you, honestly. The song has so much meaning....

Sorry about the rant...but DreamAttackers unite!!!!

if i had to choose one song to hear before i died, it would be Dream Attack. I have always loved this song and it is probably my favorite song of all time by anyone. Dream Attack......mmmmmmm. It really does have an acoustic ecstasy sound to it as mentioned by Bernard. One of the best songs EVER written. The soundtrack to my life for the last 13 years.

Indeed, slightly harsh words.

Dream Attack would indeed be in my top five too.

Of Technique songs.

It's classic Neworder but I doubt it'd make many overall polls. Certainly not top five anyways - Neworder, IMO, have many many finer moments. Just accept that John McCready has different tastes to you. He can't please everyone. And he hasn't included the Village, Subculture, Face Up or Vanishing Point which are all tracks I'd have any day of the week over Dream Attack.

Well, personally I'm happy that a New Order box set is coming out (since I was ecstatic when JD's "Heart and Soul" came out)...

Just be grateful for small mercys...

Are some peoples memories THAT short that they've already forgotten the 8 year wait between Republic and Get Ready??

You get live gigs, tv appearances, a new DVD, a compilation, various remixes and singles, a film, plus a box set all in the space of 12 months and ya still bloody moaning!!

Christ i dread to think what you would have done in 1993 with just a couple of dodgy remixes and a single from the Beach to keep you going for 8 years!!

Ok Retro has its shortcomings but its unfeasable to please EVERONE! it would have to include basically everything NewOrder has ever recorded and we all know that aint gonna happen however much we may want it too!!

Dream Attack is beautiful. I love it, and it got my girlfriend to like New Order. Everything in the song, the accoustic guitar, the bass line, and the flowing synth-strings, just seem to surround me and make me feel all warm, fuzzy and uplifted.

It's much better than your favorite New Order song.

I hope not - it's good, but I wouldn't consider skipping it a crime of any sort. Well, maybe the sort of crime Moby would attempt, but not the crime of choice for let's say J Rotten.

I don't see why it matters really. Apart from wondering about the versions of Ceremony etc, I didn't actually pay any attention to the tracklisting of the first disks. Surely everyone here has all the albums already - you could always burn your own 'best of'. I kind of assumed that anyone here buying Retro is doing so for the live stuff, the remixes and the semi-mythical bonus disk.
