I really like arthur baker as a producer. he can do so many things, from confusion to twisted tenderness and all the electronic music movement in the middle. having a producer like that opens a million possibilities for an artist. even though I´d prefer NO producing themselves again.

i think with the amount of respect Weatherall has for NO, his contributions would be the most interesting. I do not believe he would radically change the essence of New Order if given album producer responsibilites but his production skills and innovative ideas could help the Order move on from the Vegas Rock Act they are cultivating.

Would have loved to have seen this poll with the Chemical Brothers and Underworld as choices...both would be welcomed. Maybe rather than have guest vocalist, they could do a guest producer/mixer for selected tracks...a trend that is very interesting.

FLOOD would be cool! He did a good job on "Rock The Shack" and has this ability to create a very rough but comfy sound!

What about New Order themselves?

Baker would be my own choice but the idea of having "guest producers" is a good one, maybe for B-sides.

Never heard of half them. Are they all producers, or your mates ?

I think chemical bros / new order should produce it. I love the sound of Here to Stay....

... and one of the choices above is "Matmos"... don't they make lava lamps?

I'd have liked the Chemicals as well. Star Guitar, Out of Control and Here to Stay is enough evidence to suggest they could produce a cracking album. Is anyone lined up?

What about Dr Dre? If they worked with John Robie.......

With all the power a modest studio can afford what is the requirement of a producer when NO are more than capable of writing and recording happily themselves. Isn't it a case of who would you like to have influence New Order's music and notably next album? ... which brings us back to Goldie Hawn. Or Pauline Fowler.

No, but half of them would never even realistically have a shot with producing New Order, or care to, so they might as well be!

Richard Manwaring - he produced OMD's Architecture And Morality - one of the best albums of all time. Experimental, appealing, haunting... so many things to describe it.

For some reason, I'd love to see what Arthur Baker can do with a full album...

I've been listening to his remixes of 1963, his version of Let's Go, plus you have Confusion & Theives Like Us...

His remix of 1963 is the best song enhancement I've seen in a NO song (with World's perfecto mix).. and Behind Closed Door was the hidden "gem" to have never surfaced on any promo, and is a quite decent B-Side.

So why not?

Steve Osbourne (half of Perfecto) did a quite decent job on Get Ready I think..

I don't know if NO are interested in producing themselves these days, the only thing they have done since 1993 is the New Order mix of Regret...!

I have to add.. I sure hope the Moby collaboration will happen on this new album, even if they did NDF live, they wanted to do something for Get Ready, and it never happened, so maybe there's more.

I know many of you are not fans of these collaborations, but it doesn't mean it has to be on vocals.. I've never seen anyone complain about Here To Stay...!

I agree with Almanso. If it has to be someone off the list I would choose Baker.

I did not vote because I would prefer they produce themselves. I feel that their work can be less self-conscious and more naturally experimental without the outside influence of a "name producer".

Remixes are another story. That's when they can hand over the tapes and see what someone else can bring out.

if not, then arthur baker. although i hope his producing would be a lot better than his DJing was at the glasgow barrowland last october. UGH!

I hope there won´t be any guests on the next one. I mean, they did what they wanted to do in terms of music. also in terms of business because they could reach the "new crowd" by having corgan, gillespie and chembros and touring with moby. now they have to prove they have substance enough to take a step further. their music HAS to have its own weight now. I think guests were OK on get ready considering the time they (as NO) were out of the road. guests gave them new oxygen on their careers´ rebirth, very helpful indeed. but now all depends on their own again, like it was before. and that´s why I think it would be a perfect moment to produce themselves again.

Osborne can have the job, as far as I'm concerned. I don't believe that the Chems will produce anything, as HTS had a troubled birth: remember NO said it wasn't on GR because they weren't happy with it´s first mix and had to come back to it later, wich seems to imply it wasn't a fruitful collaboration...

Gareth Jones. He did wonderfully with the Interpol album (as well as all that Depeche Mode stuff)

Get Real ! It'll be Osborne again in all probability, with them doing a bit, Arthur Baker involved somewhere down the line. No fancy fly-by-night producers or geezers who only septics have heard of.

Sven Vath? There's a name I ain't heard in a LONG LONG time. But really, none of the above. Ideally they should produce it themselves, but if that's not a runner then I'd really like to see Jim Steinman doing an album of piano ballads with them. You think I'm joking...

I think sven is good for the job, he could add sounds that newOrder have never thought of, but I think it would be best if the guys produced themselves.

I don't even remember posting that one!!!

I've really never heard of most of these people either, they sound like a bunch of porn stars to me.

I say now Jason Pierce, and get the 100 piece orchestra in. Only trouble is we may not see it for 5 years...

shoot....I don't know 99% of those listed. I've never much liked anything Arthur Baker has done so I can't pick him. Stephen Hague did such wonderful stuff for NO so he's got my pick. I wouldn't mind PSB producing NO...or at least remixing them...

But then NO did a fabulous job producing Get Ready!!!! They've got my vote as well.

Anita, I'm afraid you're going to get lots of posts telling you that NO DIDN'T produce Get Ready... and this is the first one

I'd really like they produced themselves, but Flood would also be great...

I'd like to see someone new produce it. Give it a fresh sound. Keep the traditional neworder elements there (hookys bass, guitars, a bit more synths than on get ready) but maybe give it a kind of dark electro feel - I dont know. Anyway bit less predictable than recent work, more an evolution of the New Order sound. Dont really want another heard all before and better album. I think the stuff with the Chemicals was good epecially Out of Control (although not essentially a New Order song)

In a perfect (and somewhat imaginary) world, is it not possible to hark back to their roots and produce the new material by themselves; incorporating the spiritual essence of Martin Hannet.

Ignoring the popular charts, compose an album based entirely on new directions which bring new twists to the core NO sounds; bass, vocals, drums and synths. Let dance re-mixes float away from the equation and focus only on extracting the maximum potential from their new songs.

A producer is not necessary.

I've forgotten his name but I think the producer who works with, among others , Mercury Rev and The Flaming Lips would do a nice job of a New Order album.

Could the band handle doing *that* much acid in their old age? I think the product of such a collaboration would blow everyone's minds...

I didn't vote for anyone either; I think NO should produce it themselves. That way, they're in total control and it'll sound exactly how they want it to.
