New Order Fan - Age Group Poll

I wonder what sort of age mix is out there amongst all the contributors/viewers. There are those that have caught on since Get Ready, and others who have actually seen Joy Division!

becoming 29 these days and slowly but surely the midlife-crisis before 30 is coming...

I have been a NewOrder fan since i saw them performing "Blue Monday" on "Countdown" in 1983. I remember it because Peter Hook was using bowling pins on his drum machine, it fascinated me and i have been a fan ever since.

I'm 35 and a NO/JD fan since 1981

i'm 22, but feel about 42.

I am 33. The first white hairs are frosting the sides of my head and I do not recover from hangovers as fast as I used to. On the bright side now I work and have enough money to follow New Order around.

Never saw Joy Division live and probably would not have liked them back then anyway.

I'm turning 21 in about two weeks, the box set is out on 12th, and Christmas is just around the corner. Decemeber will be good, very good.

Not quite as old as Rocket Mick, I just turned 41, and it isn't nearly as bad as I once would've thought Yeah, I've been a NO fan since the beginning.

Jim Gilberto, who is also 41, (where are you Jim?) did a thread on this, and I believe that he tabulated the results some time back, but there've been lots of new members here since.

Interesting results so far. Looking at the numbers, I'd say many of you in my age group (I'm 33 my wife tells me - alzhiemers you see) were turned on in their mid teens during the Blue Monday period??? I can remember going apeshit over New Order and collecting all their stuff starting around '83 and even then thinking to myself, "I wonder how long this madness will last". Well here I am...

36 and been a New Order/Joy Division fan for over half my life.

Don't know if this counts but my son is well into them. Admittedly he's not much choice in our house but he can sing along to most of it and I keep finding my CDs in his room. He's nearly 9 and is pleading to be taken to the next live outing.

i'm 28 and i've noticed that i can't get out of a chair the same way i used to be able to. i also spot a gaggle of teenagers and catch myself saying 'kids these days...'.

I've been 26 for about a week and a half. I've been a New Order fan for god knows how long. Finally discovered Joy Division in the mid 90's (I'm a bit slow). Yay for me.

Here I am thanks for remembering me...and i'm 41 and have been a fan since PC&L. Did do 2 polls, the first around this time last year and at that time we were around 28 yrs young, add a year, 29, but yeah, with so many new ones, it would be interesting to see if we have aged or not. If we get enough responding would be glad to get the results.

Absolutely! Young people these days have no respect!

I got my zimmer frame out this morning and had my two kids dancing to Prime 5-8-6 for around 15 minutes. Even got the neigbours kid in on the act. I expect a royalty cheque from New Order of course (securing their pensions in years to come).

Me too, age is weird, but better than the alternative. Ask any dead person! Another compensation is that we oldies tend to have loads of early vinyl stuff. Now show some respect Leslie, and pass the digestives.

27,...been a fan since I regularly heard "Regret" and "World" on the radio here in the states (those days will never be seen again) and started buying some of their back catalog...first heard of the band back when "True Faith" was released and I was only 11. I thought it was a great song, but I rarely heard it and thought I would never hear of the group again. Luckily, I was wrong on that last point!

Anyone have any Werther's originals?

Werther's play havoc with my dentures, as does Thornton's Special Toffee. You just can't beat a choc or plain digestive, dunked in tea/coffee naturally, proper comfort food. That's why I never have any in the house........

I'm only a wee nipper of 18 years but I actually got into new order by accident! I started listening to joy division nearly two years ago when I bought "closer" after downloading a few mp3s. I had only got into them as Nine Inch Nails did a cover of "Dead Souls" but I had always been aware of "Love Will Tear Us Apart". Then about 8 months later, my mate left CD1 of New Order's "Substance" in a CD case of mine when I was at a party. I stuck it on to have a listen. Knowing that they were the remnants of Joy Division I knew that it would take something special to convince me. He didn't get it back until a couple of weeks ago! Since then, New Order have steadily grown to become a main feature in my cd rack and player. The only thing that lets them down is their tendency to be a bit weak on the lyrical side but with infectious melodies, beats and riffs they are hardly deserving of such criticism. You can't be brilliant at everything!

P.S. VOTE CEREMONY FOR BEST SONG!( actually, all the songs are brilliant bar true faith - just make sure it doesn't win)

33, Temptation drew me in more than Ceremony for some reason... plundered the back catalogue. Still remember to this day the moment I first heard UP - killer b-line opening - gets me every time. Found nool message board after heartwarming emails from Mr Jarvis/Mr Trowell in response to some ramblings I left lying around somewhere.

Hmm, "Less than 20 years old" is the second smallest demographic. That seems to reflect the frustration of being in high school, at time when most young people are very excited about music, and none of your friends have ever heard of any of the bands you like.

I have a friend who, at a party, thought the name "Joy Division" sounded cool so she pretended to know who they were. I said, "I bought a New Order CD today. They used to be Joy Division, you know". She replies, "Oh, Joy Division. I remember them back in the day". (This coming from a person who claims to have "all over the map" music taste which includes the likes of Bloodhound Gang, Incubus, and God knows what else. No offence to any of their fans here). Seeing as we were only born in 1985 I don't know how to expose my friend to the embarrassment that she doesn't know what the hell she's talking about at her own party. "Um, they broke up in 1980," I tell her, skipping the story of the death of JD in the name of simplicity. "Oh, well, my mom used to listen to them," she said quickly. Right. Well...

I have managed to get some of my friends (the abovementioned one not included) to like JD, at least. :)

I'm 36 but I've always looked young for my age. Even when I was only one year old people said I didn't look a day over zero.

I'm nearly 27 and been a fan for just over 10 years. I'd heard True faith, BLT, BM and Shellshock back in the 80's but didn't realise they were sung by the same group until I heard Substance being played in a music store. The rest is history.

stopped listening to them after 'touched by the hand of God'... or should i say i collected their stuff..but didn't listen to it..

pretty much gave up on them from 1991-2002...but i did hear 'electronic', 'revenge', 'other two', and 'monaco'..

and started listening to their old stuff again in 2003..

43, sorry I can't beat you :-). Looong way back I bought PCL; still remember the exact place where. Since a few months started to play old (yes they are; and I still play vinyl) records again. Watched the 3 16 and 5 11 dvd's and play their music everyday again. Something hasn't changed.

I'm 22 and I've been a fan since I was 19. Got Substance for my birthday and it started from there!

I've been a major fan for about a year now, but I bought P,C&L quite a time ago (like in the late 90's). So the Process to come a fan was a very long and though road to walk on my case.

Better this way. New Order/Joy Division takes about 80% of all the music I listen these days :)

41 im ashamed to say. first got into jd in 78 when i saw transmission in the local record shop (slipped disc in chorley)oddly enough it was the sleeve on the 7 inch that sold it,all spacey crab nebulea stuff. back in them days you could get em to play it in shop before u buy,the girl behind the counter thought it was on 33 instead of 45 rpm coz of ians voice. i also passed up a chance to see them at preston warehouse which i still kick myself about to this day. loved j.d still love n.o what more can i say.

Turning 38 this year. Scary. Feel 21 but a little tired. Discovered NO in the summer of 1983 when someone left a tape with The Beach, recorded from college radio station, in my ghetto blaster (that's what we called them back in those days). Been addicted ever since.

So technically a member of the Blue Monday Generation even though The Beach was the first NO song I ever heard.

Oddly enough, I remember being in a study room at the University of Iowa and saw the lyrics of LWTUA on the wall. This many have been in 1982. I was not privileged to hear JD until late 1984.

I've been a New Order fan since I heard Everythings gone green which seems so long ago I can't remember. It was one of those black round things (tires?) vinyl.

24, pushing 25. fan since about '88 or so... about the time i got tired of U2 and the DM tapes i had.

I'm almost 28, and I am NO fan since 1988, listening to old vinil records and looking for shows in bad quality tapes.
