Ah.. I can see a battle between Shellshock and State of the Nation on this one.. but I'm sure Shellshock will win this. (It has my vote)

nahhh, how can you not like shellshock? molly ringwalds face pops in my head everytime! ok so shellshock isnt one of their greatest, but it still beats state of the patient any day. that horrible extended version on Substance.....ugh.
State of the World. Nation in Motion is very bad too, but it's because of its very specific them. You can't expect to find poetry in a football song...
Or is it Nation of the World and State of Motion?
Originally posted by Spotnick Obviously no, but if you're lucky, I might change it manually if I ever get out of work...!
I can see by the threads you posted this afternoon that you have a lot of work...:D
Shite of the Nation. Overstayed its welcome by about 5 minutes.
We should all take World In Motion for what it was - a football song. Don't take it too seriously !

Yes, but building the damned installation packages I'm doing right now takes 10 mins, so I have 10 minutes of free time a lot of times per day!
Ah well..!
State Of the Nation without a doubt get's my vote. They must have been on the not so good drugs when they wrote that shite.
No way Shellshock is going to get more votes than World In Motion. World In Motion is dorky with a capitol D
This was hard, I almost didn't vote on this poll but I reluctantly chose "Murder". :headoff:
can´t believe state of the nation´s being the worst... well, this kind of things happens. what can I say? I say WIM.
I think a certain amount of demographics come into it when voting on topics related to World in Motion. Of course everyone not English is going to vote for it in a "worst of" poll ! (even plastic Scots like Shug of Notrhamptonshire, England ;)). Including it in a poll like this will skew the outcome - please treat it for what it was, a one-off commissioned track with guest vocals and a completely different type of publicity etc, rather than a regular New Order release.
For the record, I don't particularly care for it either. I was thrilled to see them getting more publicity at the time of release, but cringed at the song itself, and its inclusion at the summer festivals meant that we didn't get to hear another New Order song instead.
"Shellshock". Second choice would be Confusion. Can't listen to both tracks when i'm sober...
Shiteshock more like. SOTN is not that bad a toon - the B side version is at least tolerable. But shiteshock is just a horrible mess.
dunno, dunno....i guess WIM took the longest to grow on me...i can't really listen to shellshock anymore. it's a little too 80's
i still think State of the Nation is a good song. hmmmmmmmmmmmm.....WIM is da winna.
Not surprised WIM's so high, but it does seem a mite petty. Change the lyrics and drop the rap and you've got classic New Order by Numbers.
Good question Major - just who here thinks HTS is the *worst* on that list ?? Ahh, freewill ... ;)
state of the nation.....shocking....i think i may have mentioned this before but when they played this on the tube the barnster had the most disgusting yellow jumper on..alongside some dodgy jeans and loafers....bad all round.

Saved only partially by a cracking version of Broken Promise straight afterwards !

Saved only partially by a cracking version of Broken Promise straight afterwards ! yes,yes..i remember now....was it just the two songs they played???...
I think they played a longer set, but I've never seen a copy of a recording anywhere. Somebody must know ?
i went with my heart--world in motion--but it would be followed closely by state of the nation. irritating. i don't particularly like thieves like us either, but the stolen mix redeems it for me (and the instrumental ain't terrible, either).
I voted for Shellshock, but I'm not too sure... the only version I have is a cover by the Backstreet Boys. :-)
State Of The Nation & Shellshock both wee all over WIM, the biggest mistake New Order ever made, that record.
threw down my vote for wim. maybe its cause im not into football? *waits for the cups of ice/beer bottles to be thrown at him*
"State Of The Nation" for me. Don't sing songs about politics when your not political, it's crap, so is "Shellshock", newOrder are not "pretty in pink". Hey Erik, love your avatar, Bender rules.
For me, it is most definitely 'WORLD IN MOTION'. I like all of the songs in the list, even 'STATE OF THE NATION' & 'SHELLSHOCK'. Both extremely underated.
This is a difficult poll, but it is 'WORLD IN MOTION 'for me.![]()
I think opinions on this seem to depend how old you were when you heard the songs and the circumstances. :\peek:
I was very politically/apolitically active when 'State Of The Nation' was released, and I still have the NME, Sounds and Melody Maker cuttings of interviews when the single was released. :stupid:
For me, it was a pleasure to hear another single from my favourite band, before the album was released. :\party:
Shellshock, again, especially hearing it as part of the soundtrack of 'Pretty In Pink' - a film I went to see at the cinema with an ex-girlfriend, while we were having problems, sort of hit home. :\pissedoff:
My least favourite of the lot is 'World In Motion' - but mainly because of the really crap lyrics, the TERRIBLE rap (even Barney's ridiculous Electronic attempts were better) and the fact that England didn't win the World Cup, even with the crowd singing a New Order track! ![]()
Even so, every New Order track brings back some kind of association/memory for me, so they're all special... :barf:
SHELLSHOCK...SHELLCOCK...whatever!! They all basically suck arse. Not the biggest fan of WIM either but at least it has become SOMEWHAT tolerable to me o'er the years. Molly Ringwald or not...SS has got to go!![]()

I think it's good that everyone is choosing from the three that are obviously the worst.
But 9 people voting for "Murder"? Uncool.
World in motion. I like ShellShock and State of the nation, and I love Here to Stay (as you can see by my name), but World in Motion is just lame. Now, if Fine Time weren't an album single, I would've picked that.
Shellshock.....i'd be shellshocked if you locked me in a room and forced me to listen to this mindless drivel....![]()
Yes, believe it or not, I voted for Murder. Shellshock is one of my favourite tracks (probably the last choice for a "best of" cd) and State of the Nation is not that good - but I do enjoy it. I like Murder, too, so it was not an easy choice.

They actually played three tracks that night. I can't for the life of me remember what the third was, but it was played AFTER the end credits, so the TV viewers didn't see/hear it. I've got a video of it somewhere, I'll have to try to find it...
i voted world in motion... although i bet when the next world cup comes around *if england qualify*, we'll all be doing the barnesy rap no problem.
i look at it as a bit of fun to be honest.. still the coolest football record ever made (and forever will be)
:p
Cant vote anymore but it would be Everythings Gone Green. I just skip it when I play Substance. World In Motion was actually one of their best songs, and for the fact it was the first proper football song in England!! (Long before 3 Lions and Fat Les!).
Like many I really hated Shellshock, I remember ordering the import of the 12" and being so disappointed with it when it turned up. Really hate State of the nation and WIM too. I guess the most telling factor here would be the last time I listened to any of these songs. Haven't played the first two since 1987 and I never even bothered to buy WIM.
Incidently TVNZ is using 60 Miles an hour as a backing for an All Blacks promo for the world cup.
it would have to be murder for me, its atmospheric but it just doesnt go anywhere at all, sort of like early u2 ![]()
"My mind is going, there is no question about it"
Only it's not my mind that's going. For all those people who voted for Thieves and Murder, here's a definition of "Worst":
"least good or most inferior". I've included this as you're obviously working to a different dictionary to me, given the choices!
Bloody democracy, moan, moan, moan...
I am actually shocked that Shellcock isn't way out in it's own league in this poll.
Dreadful song. I hate the fact it is on every best of New Order compilation. I am actually grateful it isn't on Miranda Sawyer's choice for Retro Disc 1.
State of the Nation - always recall buying this on day of release and being SO disappointed, thinking NO were going off in some horrible, bland direction. Glad I was proved wrong....

Good question mate. Time for an outing campaign perhaps?
No matter what they say you do, your heart meets you late at night
a while back i foolishly voted for World In Motion, which is frankly a fabulous piece of pop. i rescind that motion and instead vote for Thieves Like Us, which is quite possibly the most annoying NO single. ugh.
