Results are taken from all the polls we had over the weeks.
What is your least favorite song and why.
If your worst song is not in this list, pick the one you dislike the most in the list above and tell us why, I had to cut the 20 leaders in each polls.
Quite difficult to say actually... so I'll let you go ahead and brake the ice, my logicial pick would be Angel Dust..

I voted for Slow Jam.
I don't think i need to go into why i dislike this song again.
I felt betrayed when I heard it and still feel like they have deliberately attacked me by including this song on Get Ready. Let me say that i am as excited for the next NewOrder record as I have ever been (including the excruciating pain that I felt waiting for the follow up to Technique). They have shone brightly with incredible tunes worthy of the name NewOrder (Crystal, Primitive Notion) and more great songs will follow BUT....slow jam is the dumbing down of neworder...Slow Jam is the true SHAME OF THE NATION (a tune that is magical when compared to Slow Jam).
although i think 'world in motion' is probably their worst, it's a footy song, after all, so between chemical, rock the shack and state of the nation i rolled the dice and went with chemical.
"Such a good thing"... such a bad song... it makes you even appreciate "Slow Jam" a little bit
nine of these songs are on Retro i think, if you count the bonus disc too...
if you notice, State of the Nation did not make the cut on Retro... or International... or the Best of... or even was not even remixed for the Rest of...

After much deliberation (and several re-listens just to make sure), my X has gone in the box marked Fine Time. It just doesn't do anything for me. It didn't at the time, it doesn't fit on Technique, and no matter what you say or what I do, it still comes out as poo :)
SOTN for me, although I must admit I don't feel betrayed or personally attacked when I hear it. Slow Jam may not be their best effort, but it beats the shite out of much of Republic IMHO.

Shellshock was crap when they released it and it hasn't improved with age. What were they on when they wrote this one.

I had to vote for We All Stand. On its own, perhaps not the worst New Order track... but being stuck between Age of Consent and The Village, it brings PCL to a standstill, and just when it was about to get going!

Such a Good Thing ain't half bad...doesn't quite sound like the order though...and it's new to me...didn't hear it until I got my bonus disc on Saturday!!!!

SOTN. Their worst. Fine Time is crap, but Barney's dance on Top of the Pops made it worthwhile. We All Stand on PCL is crap, the bass sounds wrong, but the Peel Session version from '82 is great. Different atmosphere. Shellshock....nuff said.

so did Saville decide to reproduce the Bizarre Love Triangle sleeve for State of theNation with only slight color change cuz he thought it was a crap tune (similar to his attitude towards SubCulture)? In fact, the sleeve for State looks to not have as much color or character as the BLT sleeve. The clues were on the package...typical Saville style.
State of the Nation is pretty bad...i may like the ooohs and aaahhs from the backing singer more than Barney's vocal. Still, i'd rather hear State than SJam. I guess i'm in this boat all by myself though...

About both the sleeve and the backup singers..
I actually think that Saville comes up with a few ideas for each project and then reuses his 2nd or 3rd choice later so he doesn't have to "work" again...
Barney always has to be careful when using backup singers because his voice is so thin and creaky at the high end.
My girlfriend recently mentioned that she noticed that he rarely sings (ok so she likes Tom Jones and Chris Isaak ok!?) but instead kinda shouts or speaks the lyrics...
You are not alone...SLOW JAM is a 2 out of 10 (ok liked some of the guitar work on it) Lyrically it would be a ZERO...and overall it is a throwaway track...
But then again I think that even the worst NO song is pretty good...but that's my issue and I'm getting therapy for it...really....I promise...

Having said that, it's amazing to notice how you could make a "Worts of" CD with the nominated songs and it would still be head and shoulders over 95% of the "Best of" published for the Chirstmas period (Honourable exceptions: Bjork & Bowie)

Angel Dust is pretty poor. 
Broken Promise is good!
Chemical is quite appalling.
Doubts Even Here has actually been growing on me recently. Though still some way off great.
Ecstasy should never be in this list.
Neither should Elegia (though admittedly I voted for it in the Low-life poll..).
Fine Time is gloriously, brilliantly daft.
Rock The Shack isn't all that bad, just the title, Bobby Gillespie and the "Rock the shack, rock the shack, rock the shaaack!" chorus let it down.
Run Wild's alright.
Slow Jam is a pile of poo.
Salvation theme...er...can't remember! Still, can't have been that bad, then.
Sooner Than You Think is excellent.
SOTN is incredibly mediocre, but there are worse.
Anyone who votes for Subculture needs a good slap - the best song about merchant banking ever!
Such A Good Thing isn't a classic, but not worthy of hate. Memories of the last World CUp too!
Though Shellshock is not brilliant, I don't see what some people have against it.
Ultraviolence is far too good for this list.
The Him is not very good.
We All Stand is absolutely rotten on PC&L, but the Peel sessions version shows it's not all that bad a song.
I would support a team of Nazi paedophiles against England. (Although, I did once support England, against the Netherlands in 1996.) But World In Motion is good! The John Barnes rap is the stuff of legend.
So it's basically down to Angel Dust, Slow Jam or Chemical. Chemical it is then.
I refuse to vote on account of Liar not being there. It makes at least half of those songs shine like diamonds.

I would have to for for Shellshock i suppose, closesly followed by State of the Nation. They are barely acceptable B-sides and should never have been released as singles.
State of the Nation worse the shitshack, get to fook, as they say oop north. It may not have great lyrics but it has fantastic classic New Order feel to it. I think he gets away with the bollocks lyrics a lot more than at present.

Personally, I would have to go with Liar. Doesn't seem to be anything here I detest a tenth as much as I do that track.

Hum, funny, I didn't even notice, and that surprises me... actually, the "problem" was, the votes for Republic were balanced through the whole album, there was no standout track, Chemical had the more votes...
But IMHO, Liar is not a bad song, it only has the Someone Like You syndrom.. good song with horrible chorus and annoying backing vocals...
I couldn't vote for one of the older songs, if only for the fond memories of younger days. So Rock the Shack.

Ive skiped shellshock and state of the nation so many times on substance that I think they've realised how bad they are and ran off together and joined the circus, leaving my lovely subsatnce just perfect without them.
i voted for "elegia" coz i find it to samey
although my worst song would have to be "confusion" i just find it iritating!

In the absence of LIAR and BEHIND CLOSED DOORS it has to be ROCK THE SHACK. I almost feel ashamed to admit it but i like SOTN!! Nice funky guitar riff despite the awful lyrics.
my least favorite is the perfect kiss...and i only say that to piss people off., but i dont really like it anyway.
Only good thing about Shellshock was the Ltd. Edition they released in NZ with Thieves Like Us instrumental on it. Now that is a great track!

Rock The Shack is growing on me too - chorus SUCKS, but sound and verse are cool.
Wow, I guess we all have differing opinions. I don't find SOTN too bad, I kinda like it. Shellshock is "OKAY", never really did move me. The original version of Subculture on "Low-Life" is better than the remixed-version of it on Substance, I kinda like Bernard's raw vocals on Low-Life.
Now, I hate to say it (since it seems like a lot of people like this song), but "Rock the Shack" just inverts my balls inside-out! Granted, Bernard doesn't always sing with true vocal perfection, but Bobby Gillespie's vocals are irritating to my ears...in my own opinion, he does this slightly-twangy, Bob Dylan-esque shouting with his vocals, and it never really comes close to singing in my book. It sounds awfully close to John Travolta's character Vinny Barbarino from "Welcome Back Kotter"! At least Bernard tries to SING. The music of the song is great, it's just that Bobby's attempt at vocals sour the whole mix for me.

there are some songs I love on this list, like Sooner Than You Think, The Him, Elegia and Ecstacy.
In saying all that there is some utter rank rubbish, like Shellshock, Run Wild and We All Stand.
We All stand live on Pumped Full of Drugs, kicks ass though as its more up-tempo, if that version had been on PCL people would view it very differently me thinks.
My vote goes to STATE OF THE NATION. Its complete rubbish, its been ignored by the band since, and deservedly so. Crap lyrics, they tried to make it into something. But it just isnt there.

They played it to death between mid 85 and late 86 - if the lyrics were better it wouldn't be that bad a song.
shellshock pretty much blows. it gets my vote. and i agree with the person that said Peter Saville reflected its sub-par nature on the cover.
Notice that Sooner Than You Think has no vote.. then how come it was voted as the 3rd worst track on Low-Life? 
And I was sure We All Stand was going to win this easily, it was the stand out track of the first round !!
a head to head between SOTN and RTS? i was sure SOTN was gonna be up against shellshocked...since i considered these two songs to be the worst of the worst.:\puke:
Although I confess I usually skip SOTN on Substance, it is nowhere near We All Stand or Slow Jam in badness. Also Chemical is not bad; I actually rather like it.

in complete agreement with you here man. We all stand is pretty bad, but I like the peel sessions version. and since i have yet to hear a decent version of SOTN, it gets my vote!

i don't know what you guys are hearing when you listen to RTS...it's a great song. one of my favourites on GR. SOTN is virtually unlistenable....:\puke:

We All Stand is not a bad song. It's just quirky, with the same 'unsettling' feel they sometimes went for as Joy Division (detuned synths on Isolation live, etc.) I'm not saying the experiment's to everyone's taste (most people like the Peel Sessions version better)but I can see how the PC&L version gives us a little reprise of the former incarnation before getting all cheery with 'The Village.'
What I've always wondered from my months on this forum....why is Blue Monday so hated? It's the second or third song I've heard by them, and I still find it quite excellent....what peeves most? Being played in every live show since '83? The standard remixes every 5 years??
