Ok, i saw the limited edition retro boxset at the mega hmv in toronto for 92 dollars (canadian...but it's still A LOT OF MONEY!) and i'm really debating whether or not i want to get it. i asked the guy to put it on hold for me until friday. i have 35 dollars worth of hmv gift certificates...so with all the math (subtraction, tax etc) i end up paying 65.55 for the boxset...which is A LOT OF MONEY! I'M IN FREAKING UNIVERSITY HERE! MONEY IS SCARCE!

so, i try to rationlise why i would get it, but looking at the track listing of the original 4 cds...it doesn't impress me and i just don't wanna feel like i'm paying 65 bucks for a bonus cd...i thinking i could download the rarities and get the pavement's slanted and enchanted redux instead...

ok...we ranted enough about why retro disapoints blah blah blah. (we don't need to hear that) but at the end of the day...is it worth that much? is any box set worth that much? i never bought a boxset in my life cuz the price scares the bejesus out of me.

You are probably better off purchasing Retro, online. I guess HMV UK/Amazon UK would be best. I think some of the North American NOOL'ers have done that and it was cheaper.

I wouldn't pay 70 bucks for that thing. But that's just me other people would feel different. I bought the JD box set for around $70 and I will say that it was worth every penny.

where were you 3 months ago when Retro was listed at 16.99? i had it delivered to my front steps for about 25dollars US. Not bad. I definitely would NOT pay any more than about 40 dollars for this set. If you have the albums already, don't bother. Nothing on the bonus disc is that exciting or essential. Buy Slanted and Enchanted Redux...now that is a collection...why can't the Order put something like that out?

good question...pavement knows how to treat its fans right.:thumb:

but i don't buy things off the internet...mainly cuz i don't have a credit card and i hate borrowing money of any sort from anyone (including visa or the government.:()

Yeah but 3 months ago, we didn't know the bonus CD was going to exist...!

This is why I didn't order it, I would have bought the Canadian release otherwise.

95$ is way overpriced.. I paid 60$ CDN for having it delivered from the UK to my house... (60.67$ to be exact, billed on my credit card)

The limited edition boxset is listed at 83.99$ on HMV.ca btw, the domestic release is listed at 54.99.. if you add PST & GST, it will cost you more than ordering it from HMV.co.uk :D (and that one doesn't have the bonus CD)

Remember, there will be less Retro bonus CD than copies of Run 2.. :eek2:

i checked the tracklisting for the boxset and it still doesn't impress me. i have all of the songs in one form or another from the first 2 cds...i don't care for remixes and the live stuff...well

let's look at the 5th disc...

  1. Temptation 1998
  2. Transmission Live 2002.01.20 Gold Coast,
  3. Such A Good Thing Original Version 4:07
  4. Best & Marsh 12" Version 4:31
  5. Let's Go Extract from Original Version 2:01
  6. True Faith Pink Noise Morel Edit 4:29
  7. Run Wild Steve Osborne Original Mix 4:11
  8. The Perfect Kiss Live Video Version 9:55
  9. Elegia

the only thing that stands out is the "best and marsh 12" and elegia. maybe i'm better off with pavment redux...

one question about let's go...is it the same version as the salvation soundtrack?

No it's an edit.

And Best & Marsh.. that version is available on the Round & Round Canadian CD, you can find that at used shops..

Elegia though, you'll hopefuly never see that surface again... (which make the word "limited" worth it)

You can always also wait for the US edition.. maybe that'll be cheaper.

You could have bought my copy for £16.94 a few weeks ago Snucker when I advertised it, but now I rather like it and won't be selling !

Gonna make a run through the Portland stores to see if I can find it this weekend, if not I'm gonna wait til the US version comes out snucker. I know you wanna get that Pavement set, which is a great package indeed, but don't forget about the double DVD that's out as well (if ya don't have a player yet, just buy that until you do get one; it's also well worth the money).
