Heart and Soul vs. Retro

Not sure if this was done...but which box set do you like, and why

Nothing wrong with Retro, but Heart is certainly more "complete" (comprehensive)than Retro, i like the Heart booklet better also. The live disc is an excellent inclusion for both.

I don't have "Heart & soul" for one very simple reason: my wife promised it to me as far as the Christmas of 98 (well the truth is that I asked her for it as a gift!) and I'm still waiting for it!

I prefer Heart & Soul because of the booklet, the cover picture, the whole artwork actually, and the fact it is as complete as it could have been. Retro is fine but could have been better (especially if Love Vigilantes would have been available as a regular track and not just as a hidden track). Anyway I love Retro and listen to it since I bought it.

Retro cos its Neworder & I prefer them over JD.

Apples & Oranges just about sums up the representative differences between the 2 though.

I will not vote on this, as you cannot judge the two. You can't possibly compare a 2 year band's box set with a 22 year old band's set. You could maybe compare it with Echo's box, but we all know Echo would win easily - as it has been expressed over and over again. I would say that Echo's set is probably the best compiled box set period, as far as proper representation of a 20 year band. The Cure is supposedly working on their's and the word is that it is supposed to be a phenominal collection of non-album stuff. Time will tell.

Yeah, I mean what possesses them to release the things they do. Re-releasing the already MASSIVELY oever released Peel Sessions is the dumbest reissue I have ever seen. 1000 copies or not, it's a waste. Time to throw us a bone with some meat on it, not one we all had given to us last year, or 5 years ago, or 10 years ago.

What a bummer voting Joy Division over newOrder, my 2 favorite bands, but Joy Division win (fuck it).

At the moment I would have to say Heart and Soul as it was tremendous to have a virtually full set of JD songs again. As I bought the Paris and Preston live CDs at the same time there was only JD blasting out of the car stereo for 6 months. If I can just get the NO bonus CD out of the car for a bit I might just move onto another disc. Dont thimk I've even played the club disc yet.

I voted for heart and soul. I really enjoy retro, though, so it was a decision based on amount of overall listening. Obviously, with a few years in the can, I've listened to H&S many more times than retro. Even with retro's "newness factor" though, I still put on H&S pretty regular. As far as I'm concerned, they are both gems, but joy divisions set is pretty much the crown jewel in my entire music collection, and at about 1500 cd's, 200 vinyl l.p's and upwards of 200 cassettes, not to mention 7"'s and 10"'s,I'd say for me it's the winner by a large margin.

I still don't own Heart and Soul, but only because I already had all the material apart from IALP and Ceremony. It's more interesting, as people have said, because it is the closer on the book of JD (unless they clean up some old gigs - there's a few that would make ideal releases). Retro is a good rertrospective on New Order's back catalogue, with some hard-to-find remixes (for your avarage record buyer) and some hitherto unavailable (to the majority) live tracks, which makes it a winner.

Box sets of existing current bands are bound to be difficult - there's more to come from this band.....

i voted 'heart & soul' for reasons mentioned above. since JD stopped releasing material long ago, it's easier to put together a retrospective of their material, which makes h&s more comprehensive by default. plus, there's the old complaint about glaring omissions on 'retro'. i know it's harder to do a box-set on NO than JD, but a few tweaks here and there....

another (superficial) reason: i really like the h&s booklet. i first dug it out of my ex's collection a few years back, at 5 A.M. when i couldn't sleep. i curled up on the sofa with a nice cup of tea and the booklet. it made for a damn good read.

Must go with H&S...It was just more exciting to find in the first place...I had just gotten to Japan and there was no JD in sight. Then fate landed me in Okinawa where low and behold...there it was! It was unexpected, RETRO...we knew too much about that one for too long...

...and second most everyone else: It's a better booklet.
