Pitchfork Media pans Retro

Pitchforkmedia.com, one of the Internet's most discerning, viable, and critically acclaimed music websites around gave New Order’s Retro a 4.5 out of a possible 10. This is important threefold in that they operate stateside, unanimously applauded Get Ready, and the American distributor has dropped the ball big time on domestic distribution. The disc set is virtually unavailable either with or without the free bonus disc. Ironically the elusive fifth disc was the only one that garnished high marks. The enigma of New Order continues as they wonder how a band can put out material a grand as Such A Good Thing and with a coin flip be totally lackadaisical about an inferior box set representing the total of their accomplishments. Underachieving never ceases. Here’s looking at 50 in the from of a couch potato. Welcome a remote control lifestyle.

I normally don't care what anyone else thinks, but if someone over here was looking to try something new and saw that review, they'd walk right past the NO section and buy something else.

all opinions are subjective, and he brings up a lot of questions that others have asked on this before, and seems pissed about the wasted opportunity of the box set

makes some good points such as why not have the original "Ceremony"? why have the full overproduced version of "Crystal" and not have the full classic "Perfect kiss"? why have "Slow jam" but no "Thieves like Us"? why have the embarrasing "Run Wild"? why even bother listening to the Club disc all the way thru?

some odd points he makes... dissing the original "Temptataion" completely... stating that the Retro version of Shellshock is 10 times better than the Substance version (i must be missing something here)

would you unconditionally recommend Retro?

ok, maybe 'retro' isn't the best box-set in the history of box-sets, but hey, most of us went out and bought it anyway, didn't we?

...and for the record, i love the club CD (except for 'regret').

Its not that he doesn't rate it much, that's fair enough, its just the weird judgements he makes along the way.
