Since" Get Ready " was such a dismal flop and my previous topic conveyed my less than favourable thoughts on the way their record company have screwed them about by their lack of decent marketing, maybe it's time for New Order to fuck Warners/London off and go it alone with their own independent set-up. Perhaps if they once again managed every aspect of their own product we wouldn't have this pathetic and frankly frustrating situation of different release dates for each fucking format of every new thing they bring out: DAMN! Wouldn't this make things one helluva lot easier for the worldwide fans who, like me, must be pissed off at not knowing if "X" is going to come out this week or next, or if "Y" will be released in this or that format, or it this or that country will get hold of the bloody release first....etc...etc..etc... What the fuck happened to co-ordination? Perhaps the multinational corporate record company scum do this deliberately just to give the fans the runaround.? Well, if so, then, frankly mr. shankly, that joke isn't funny anymore. Who else agrees with me, huh?

As far as I know, they have a multiple-album contract..
Don't know if the best-of/rest-of/permanent and all other stuff like that counts for that record deal, but they can't just walk out of it.
The Best Of/Rest Of WERE the records that they had to make in order to get rid of their contract.
Get Ready is under a new one. I don't know the details.
What are you rambling about? Get Ready is their biggest selling album, Crystal was one of their highest charting singles, you can't pick up a tabloid or broadsheet without seeing ads for the gigs and album.

From an Australian perspective, I think Warners PR on this album has been exceptional. The album is still in the top 40 (it was top 20 for 4 weeks), we have had Tv advertisements, paper and ads in store. I certainly can not remember any previous NO record getting this much of a marketing push.
I think the music press and such like gave the album a lot of publicity. This was partly due to the amount of promotion Barney, Hooky and Steve put in. The fact that the public has such dire musical taste can't be blamed on the record company on this occasion
Well, it's easy to say, but in North America, the album will be out on October 16th only (1 week!!)
Marketing? There is only ONE radio station playing Crystal here in Montreal, as far as I know, but I seriously doubt that the province of Quebec is the best place to put publicity.
The only "thing" that will help New Order, they are scheduled (I still wonder how those thing works) to be at the #3 of the US Dance Chart with Crystal 3 days before the release.. so there is a pretty fair chance to get to #1 there.. but that means for the crappy remixes right?
But again, World did go to #1, I'd like to see it in the Hot 100 for instance!!
Will there be promotion? Well, they did a lot over the web, but a LONG TIME before the album was released, so let's see what will happen, and how will Get Ready chart in the US and Canada.
The import version was available in local music stores, but was so expensive, I didn't even bother...!
I must say that in the UK there were full page ads in all the music press for the album, I even saw big billboard type posters in London, full displays in HMV etc. I can't remember a previous album under Factory getting this much publicity.
Disco boy, Technique had pots of money thrown at it publicity wise, the most for any release on Factory by some considerable distance. 
technique had some great posters - the first band to use proper billboards instead of flyers as I recall. (the new order advertising technique by line was genius too)
Do you remember when Michael Waco Jaco decided to float a ginormous efforgee of his own self down the Thames prior to his Best Of album release in the early nineties?... why didn't they do the same with New Order and float a massive Hooky down the river with his bass drooping over his shoes? - They could have stuck a sign over his forehead saying 'Is the World Getting Ready, because as you can see Hooky is Already Fucking Ready'...

I think that the relatively lacklustre peformance of Get ready is down to the dismal state of the music industry. Unless you are doing gangsta rap, blandyboop pop-cum-tits or new fucking metal you're highly unlikely to get any airplay. And people won't buy what they can't hear.
Where did you get that info from? Get Ready hasn't even gone silver in the UK yet!!! And it's dropped out of the top 75 after only FOUR weeks! Biggest-selling album where exactly? Republic was NO's biggest world-wide seller chiefly (20 weeks in the UK chart) thanks to a big UK radio campaign to plug it (R1 had a "new order day" remember?) and perhaps a more co-ordinated inter-continental release schedule - unlike the fucking messy release of this new one. But it remains NO's blandest album ever. Which says a lot about its success, obviously. And as for Crystal: here's its entire chart performance: 8-26-51-69. Didn't take long for that one to drop did it?

All right, so their Factory tenure didn't exactly balance the books, point taken. However, WEA/London are shit, so maybe New Order would be better off finding another major (like Island/Universal/MCA) who might market them better than the shitty way Warners have done with their recent comeback. There must be a major out there who can do this band justice. WEA/London ain't it. Period.

Reprise Records is about fucking awesome. No really. Their marketing team should give themselves a hand. Great job at advertising New Order to the American market. Anyway...read my little story: I posted on a Smashing Pumpkins board yesterday because I was curious about what Billy Corgan/Smashing Pumpkins fans thought about the NewOrder/Billy Corgan collaboration. Not a single person knew about it. Not one even knew about Get Ready. Only a few knew about Corgan playing with NewOrder during Area One. Every one that replied said they would definitely buy the album, and not just because of the Turn My Way, and asked me when it came out. So come next week, Get Ready just might make #217 on the charts. Go me.

Bastard that he was/is, Tony Wilson at least knew when he had a good thing going. Anyone who'd put up their life savings to record an album/start a label (can't remember which, but know it's one of those two he did) is ten times more preferable to some suits who have no idea what real music is (Are you listening, Warner Brothers?).
