First of all, just to make sure that I'm not misinterpreted, let me tell you that I do think that New Order CARE for their fans -- what I do NOT think is that they are giving the best they can to please these fans accordingly.
When I pay the high price for a concert ticket, especially at the price they reach these days, I EXPECT NOTHING LESS THAN THE BEST SHOW EVER. Of course, that won't happen every night -- but I want to have the feeling that THEY TRIED for this to happen, and that they care to give the best performance they can and leave everyone open mouthed once they leave.
Not only does that include playing for more than 90 minutes, but that include pleasing all kinds of fans by playing all of your big hits, but also your long-time followers by playing older songs and things you didn't play for a while.
And YES, it DOES include having the best lightshow, the best background projections, the best SOUND SYSTEM, and so forth -- when I pay for a concert ticket and when I pay a HIGH PRICE for it, I want the concert to be an OVERALL EXPERIENCE and leave me totally satisfied once I leave.
As a consumer, I think it DOES make sense that I be very happy that, by paying the same amount of money, The Cure will be playing 32 songs (three encores) for 2 hours and 45 minutes like they did on their last TWO tours. I feel like I had what I paid for... while it pisses me off to know that so many people had to pay the same amount, if not more, to see New Order playing 17 songs (one encore) for 90 minutes. The Cure playing a whole set of rarely played and old songs, while New Order has been ignoring a lot of their back catalogue.
You know what? I claim the right to speak against them and not be blindful because of my love for their music for a minute. For some people on these boards, if you do not praise New Order, it's like doing an act of fellony. Well, fook off you lot!
New Order is not a religion!
By saying what I'm saying, I'm underscoring the fact that this band is great and that I'm totally frustrated by the fact that they do not push it to the next level -- the level that would make them FANTASTIC, which they are not right now in my right opinion.
They have the choice to make it better, but that would involve WORKING HARD. Do they still have the time, will and passion to do so? I'd sure like to know that from the horses' mouths.
Seb.
P.S. And YES, I'm a huge fan of The Cure, Depeche Mode and the Pet Shop Boys and I am happy to shout it on every rooftop of this website, and I am not ashamed to be, quite the contrary, even though some of you have something very deep against these bands and have been labelling these as being shite and incredibly cheesy -- but when I speak to people around, they will know about these bands, but often they won't know who New Order are -- some of you will go "Oh, that's cool -- they are so mythical", and I think you are fucking idiots who WISH them to be mythical, but in the majority of people's minds, they might just be an old 80s forgotten band, and whether you like it or not, YOU WILL HAVE TO CONSIDER THAT.
