Shite Pointless New Order Remixes: Enough is Enough!

What is the point of all these two-CD formats if the only reason for their release is to foist more utterly cacky four-four-trancey-arsey-handbaggy-god-knows-what-the-fuck-else-lowest-common-denominator-pappy-wanky-dickwet-brainless-mongbeat atrocities on an already oversaturated market stuffed with similar tepid shite? Remember Paul van Dyk's criminally twatty descecration of "Bizarre Love Triangle" on "The Rest Of New Order" ? After hearing that piece of humming brain-fried shit I certainly left that compilation well alone in order to spare me any more torture.. But, as if the Republic singles and Crystal, and , now, in all likelihood, 60mph, fall prey to this one trick pony of utter bollocks....it's time to ask the gathered masses: should New Order be remixed in this way so that they sound like every other nondescriptly tedious trancey-arse fucker on the planet? Or should the remixes be something a bit different? I've opened a huge can of worms here: let's argue for and against the case of THE BASTARD TRANCEY REMIX!!!!!!

I think it's time to drop a bomb on Ibiza for all the unmitigated shite that has come twelve years in its wake. people just don't seem to know when the novelty has worn thin, do they??

I've heard some good remixes, but the Crystal maxi single (does the world need a nine track cd where 8 of the songs are the same damn thing?) pretty much puts me on the side of the no-remixers. It may have been fun about ten years ago, but remixing tracks, especially classics, is pretty damn old now. Stop the insanity!

Martin , i couldn't agree more with you. In the good ol' days , when 12inch just hit the market this thing started off. Those days the remixes of songs where something special. They where done by proffesionals and they always where something extra and special (mixers like A.Baker).These days any idiot with the right equipment is able to make "remixes " of any fart that comes out. To me , there is no longer an added value to it , like there was in the good old days. But i can imagine there are still people who find it very interesting (can i?).I think that most of the time , there is nothing left of the original recording.

Martin, i'm right with you on this one. Remixing songs well past the point of recognition is nothing less than desecration. Most remixes are complete and utter crap but on occassion they can ADD something to the song, take it to another level or in a new and refreshing direction. The Fire Island Mix of Regret for instance, you know it's Regret, you can just dance to it better. The Hot Tracks Mix of The Perfect Kiss is another song turned into a killer dance track yet basically it sounds the same. It's the ones that sound nothing like the original I can't stand, except the Pump Panel Reconstruction of Confusion that is, now there IS a top tune!!

I agree with Martin on this. Altho I quite like the Lee Combs remix of Crystal.

i just think the days of remixing are pretty much at an end creatively. There's just no need to mess with the classics once you've exhausted every possible variation on the set pattern.

Actually, that was Armand Van Helden.

Paul Van Dyk did the good remix of Spooky (Out of Order Mix)... (not 100% sure it's the right remix, but one of them)

Gosh, I forgot about that one.....that's also on "The Rest Of New Order" isn't it? Is it any good then, cause like I said earlier, I was so put off by the selections I heard from that compilation I didn't bother investigating any further (same with other tracks that were "done" on that LP : "Touched By The Hand of God" and "Age of Consent" to name but two others.....). The Substance 87 rerecording of Confusion left me somewhat....um.....confused....so I'm not sure.

I only get lost in the beat of the records Ian, I dont pay attention to the names really, although i'd probably know them if i heard them. I have a mate who DJ's some of the clubs up here and he bungs me a cd now and then of mixes he's done. It was frustrating as hell both nights at the Barras, Arthur Baker burnin' down the house and I could'nt groove in case I lost my spot.

1 the original song - a 12" masterpiece 2 a 7" edit, or 'radio version' 3 if we're all very lucky, we might stumble across a really rare 'oddball' remix done by somebody who was sought to seek the track out because they love it and they want to add their own spice onto the menu

Nowadays its this 1 Original song with 2 re-mixes 2 4 Re-mixes 3 Another CD with some more re-mixes 4 A 12" with some more re-mixes 5 A DJ only set of wank re-mixes 6 A radio only late night re-mix effort

It's funny though as I was thinking about this yesterday. I mean, that was the point of Substance : the best (and original versions) were the 12 inches. Temptation, EGG, Blue Monday, True Faith, Thieves Like Us. Some of them don't even have a short version.

In a way, the album version if Crystal, apart from that intro, could fit into that definition...

Used 2 totally love remixes, and listen 2 them UNTIL I liked them in some way, even if I thought they were crap! Does that make sense? Nah...but Ruined in a day(Ambient mix & K-Klass Edit), Regret(Fire Island), Vicious Circle (Mike Haas), World (Perfecto), Thieves Like Us (Benelux Instrumental), True Faith (Shep Pettibone), Fine Line, Spooky (Magimix), Round & Round (Club mix), Vanishing Point (Instrumental making out mix)..what's my point? Tons of remixes fail miserably, but sometimes you get good ones! You can usually tell in the 1st couple of minutes. I agree with Muffy that Regret Fire Island is a great mix, but I'd have to say that I've only played (the rest of) about once as the good remixes on it I'd already played to death! The Biff & Memphis, Armand Van Helden, Pump Panel, and Howie B mixes...well nuff said...oh dear

Confusion - Pump Panel Mix is crap.

NO's music shouldn't be altered in any way. It's perfect the way it is.

I think we've gone through all this on another thread before. If they're not putting remixes on the cd singles and such like-what are they going to put on there? It's not like they've got 3 extra tracks to back each single with.

A 12" mix of each single would obviously be nice though-alternatively the band remixing their own singles a la Substance- I think the PSB's did this quite succesfully as well recently-but again it's not going to happen.

As regards a 2 cd set-if you don't like the 2nd remix cd-don't buy it-simple as that. If you don't like the backing remixes-don't listen to them.

i personally quite like New Order remixes. I thought the World, Blue Monday, True Faith, Ruined in a Day, Spooky and Regret remixes on Rest Of were all decent

Lee Coombs' Crystal was also quality-and certainly doesn't fit into the 'trancey bollox' catergory coz it isn't trance.

Blimey, just as well then none of you lot ever heard my original "deconstruction" (no relation to record label) mix of "Hurt" from 1982's mini-lp then, when I was just 16 years old: it sounded like the whole of New Order - and their instruments - falling arse over tit down the emergency stairwell of a silo!! And I also did unimaginable things to Barney's "whoop!!"s throughout........ What fun I had in those days.....just pure gratuitous vandalism simply for the sake of it. Maybe I should try and make it available for you all to hear just to gauge your reaction....ha ha ha......

It's the same here btw. It's the remixers and the DJ's that sent "Crystal" to no.1. Some are doing a good job, not all crap.

It's great. Of course, You don't have to like all the remixes to appreciate what they've done, but somewhat it's a mixed feeling, cos in a way it would perhaps have been better if "Crystal" reached no.1 without any help from remixing.

Anyway: - Here, it was the original that had the no.1 position for five weeks and not the remixes.

Dunno why so many people are wetting their panties over the mixes of Crystal - it's not even one of their best songs is it really? That Warners competition to send a remix of Crystal? Why couldn't it have been any New Order song from the past 20 years? Then it would be REALLY interesting......
