Does anybody know where I can obtain MP3s of the two sets NO recorded for Granada in 1981? I'm a really big fan of early NO, and particularly anything recorded in a studio as against a live environment. Which tracks ended up being broadcast? And , Dear Points of View, Why, oh why, oh WHY didn't Retro contain stuff like this and the Western Works EP instead of all the tracks we already had that it finally ended up with? Not a patch on "Heat and Soul" at all, considering all the stuff that I bet's REALLY out there. Oh, and any chance of the version of "Shadowplay" as broadcast on Granada, too..? Thanks in grateful anticipation...

I've got a bootleg cassette called LIVE TV which features audio tracks performed on TV (no, really 
). There are six songs listed for Celebration (recorded 23rd April 1981, broadcast 18th June 1981) which are 1. Dreams Never End, 2. ICB, 3. Chosen Time, 4. Denial, 5. Ceremony and 6. Truth.
According to the Johnson book, the Order actually played two sets (per Union rules), but whether recorded versions appear of the un-broadcast tracks is unlikely - I suspect some over-zealous person somewhere threw the outtakes away 
Anyway, the quality, aural-wise, won't be brilliant (certainly mono), so these should be easy to transfer to .mp3 as very small files which I can squeeze into some webspace somewhere (I can't really see the point in going above 96 kbps for this).
How many folk would be interested ?
The stuff you have is what was aired on the TV. There were 2 sets, one with 6 songs and one with 7 songs. I think the listings are in the IDEAL FOR LIVING Book. So I'm not sure if they chose the one set, or picked the songs from either set.......it's all confusing innit!:D

Heh ! I went for a smoke and had a gadge at the Johnson book, and amended my original post - you are right : it seems they picked a selection of the tracks from both sessions.
Incidentally, Shug, vid in the post tomorrow - cheers matey :)

Smashin' suggestion mate. I think the Granada Shadowplay is available on this site, actually.
The quality is worse than I thought, but I've soldiered on and made .mp3s out of them any way - it's currently taking an eternity to upload them to Lycos(it reckons an hour for all six tracks 
)
Here we go then, all .mp3s encoded at 96 kbps :

- Denial (5.41) 3.91 MB
- Ceremony (4.59) 3.42 MB
- Truth (4.21) 2.99 MB (sadly this one is incomplete and fades out : you can almost imagine the credits rolling :(
The quality on some is better than others : they were all encoded at the same volume, so I don't quite know why 
The cassette seems to have seen better times, alhough I suspect the original recording wasn't too hot, either.

Thanks for your effort, but when I try to download the files (with Download Accelerator) all files come up with 0 bytes.
There seems to be a problem with Lycos at the moment
Try again in a little while - they are definitely there (I spent an hour uploading 'em)...
I have both sets on audio tape !! Not the best audio recording, but there are versions of Digital and other tracks that weren't shown on the telly. Let me know if you want a copy - I will try to burn it to CD in the next few days and will then MP3 it for everyone.

Well, to be fair, they did bits of Joy Division songs, rather than complete ones, apart from an instrumental of Digital at Celebration TV. The gig where they did the JD soundcheck was Heaven in 1981, again they were incomplete instrumental versions. The Celebration out-takes were mostly songs that were played on the broadcast, it's not brilliant but is pretty rare and collectable.

I've got the Granada 'Shadowplay', but I haven't got any webspace to put it. I could post it to one of the binaries newsgroups, though (either mp3 or shn, whatever you like).
