I'm not one (not a note in me head in fact) but I think it's a smashing idea.

I'd bought a bass guitar because of JD/NO when I was a kid. I could play quite a few songs, they were easy to learn, and they sounded SOOO good. Unfortunately, I've mostly forgotten them by now. It would be nice to contribute if possible though.

great idea! "the NOOL tribute band" :D we could make a compilation and then edit it. don´t know the "legal" terms though. but if we could, we should do it. I´m in! :thumb:

even more. maybe we could make all NOOLers voting for the songs that should be part of it. we upload somewhere all the songs that could be a part of the tribute (20, 30 or whatever) and then we do a poll and pick 13 or 14. it´s just an idea but i think it could work well.

exactly what I was thinking about doing. We can also vote on what we will call the album. I'm going to talk to some of my local record label friends about thism and check what we have to do legally to do this,

Absolutely - I'd love to give it a crack. CTB :bear:

I'm for it :D

Biggest part is, getting the songs...

We can do our own in-house CD, just not selling it for profit SHOULD technically be ok with London..

Then it's a matter of:

  • Mastering (to have the same sound level)
  • Desigining
  • Distributing

This can actually be fun, who knows, maybe an indie label would get interested. (Yeah right)

The only "problem" I can see here is that there is already a tribute to New Order containing 2 NOOL member songs (François-Marc Loze's project), I don't know the status on the tribute, but I sure don't want to compromise their project ;)

A printed CDR with everything would be cool, and this is not really expensive.. we can do a contest to ask people to submit their songs and everything.

Might be interested, but I'd like to know what Mr Shug and Mr Benny think about this... too foolish?

exciting, isn´t it? :jump: about the two fellas that made the tribute we could ask them to do another song specially for "our" tribute. that way they won´t be upset and could collaborate too. it´s all about start receiving songs, and that could start right away. we could put a limit date for sending files and then all NOOLers could vote for the 15 or 17 that would fit in the CDR. about the design. i say the webmasters do it in order to keep NOOL indentity. after all NOOL is the nucleus of the project. so, what do you say? green flag?

Apparently my mates have called me tone deaf after hearing my drunken Kareoke singing. But I would be happy to do the design / artwork, and I promise it will not be Green and White Hoops with the Celtic badge;) A NOOL CD is a great idea Nicos and very feasible, as for tribute CD's.......Francois, get in touch and let everyone know what the latest is with Project 02/03 (there were a few Onliners that took part on the demo I received last year as Nicos pointed out)):thumb: I'm sure Timbo / Jim Reilly / Marty and all those others that can play instruments will be interested.

My best friend in Ohio has a professional sound studio, I could possibly ask him for help. I can alway help with the design. I also agree we should make the design of the CD identifible to this site in some way. So what should we do to kick this off? I guess we should determine which musicians are going to appear on the CD! Looks like we have a few people already. I guess anyone interested in contributing a song should say so now in this thread.

We could possibly use the winners of the survivor games as the song selections. :)

Brilliant idea - I'd be delighted to contribute. Guitar/bass/melodica/vocals/drums/some keyboards (been learning keys recently). Based in London.

You know, while listening to Almanso's songs, I realize how good an unplugged New Order album might be.

Might be the way the tribute should go... unplugged!

i think there´re many new order songs that could be played unplugged. but i really had a difficult time choosing a JD song for that purpose! but with imagination and talent i think some NOOLer will be capable to do it. but it´s a good idea. you know more of tributes than me but i don´t think anyone did an unplugged tribute before. that´s the first thing we have to do. decide if we do it unplugged, electronic, rocker or just free to choose. what do you think? we do our first poll about it?

makes sense to me. but I think an unplugged abulm is a really good idea. There are too many electronic style tributes. so this would be different.

I'm probably more keen on a free-to-choose approach myself. Not to say that I'm exactly Aphex Twin, but I was hoping to have a go at Elegia, which could be underwhelming on an acoustic only! Is it too early to start? CTB :bear:

Wow, that sounds like a great idea!

I play bass guitar, drums, and keyboards...and I also sing. :)

Well, you can try to sell those at the store you work for :evil4:

Well Tim, the idea of accoustic was just an idea, of course it's not the way to go, unless everyone could do it. I was just telling how good an unplugged album would sound, although I'm not sure I could handle them (Regret or Crystal unplugged.. what would Hooky do?! can he play something else than bass? ;) )

well, should we start sending songs?

  1. we´ll need web space for that in order to keep all the songs together in one web page. any volunteers for that?

  2. then we need a limit like june 21th or something. i think 2 months is more than enough to prepare, record and send the songs. that way the project won´t loose its original power. during these 2 months we could decide without rush if we do it commercially or not, who would design it, how many songs would be on the CD, how should NOOLers vote for the winners, etc.

  3. i think the tribute should be free-to-choose-styles. the best results would be with stylistic freedom. and everyone could be envolved so that´s fair for everyone.

well, we need to discuss the terms and start as soon as we can with the project!

I'm up for doing a track for this, if it goes ahead. My keyboard skills are just amazing :)

EDIT: I call "World" !!

Almanso: can the deadline be extended till the end of the summer? See, me and my group will be having exams soon that require a lot of attention and it would be a lot more fun to work on this over our long summer than rather when we should be getting ready for exams.

"World" is all yours, Ben - I bags Elegia, and it's sounding OK so far (started sequencing tonight). I promise to not do the 17 minute version! I am pretty excited about all this, if nothing else it's forcing me to learn more about using Cakewalk and my synth. CTB :bear:

Maybe we first have to organize a little "commitee" to come up with the terms for this project. We'll post the term on NOOL in a poll to see if everyone here is happy with them. Of were not making laws or anything, so the term can be flexible.

So far we have 2 people who already claimed the songs: CTB- elegia Ben- World

Almanso- you never said which one your going to do, but I hope you'll submit your Ceremony.

I'll be happy to provide the webspace your all of you to upload your MP3. I'll set up a public folder on my IDISK. and create a page where you can instantly see your upload and everyone else can download. Just so I can manage the space. I would probably need you all to email me when your uploading and the files size.

After all the submission are in at the determined deadline date. we can hold some poll for all of us to vote which ones we want to appear on the CD.

I would be happy to design the CD, but i guess to be democratic about this project. We can hold a contest for the CD design. and hold a poll for the NOOL to vote on the design.

The committee will organized the production, distribution, mastering, and research the laws for this project.

Ok what do you think?
