Last night

Cracking gig, missed the support but Arthur Baker got things going very nicely thank you madame. Electro Good Vibrations mixed in with Busta Rhymes, he really doesnt care does he? I spent most of New Order down the front in front of Hooky and next to a very polite Japanese gentleman. I thought they were on top form, even though Barney said he was knackered. He blamed it on Bobby Gillespie, who didnt show by the way, so no Rock the Shack. Blinding versions of Ceremony, Transmission and Love will Tear us apart. Encore was pretty disappointing, Ruined in a Day and the most pedestrian run through of Blue Monday Ive ever seen, why do they still bother? Still it was excellent and everyone I was with, all New Order virgins, were blown away. I even bought a T shirt, which I have to say is really nice from the front but I didnt see the back print till I got home. New Order and tour dates written in that fucking dreadful handwriting in glittery silver like some sort of fucking Tina Turner T shirt. Wish I was going tonight.

I don't suppose you could provide me with a full run down of the tracks they played? Unfortunately I consumed far too much alcohol and can't remember a great deal! What I do remember was the shite warm up by onion, I mean Garlic. Just seemed like thrashy US rock. Very poor. Cheers.

Actually look at the night befores set list, take away Rock the Shack and add Ruined in a Day and I think youve got it. Just caught a glimpse of the back of this T Shirt in a mirror, its really dodgy, im putting my coat on.

Tracks were the tried and tested (very testing?) - Crystal, Transmish, Regret, Ceremony, 60mph, KW1, Atmos, Close Range, Touched, BLT, Toothache, Temptation, LWTUA (encore) Ruined, Blue Monday.

Some times things fall into place, quite by chance. Fantastic drink-up in the boozer beforehand which turned into a Who's Who of New Order fans over the past 20 years. Legends, Steve and Jon, who've amassed 200 gigs between them were there. Every little firm seemed to be accounted for - Slough, Sunderland, Portsmouth, Mancland, London, couple of people from Ceremony. And a whole host of neworderonline bods in the area - Messrs Hibbell, Disco, Briggsy, Hooky Monster and the lovely Liv. All that was missing were the Jocks. Even the Germans showed up!

Not gonna say much about the gig. Everything's been said beforehand many times this week. No frills, no surprises, nothing out of the ordinary. New Order by numbers like we've had before. Sound was awful in places - Bernard kept whittering away between tracks but was for the large part inaudible. Only point of interest was that 60mph was recorded for TOTP before the show. Hilite was probably Ruined - like, WOW, they've changed the set! Thank heavens for small mercies.

Why does everybody seem to call "Your Silent Face" KW1 ?

Two reasons :

1. That was the original working title of the song "KraftWerk 1"

2. It's a hell of a lot less characters to type in ! Putting "YSF" wouldn't cut it really now, would it ?

Adam, cheers for that. I nearly purchased one of those t-shirts myself, good job I didn't! At least if you keep your coat on people won't be able to see the lovely silver writing!

Wish I'd gone the pub now, if there were so many people there, instead of going straight to the gig - that's the trouble with living so close, I had my beer at home then hopped on the Tube. I always remember Portsmouth Guildhall in 84, walking in this pub round the corner and it was absolutely full of people who wanted the same from the evening as me, a top NO show to go with the rest on that tour.
