I agree with this; as a package you could buy off the shelf, this has to be one their greatest moments. That they released this utter gem which has touched so many of us, and yet not make it a big deal, is what NO are all about to me. But does anyone remember a one-off tv programme back in the mid 80's (I think it was) about NO and Factory ? I can't remember the name but as it ended they showed NO playing TLU live (could've been in the Hac?) and switched the scenes from the group to a backdrop of Manchester country-side and inner city. If you can imagine the intro with just the drum beat at first and then those majestic synths coming in while we're looking at the hills and woodland surrounding Manchester and then cutting back to an electrifying, tense and almost solemn atmosphere inside the gig, then Barny opening the lines with "I've lived... I've lived... I've lived... " before beginning the song proper. It was just fantastic. All four just playing their instruments as if totally dedicted to the task; Hooky, still, head bowed over his bass and pulsing to the sway of the rythmn, Stephen still sweating from a previous number even though this was an easier one to play, Gillian wearing a frock, one hand leant over the keyboards and the other playing those melodies with all the confidance of a first -timer, and Barney, white t-shirt, shorts, yellow id band, eyes closed and both hands on the mike, trying but failing to look as if he doesn't give a damn. Seem to recall Barney ad-libbing near the end of the song, just before he decides to take off his guitar,drop it to the ground and walk off leaving the others to finish off the song. Genius.

But I have to say my personal favourite will remain Procession. Probably the first NO song I heard, probably courtesy of Peely.

Oh, and although it's a different thread, Shadowplay (live version on Still) for me has to be the most electrifying bass Hooky's played.

Shadowplay recorded at Granada (with the weird video Genlocking) is my fave ever JD track. Jarvo, you must remember this one...

Thieves/lonesome is fantastic! I've got the Murder/Thieves instrumental slipped inside the same plastic sleeve. Would have been released as a double pack today but having the black and white sleeves is a bonus.

New Order's finest musical moment?

Oh God, that's one very difficult, there is so many!!

If I have to stick to New Order, I guess the "extended" part of The Perfect Kiss is probably what it is, because you have all members playing music, and Bernard too.. which is pretty rare live..

Then again, all songs have their "moment", I enjoy SO MUCH the music on All Day Long for instance, Elegia is a pure musical gem...

If we take of a moment as a "group", that would be it.. TPK!

I'd probably pick Atmosphere if I had to pick for Joy Division too, the ending is amazing.. I also like the instrumental bits of Run, but since the lawsuit, I'm not sure I should pick that song too often even if it's one of my favorite...

Nicolas, I have to agree 100% about the perfect kiss part. I was just listening to this with headphones the other day and it blew me away AGAIN! The energy they create to end the track still sends shocks through my body. All Day Long is the Unsung Hero of the Neworder catalogue. The way the synths build, the electro-ish drum beat, the guitar..."this is a song about the innocent..."

Always have, just an irrational thing I guess. Probably stems from them playing it at a gig when I wanted to hear something else in the "5th/6th song slowie bit". I probably had a bet on Lonesome Tonight or something.

Could you give it another chance? Play Lonesome Tonight followed by All Day Long and witnes the joy. Both songs are good but you owe it to your own unknown pleasures to give it a second chance.

Yeah - ALL DAY LONG - one of many gems on BROTHERHOOD that adhered to the indefatiguable New Order blueprint of having a BIG ENDING..... (That's EIGHT SONGS OUT OF TEN on the CD [ including the rather lyrically crap "State Of The Nation" that is]). Which other New Order album has so many Big Endings???

I love "All Day Long" and, as I often said, 'Brotherhood' is my favorite NO album...

All Day Long has, to me, the same kind of musical feeling as Your Silent Face.

Oh Lord!! He Giveth the TRUTH with one hand, but taketh the piss with thine other. "All Day Long" is just wonderful; just a pity the pisspot production that dogs "Brotherhood" clouds the symphonic little gem.

But as for The Shite, Mr Jauncey, never, ever in your life will you be more righteous.

If we're talking Brotherhood then surely As It Is When It Was has to get a look in ?? It's Pure NewOrder. And they seem to reach another state of being when they play this live. This is the only reason I ever put Brotherhood on! (oops)
