why is Hooky the greatest?

because he's cool even when he acts young, though he ain't anymore. and because his throbbing bass lines have been the core of both the JD and NO "sound."
Because he had a mullet in the mid 80s, but still looked cool.
Because he has grown old (dis)gracefully and flaunts his new-found gut around stage along with his trailer-bike bass guitar.
Because his bass guitar sound is completely unique.
Because he now really enjoys himself onstage and seems rejuvenated.
Because he launched the career of Stone Roses by producing Elephant Stone
Because he was cool enough to lampoon his studly persona by being surrounded by transvestites for his "NewOrderStory" video interview.

Great !!! HAHAHAHAHA ![]()
Because he managed to avoid the life of crime that his father, Captain Hook, tried to steer him towards :D

Without Hooky there would be no reason for me (note that's me not you) to listen to NO.

for being in 2 of the best bands ever and never looking like he could give a toss for keeping his balls closer to the ground than any other bassist before or after

For looking like he was about to obliterate you with his machine gun/bass guitar, and not having to dress up to do it (ie all those metal bands of the mid 80s to early 90s with their big getups)

let's not forget the Touched by the Hand of God video! :D
because he pops fans in the head with his bass...and steps on their hands if we dare to put them on the stage!!!!
and he's just a total bad ass!!!
oh...and he was gracious enough to use my lighter once!!!!

Which reminds me...if anyone is in the market for a guitar shaped like a machine gun, my hometown music store has had one in stock for about the last 20 years.
Hurry while supplies last.

Because he introduced the crucial element of mullet to the band as well :D

The guy's a pussycat - I had to get onstage as I wa being crushed and walked straight past him and off with no bother. Mind you, I wonder if he had his back to me at the time... ![]()
Because of THAT interview....!! - was it on Australian TV?? whatever it was it lasted about 30seconds!! Nice one Hooky!! quality!! ![]()
HE IS JUST THE GOD DAMN GREATEST BASS GUITARIST EVER TO WALK THE PLANET.
"MY DREAMS COULD BE YOUR THEME"
Because he's just about the only bass-player in the world who can be instantly recognised, whatever song he's playing.
And because he's been playing bass for nearly 30 years and never become a musician.
And because he inspired me to buy a Shergold 6-string bass when I was 17. It still turns people's heads when I take it to gigs now.
And because he made me realise that playing music was something I could aspire to - that I didn't have to be a virtuoso. If it wasn't for Hooky, I wouldn't be playing music now, 20 years after I first picked up a bass.
Because he can play bass like no-one else and he seems like the kind of guy you could have a laugh with on a night out.
spray painted messages on giant amps? his antics with his hitting board thingy on blue monday? his groin stretching stance?
hooky is god :D

Do you mean THIS interview? :evil2:

There were about 30 seconds of real content but for both parties involved it probably felt about 30 hours long.

I agree. He has an own style, wich was copied by thousand of people. He makes New Order NEW ORDER!
Peter Hook redefined the bass guitar as a musical instrument. Often copied, never bettered. "Hooky bass" is now part of the musical language. How many other so-called bassists can say that about their style?
lol to the interview :D
this reminds me of a stone roses interview i once saw on television, where ian brown was giving one syllable answer. classic ![]()
- Because his bass lines in Joy Division give me the shivers.
- Because he's playing every time as if he's got something to prove.
- Because he did backing vocals in 'Love will tear us apart' I.C.A.
