N.O. Radio?

Me and Chris Nash started our dreamsneverend.com some time ago. What we wanted to do was create a site for fans to download New Order related rarities and lives show from our collection and submissions from others. It's been down for some time now for various reasons, most commonly we're too busy. I've been thinking about what I should do with the site. I just renewed the domain for the next year.

After Kamar Khan New Order night last monday, I've been playing around with the idea of converting the site into a New Order Streaming radio station.

I know there are a couple of NEw Order Net stations out there, but What I like to do Is maybe having some people here volunteer to help me create Shows for the broadcast. I'm thinking maybe having enough shows to fill an 8 hour broadcast would be nice, and upload a new stream every month.

What I had in mind is to create different shows that covers all angles of NO. Kinda like the Retro Box set.

We could have and hour each of the POP, Fan, Club, Live, and have members here to come up with the play list for each show.

then we can be a little creative an maybe create some soft of documentaries and story shows. Imagine Shug's "Touched / From Safety To Where? " narrated story complete with a new order soundtrack to go along with it, Kind of somthing like you would hear on NPR.

With the entries of the Tribute contest coming in, we could dedicate an hour to play New Order Tributes songs.

Of course we need to fit in Joy Division in somewhere and also the side projects.

Basically the stream would run 24 hrs a day and loop over and over again.

I could cover the costs to set this up, but I'm looking for people to help me out with this, and help develop some ideas. If you interested, let me know.

I'd be willing to come up with a set. I am on the road most of the time so a scheduled time commitment would have to be say from 10pm to midnight sometime to monitor the site and maybe take requests if you decide to integrate that type of functionality.

How long would you like a set to last? Would you rather the set be seperate *.mp3's or would you like the set mixed into one long 2 hour block (large file size may eat your RAM) What type of technology will you be using? Are you hosting the site yourself or pushing it from a hosting service? I'd be happy to help with the planning, although I do not do coding. I am more the project manager and application developer/infrastructure person. Great idea.

Thank for offering to do this.

It sounds like a good idea, but you will have to plan it carefully, then get people who are interested to e-mail you, only then can you decide on the format and whether it is worth your time and effort. Unfortunately I am far too busy doing other stuff for various onliners, but I like the idea of picking a set-list etc....Timbo might come in very handy here;) Keep us posted, and have you heard from Chris Nash recently? I have a video for him but I've lost his fookin address:nonono:

I was thinking maybe having a segment where we can feature a NOOL member's top 10 or how a member would arrange the Retro box set. Kind of like what we post in some of the threads. And arrange the set list and play it. We would have a new arrangement each time the station is update.

I talked to chris a few months ago, but he keeps having computer problems. I have his address at home. I'm at work now, so I can email it to you later.

Nice idea, but there could be issues with copyright and broadcasting rights - you wouldn't want to end up having to pay the band for each play of each track, would you ?

It seems like a lot of people are doing internet streams these days and using copyrighted music.

I was thinking of using a site like LIVE365.com where they are dealing with these types of issues rather than putting the songs on my own server to stream. Although, it seems like a lot of retrictions has been placed on live365 recently. Still I think it the best route to go, I listen to live365 stations everyday. Some of the broadcasters there put on some great stuff. I am a bit tick that live365 requires you to become a preferred customer to access all the stations. The station I listen to on there are popular enough that you don't need to be a preferred customer.

Anyways, there are issues to consider, just like the issues I had to deal with when starting the COMMUNITY tribute. So we'll see.

Good point WenOrder, I also listen to Live 365 and in particular I listen to Java Janes World. She has the best overall 80's station that I have heard. I thought of setting up a Live 365 site myself at one point. You move all of the traffic, legal, ethical, and many the biggest issue...bandwidth to their servers.

I do not think that the band would gig us for having a live stream going, it would be the record labels...but it is nice to move the legal issues to the hosting organization.

It is a good idea. From time to time I turn my neworder radio on; this is the address: http://www.neworderbrasil.com/radio/

This is a "shoutcast radio", you'll need a player for listening to the radio. (Winamp or Real Player in Windows OS, or XMMS in Linux OS)

I can't keep it online all day long, 7/week; so it would be nice if you can set up your radio.

well, it looks like it'll be a go! I will contact all of you who volunteered to help privately. I think someone actually tried to do a NewOrderRadio. There was a web site I remember. I dunno what happened to that. like I mentioned before, I'm gonna use my dreamsneverend.com domain for this project. I was thinking about using my newordercommunity site for this, but I don't want people to think it's gonna be another fan site like NOOL or WIM

I am looking for more ideas and volunteers also. Let me know if you interested.
