Got a CD of early New Order pics thru' from Mr Solitude himself, so am hosting them short-term for him. Some quality snaps in here! Couple of '84 gigs that Peter can't place the venue though - anyone got any ideas? The glitterball in one should really jog some memories!

Oh, and apologies for the cheesy 'Everything But The Girl' style pic of Mr & Mrs Solitude from 1989 but it was on the disk Peter sent me so I couldn't resist using it!

Here Are The Young Men (And Gillian!)

Enjoy!

i think i speak for most when saying its a good job Barney keeps his t-shirt on these days (Hooky take note, a beer gut should be hidden!).

Wow, what a fantastic set of pics, thanks Pete and Al - much more interesting that the official ones of the era - lots of Barney near nudity going on!

Wish I had been old enough to be there!

Pete you look very cool and 'handsome' on that first one!

Glad to see you made it out of Brighton alive, Al!

Really? It's alright my end, though, worryingly, a little slow. New blueyonder account, first time I've used this webspace and I've just about filled it in one go!

Yeah, we made the mistake of thinking we had to get the Preston Park train back into town though, when I guess the bus would've sufficed? P was a little scared cos lots of our chaps sat around us were phoning your lot 'for a little meet' though I believe it all passed off peacably outside. The police certainly seemed to have it under control and were ID'ing and video'ing anyone remotely suspicious on the way back to the station.

Bank holiday though. I would've expected a few Mods and Rockers. :(

It's working now, only a temporary glitch. Nice pictures.

Train was the right way to go. All the busses were going to the park and ride. You'd probably still be waiting now for one into town.

Didn't hear of any trouble, just the one guy who got twatted (by a policeman, allegedly) either in or around Wetherspoons. Let's face it, when it comes to Hardest Firm, I think The Albion are a loooooong way down that list. Still, what else would fifty thousand cops do on a Bank Holiday...

nothing cheesy about mr & mrs solitude's picture, it's lovely. So is Barney with just his shorts on :love2: then again I wouldn't want to see him like that now :faint: thanks for sharing these with us

Ola from Majorca, thanks Al for putting these up for NOOL for everyone to see these photos.

I took Walthamstow 81, Brixton Ace 83, Chippenham 84, Southampton 84? and some of the Hacienda 83. Credit to the person unknown who took the others.

Al, myself and mrs Solitude a bit peeved that you put our photo up but as I said to the mrs, time has not been kind to us sadly!.

Anyway guys, look after yourselves.:)

Love the pics, Al - thanks for that! Can't name the other gigs, but between 84 and when I saw them ath the RAH, Barney really put on weight...

He and Hooky got their shirts off then too... Gillian didn't...

Yeah, thanks for putting these up Al.

Interestingly, Peter is seen playing a customized Gibson EB-2, a precursor to his Eccleshall, in a few of these. Haven't seen that before.

No worries, thought it was kinda sweet though!

I've updated the site to include a more up-to-date piccie of the 'appy couple! ;)

Reduced a few gig pics as well, cos they were huge and I'd filled, like, 95% of my total webspace!

Chars.

Great pictures Peter, cheers (& Al too). Note everyone's sitting down in the RFH pictures so it's in the first half of the show.

Check out RFH top row, second from left, just one photographer at the front so I was probably on my way down to the front to join him right at the moment that one was taken. Stood in front of Hooky and reeled off a whole film. Must dig those snaps out ...

It seems that Barney's wondering more about how he winded up in his shorts on stage. Usually, the performer is advised to picture the audience in their underwear rather than the audience seeing the performer in his

Its Funny,Because Barney wears the Same T-Shirt (Southhampton),that Hooky wears on PFD:laugh:

Shug, do not remember seeing him backstage, probably busy with groupie(s). Gillian poured me an orange juice, must have seen me salivating at her!..

Off on wednesday to see Real Majorca versus Zaragosa. Should be good.

See ya

I reckon the unknown 84(2) may in-fact be Bournemouth 12/83.

You were there, weren't you? Could be right, cos I've got a vid somewhere and think Barney was in a white shirt at that one?

Yes, the blue drape curtains at the back are the giveaway.

I think Hooky looks more like a Frank than a Peter with this coiffure.

I used to have a great poster of Barney in full swing with his shirt off - I take it this was a regular occurence circa '83-'84??

Nah, did not go to that one but had a sneaky suspicion it was Bournemouth.

I think that the 'Southampton 84 is actually Birmingham Tower Ballroom 85. I took these. What I remember about Southampton was the dissapointment after picking up my photos, remember that they were mostly underexposed. There wasn't a decent photo amongst them. The photos purporting to be Southampton are generally exposed correctly.

The other 'unknown' set I think come from the summer of 84. Possibly Leicester, Nottingham, Bristol or Birmingham.

What do you think of the mult-exposure photo from Brixton Ace?, really gutted that the camera jammed as that roll of film would have produced some excellent close-ups.

The other unknown isn't I believe Birmingham Powerhouse, the white curved ceiling isn't how I remember it, very dark with pillars if my memory serves me correctly. The Southampton ones could be the Tower as Barney and Gillian look more "Lowlifish". However, no sign of the plastic palm trees :D

"Southampton" isn't Birmingham Tower 85 - there's a melodica in use on the one photo (14), and they didn't play anything using a melodica that night. Unknown 2 is Bristol 84 - on the last photo they are playing Dreams Never End (only song with 6-string bass and two guitars without keyboards), and this is the only show they played it at from the ones listed as possibles.

Good spot Tim, Could be I am a confused old git, I have a complete set of photos that I didn't send Al as they were all underexposed, it might be that they are the Birmingham 85 photos. I will check them out for palm trees!

Palm trees were all behind the standing area though, so unless you turned round to survey the crowd you wouldn't get them ! Incidentally, have started work on copying those 84 shows to CD - St.Austell is rather good !

OK, I'll check 'em out. Look forward to the CDs, my old friend Danny who is pictured with thumbs up at Chippenham (standing next to Phil Mitchell with hair!)tried to purseade me to make the trip to St Austell with him but I declined, felt it was too far to travel
