Does anyone know where the vocal sample on this track comes from? or what he is saying? it sounds like "can't help me" at the end, not sure about the beginning though?

I asked Johnny Marr the very same question for an online Q&A at www.jmarr.com a couple of years ago. He basically said 'Good question, I'll have to have a little think about that one'.
He's still not got back to me though ;)

I always heard it as "Free the life in me", but that would be pretty banal. Saying that I always that Regret's "It's the school exam and the kids have run away" was "And the schoolies and the kids have run away"!
