Mine would be Sub Sub's "This Time I'm Not Wrong" because I love Barney's vocal and the suitably rocking backing provided by soon-to-be Doves. Having said that Beat Club's "Security" and ACR's "Won't stop loving you" definitely stand out as quality early-90s dance records for me with the 12" mix of WSLY sounding like a stripped back and hypnotic drum machine test; nice one Barney!

The Chemical's "Out Of Control" isnae bad either and probably Barney's most famous collaboration outside of New Order/Electronic. A timely reminder (before Get Ready) of how great New Order could be even though it wasn't a New Order record! On the other hand I don't really care for his bizarre jam with Primal Scream  too close to Rock The Shack territory for me.

It'll be interesting to see what everyone thinks of Barney's various collaborations outside of his two main bands :)

Out of Control- I couldn't stop percolating to the intro beats (it's a dance move)

although I really like Security and Out of Control, for me This time I'm not wrong is absolute tops! I love the lyrics, the music, the video, the lot ...

I like Section 25's From The Hip-album, which was produced and some tracks co-written by Barney.

Primal Scream's Shoot Speed Kill Light is one of their finest moments. Excellent guitar from Bernard (as reprised on Rock The Shack of course).

part of the greatest appeaL has just been to see what choices he's made where, with what type of project he gets involved in. sometimes not sure what to think but the feel is invariably good. mint quality..

edit-the versions/ options would make quite a mixed mp3.

What about Marcel King's Reach for Love?!

Barney's production (along with DoJo) is pitch perfect soulful electro boogie. The sound of a hot summer's night in 1984.

Lovely, lovely track, it's up there with Security, Won't Stop Loving You, and Looking from a Hilltop.

Yep- There's a lot of Barney heavy Bemusic stuff missing from the list...

Personally I loved those albums he did with Curtis, Hook and Morris...

:evil4:

...seriously though... it's either OUT OF CONTROL or SHOOTSPEED/KILLLIGHT.

Not heard the SubSub thing, which I'd love to get hold of as AINT NO LOVE AINT NO USE is one of my all time fave dance tracks!

The BeMusic artists weren't included in the poll options for the following reasons:

  1. I couldn't be arsed typing out 2 albums worth of song titles along with the current list; once a poll goes beyond ten options it gets a bit silly. If your favourite Barney collaboration happens to come from either BeMusic compilation then feel free to vote for "Other (?)" and, if you like, post briefly which one it is.

  2. BeMusic wasn't just Barney, it was an alias used by all four members of New Order with Hooky using it in the first instance. Not to say Barney wasn't responsible for a sizeable chunk of the music on the BeMusic compilations of course.

Hope that clears that up...

I just discovered 808 State a few weeks ago, and I adore "Spanish Heart"! Barney's lovely voice and quintessentially-Barney lyrics in conjunction with 808 State's juicy chords are simply awesome.

She's out of control I'm afriad. it is great. Though Barney's vocals are editted - but not completely - Sasha's Dub is brilliant. Alas it is only available on blue vinyl on the US Promo. Well worth hunting down mind.

I did a conversion of the 12" Sasha Club Mix (the Mix on the CD single is an Edit) to CDR when I bought it back in 99 but haven't heard the Dub.

I bet it's available on some massively expensive promo CD somewhere :(

CD jp 1999 Virgin VJCP-61028

1-01 Chemical Brothers Out of Control Radio Edit 3:58
1-03 Chemical Brothers Out of Control Sasha Remix 7:18
1-04 Chemical Brothers Out of Control Sasha Club Mix 11:01
1-05 Chemical Brothers Out of Control Sasha Instrumental Mix 13:25

:shades:

Probably also on some compilations, I would imagine?

good work Nick.

forgive my misinformation it is the "Sasha Instrumental mix" and not a "Dub" mix. Even then a fair portion of Barney's vocals survive. The mix is available also on the US Promo Blue vinyl ASW PRO 9930. The mix comes in at 13:22 so a full 2:22 longer than the 11:00 Sasha Club Mix.
