Ever since I saw Electronic perform at Wembley Arena in December 1991 I have always wondered if they played everything live or whether they used backing tapes for keyboard parts, rhythm sections, etc.
I seem to remember the music that night being bang on (which you dont normally get when NO (or should I say Barney is involved)). Some of the singing was offkey and the ticket itself stated "Electronic do not use backing tapes" but Im not convinced.
Can someone clarify for us please?
When they did Get the Message on TOTP it was an absolute joke. They had people on steel drums who were tapping away and the sound was completley different -they missed all the rolls and all that yet hey presto they were there. As for live in other places - I have no idea.
TOTP might be an exception - everyone seems to fake on that show.
TOTP was mimed Mil - there were no live parts to it.
As for the gigs themselves, I'd be surprised if backing tapes were used, cos the live show was very poor and it didnae sound like anything was in tune

It said on the ticket that "Electronic do not use tapes"
if you go on 1990 Electronic gigs on this site, there is a photo of a ticket stub that backs up the No Tapes
I would be surprised if they didn't!
At Cities in the Park i'm sure some musicians were helped out and at their first gig at the Hacienda i seem to remember tapes being used there. Sound at Wembley was definitely poor - but I thought the gig was actually their best.

That was a lovely ticket too. And I lost it.
I did a review of that gig in Paradise at the time which, I think, went, "Electronic do not use tapes. Bollocks." and, for some reason, Paradise inserted a new paragraph before the word "Bollocks" so it didn't make sense. I remember hearing Tennant's vocal on 'Disappointed' so, for me, that means they used tapes, whether it was sequenced, or whatever, it was a vocal which weren't exactly live.
Funnily enough, the bird I was with that night got married this week. I only remembered she was getting married in July today, so sent her a message saying Good Luck and got an autoreply saying she was on honeymoon already. Oh well, it's the thought that counts.
When I saw them at Dodger Stadium opening for Depeche, they were clearly using tapes, sequencer, whatever as there was one point, can't remember the song, where no one was by the mic, however you could hear the vocals. Barney, subsequently, lunged for the mic to 'catch up'. Was still a good show. I remember quite a few people were discussing this after the show.

I've never attended one, so I can't say for sure, but I have a recording of Bernard singing "Disappointed", and at one point, you can clearly hear the part in the background where Neil sings "dreaming~" or whatever. (Neil was not at this particular gig, by the way, hence, Bernard was singing this song.)

Hey Jarvo, correct me if im wrong but the Barrowlands gig,
it was Barney on the vocal duties for "Disappointed if I remember, and he sounded better to, It would have been a better release if Barney done the vocals on the record, dont you think
Apparently according to Moist over on Cerysmatic factory for the "cities in the park" gig the band had the choice of 2 live sets, and they opted for the set which was computer orientated and they used a backing tape, rather than going for the bare live sound.
ELECTRONIC DO NOT USE TAPES.
Though they don't say anything about throwing bernards vocal tracks into the old computer (much like they still do with Regret).
As long as he is not lip syncing (like he use to do for the deep voice on fine time, which drove my up the f&**& wall) I don't care.

Am i the only one who read the tickets as,"No Tapes" to mean "Dont Fucking Bootleg Our Gig You Cunts"?
Anyone willing to post the Bernard on vocals version of Disappointed?
Electronic...........Cities in the park......DAT......cos we were going to swap the tapes in true band fashion.
