Promo CDR + DVD for the Electronic Best Of — Forum Archive

Basically, the average Electronic fan will have pretty much everything on this. From listening to the CD-R this afternoon I've discovered the following:

The sound doesn't seem to be remastered (might change for final CD)
Imitation Of Life is the 5:59 version here, no edit! (again, might change)
Get The Message (single mix) is the withdrawn 7" mix!
Total time clocks in at 60:56, leaving 19 minutes spare

It has to be said that this CDR might not have the finalised tracklisting as a new one has appeared on Amazon.co.uk which adds Prodigal Son and Second Nature to the mix. That certainly makes it a bit more of a rounded compilation as they're both quality tunes :nod:

Finally, the sound and picture quality on the DVD is mostly excellent, it's just a shame they've left out the treasure trove of material Shug covered on his (far superior) release :nonono: 7 promo videos and that's yer lot!

Hmmmm. We can only hope that newer tracklisting will prove to be the final version. Well, at least we have Shug as the tightener-upperer of loose ends to get the "complete" Electronic scope.

Thanks for the update, Ally. I'll still expect it to be a present from a friend and not my own purchasing that'll bring this to me, because after Shug's (& Co.) effort, I'm a happy gal.

It's fookin great that this has been released, but it does look a bit half fucking arsed.

I have extremely limited technology (Nero 7) and a shitey old DVD Recorder / Video, so I had no sound or picture editor, I could have had so much fun with the menu's and visual's if I was let loose with proper technology. I FAR prefer the covers that Rich put together for my double DVD Project as well.

Having said all that, I'll be one of the first to go out and buy it on it's release. Cheers for the grabs Ally :viking: :beer:

Yeah, really. The US gets crap treatment as far as extras go. I want to know one thing: Is the DVD regionless? If I order it I better be able to play it!

Don't quote me but the promo DVD seems to be regionless.

Besides, with all the workarounds and chipping these days does regioning really bother anyone anymore? :eek:

I've got a region 2'd DVD-RW on my PC but can watch anything with AnyDVD running in the background :nod: and frequently do!

Which Single Mix? Today I've checked all my versions and it seems the discography isn't correct on these versions. So far I "discovered": German 7" / UK 7" have both the 3:47 mix... German cd-maxi / UK cd-maxi have both the 3:55 mix...

So I wonder which mix has been disapproved: :confused2: 3:47 3:55 4:07

By the way, I would like to see a commercial release of the DNA 7" mixes... I've never heard these...

Two of the mixes here are most likely identical. 7 seconds difference is not much and could easily be explained as extended silence or for the shorter timing cutting out abruptly after the fade-out.

There are 4 official 'edits' of Get The Message:

Get The Message (Disapproved 7" Mix) - 3:57 Get The Message (Approved 7" Mix) - 4:08 Get The Message (DNA Groove Mix Edit) - 3:42 Get The Message (DNA Sin Mix Edit) - 3:58

The Disapproved 7" Mix is featured as the soundtrack to the GTM promo video. It is a straight edit of the album version, no new sections whereas the Approved 7" Mix on FACD287, the US Maxi-CD, the German CD single, live performances etc. is the most commonly known among fans (and IMO the best). It is arranged differently and slightly remixed.

Oh well, it's nice to have the "disapproved mix" on an official CD at last.

a quick web search using terms such as dvd and region free should see you right. there are region free hacks for most dvd players.

Just been checking again, but the only cd 7" version I got is 3:53 (there are 2 seconds of silence on the cd, but the track runs only 3:53 and is similar to the vinyl, which is probably spinning a bit too fast on my turntable...)

These are the cd's I got: Facd287 - blue sleeve with orange '2' (3 tracks), there is a tiny little handwritten sticker on the case which said 'promo', but the sleeve or label are I think just the regular one. It's 'mastered by Nimbus' and has the inscription (= right word???) FACD 287 with three tiny dots, like this :-

The German cd, red with yellow '2', cat. nr. 663 849 - 211, has 6 tracks and plays the same 7" version as the UK pressing.

Well, if your UK cd plays an other edit, we have different copies :) So, I would like to hear the 4:07 edit... that is still "disapproved" to me :nod:

Ahhhgrr... even more confusing... :angry:

My UK 7" has the matrix # "FAC 287/7 A2", but is not a white label promo, but the fuchsia sleeve/label with an orange '2' and has cat.nr. Fac287/7 and plays the same version as the Facd287 I got... only a bit too fast, which explains a difference of 5 or 6 seconds.

By the way, the German 7" (green sleeve, yellow '2') has also an extra '2' in the matrix: "104 113849-1 A-2". The label says this version has a running time of 4:05, but plays in fact the same as the Facd287 version (3:53)...

I guess, most of the people who put all the info in the various discographies didn't actually 'listen and compare' to the versions on the vinyl or cd's, but only checked the label/sleeve credits... It seems most of the info on the German releases aren't correct. So, I wonder if there's really a disapproved edit? If so, it might be in my opinion the 4:05 version... :shrug:

I was furious when I found out. It doesn't have a PAL decoder!

Are you not getting these two versions mixed up? I have the Factory CD single of Get The Message, and it's the 3:53 version, which is simply an edited album version). Surely, therefore the "approved" version?

I was in a pub once and heard a completely different single version (that was on some "Now That's What I Call Music" compilation, or similar). It started with an acoustic remix of the instrumental middle section, before going into the regular edit - if I remember it correctly. I always remember preferring this arrangement, as it sounded quite a dynamic intro to the song. I'd assume this was the "disapproved" version, and that it appeared on the compilation in error, as I'd never heard it in this form on the radio or on any UK formats when it was released. Always wished I could get hold of it though, and hope this is the version that will appear on this compilation.

Incidentally, is 'Feel Every Beat' the original album version, or The Beatmasters seven inch mix?

To my knowledge, Sony DVD players can not be hacked. Ours even has trouble playing DVD-r's. We bought a $40 DVD player from Target (CYBER HOME CH-DVD 320) and it plays everything, with no issues of quality, either. The hack code (via remote control) was easy to find on the net.

I'll check my Factory CD single tonight but from memory I do remember it being the 4:07 version on Facd287; will find out and report back later. Does the version you're talking about start with Marr's lone acoustic guitar or a synthesiser/bassline intro? In my reasoning, the latter is the "Approved" 4:07 mix and the former is the "Disapproved" 3:57 mix.

Original album version with the 50 second fade in intro which sounds vaugely ridiculous appearing halfway through an album. They should've used a remastered US Album Edit.

Ok, I've given my Facd287 a listen and if your track 1 (Get The Message 7") is clocking in at 3:53 then we must have different Factory CDs. It's definitely the 4:07 version on mine which is the same mix as the ones on the Warner Bros. Maxi-CD and the Virgin CD single.

The 4:07 starts with a synthesiser/lazy drum beat break and has quite a different arrangement to the album version. Whereas the 3:53 on this Best Of CDR is a straight edit of the album version with the odd bit chopped out here. This is the "disapproved" version the band quickly recalled isn't it?

I'd say, you got yourself a very rare Facd287 copy! Have you listened to the German Virgin release already? I find it still very odd, all my 4 different releases have the same 3:53 version... and now it will be also on the Best Of... :shrug:

Any chance you could send this 4:07 mix? :bow:

Well, I too have FACD287, and it's definitely the 3:53 edit album version on there - which is what I always assumed was the "approved" version.

So, there are two different pressings of FACD287 then??? Can anyone elaborate. Do I have a rarer version of it?

Have a look at http://www.neworderonline.com/Music/Release.aspx?ReleaseID=68 and you'll see that lists FACD287 as having the 3:55 "alternate" 7 inch version.

Could we simply be talking about a UK seven inch mix, and a different US seven inch mix?

Wonder if there are two different versions of FACD287 - and if there's anyway of telling them apart by sight?
