bitter sweet now I need to get another version of For You and Get the message. At least there is more out there

Oh yeah, and there's absolutely *NO* difference between the UK sleeves/CD's as to which version is on the CD... The only way of telling which one you own is to play it!

What this proves yet, I don't know, but it may be interesting to find out from everyone that owns either a UK or German CD single, which mix they have?

As I only got the 3:55 versions, I also bought another one... and I got lucky: now I got also the German 4:08, which has indeed a different matrix number! So I guess the UK versions should have some differences as well...

The very idea of a best of disc for Electronic is rather incredulous given they only ever gave a handful of live gigs. Too boot, the release of their 1st single "Getting Away With It" penned in the late 1980's arrived coincidentally at their pentacle. They have certainly penned additional great songs - Disappointed, When She's Gone, Twisted Tenderness, Second Nature, Feel Every Beat, etc. but they never got any better. Like New Order, they got the max out of the minimum. I bought every single and CD as they came out in high hopes, and expectation of a sound that never quite jelled. They were paradoxically, and simultaneously, both more and less. Quizzically, their stubbornness served well and also hurt as they provided beats to the folly of youth.

Extensive research will show Raise The Pressure took years, not months, to write and complete as Karl Bartos slid into jolly England as early as 1993 to hoist pints and help bang around the old key boards with Barney and Johnny as the good buzzes got going, going great.

I loved their music but never play any in the company of others, especially the RTP album. TT could have been great, and the initial eponymous album was/is. I still have the lot, and can't figure why I would keep this stash. I have no interest in eBay auctions, sharing collections, and seldom listen to any of it. The possible purchase of this new stateside release would be silly and rather dubious. As I crank out a "remember when" on this forum I now realize why I embarked on this wordy worthlessness and wonder.

Things in life never happen as you wish or expect. Electronic had a window in time once to be tremendous. Perhaps they were too busy enjoying the fruits and plenitude from their other endeavors to be bothered writing much music. Perhaps their lives were too rich. Most great music comes out of the darkness of need, the poverty of little, the excess of desire, and the naivety of it all. Perhaps they were living so large, essence, inspiration, ideas, and sustenance shunned them like a rare disease.

The bands they influenced have gone on to do this type of thing better, and the concept of this CD seems odd in it's timing. It's not like the market is clamoring for old Electronic material. This smacks of a certain commercialism the band once fought hard to keep at a distance. As the world spins further into madness I think Time Will Time or Flicker could soundtrack this moment and confirm a finality. It's more akin to an obit or epitaph of a band. They were good. Often sublime. Occasionally great. They could have been so much more. Dust to ashes, there's nothing more to get away with.

A closing note. In the media savvy age of instant information, the thirst for tidbits exceeds the quest for knowledge and education. Barney stands at two unique thresholds. He helped pen and compose the first great song of a decade in Love Will Tear Us Apart as Joy Division. He also closed out the same decade with the second best song 10 years later in Getting Away With It as Electronic. Long live the 80's and his royal new orderness.

After the last door closed....not even such stalwarts and luminaries such as the Beatles, Bob Dylan, Elvis Presley, the Clash, or David Bowie can lay claim to the same feat. U2 could be a possible maybe.
