If Monaco were to release an anthology-type compilation...

...what would you like to see on it?

This is purely speculative of course as no firm plans have been announced but it's a good chance for fans to say what they would like to see on such a compilation. Monaco had more songs and far more actual chart success than Revenge so an anthology of some sort can't be out of the question.

I can quote Hooky directly from the recent Hard Rock Cafe reunion that he was currently in the process of "buying back the rights" for the Monaco stuff (presumably from Polydor or Papillon) and would "have something for us soon".

Going by the standard 2 CD layout of OTPV2.0 I'd love to see the first disc cover all the best Monaco tunes (including choice b-sides) in one place and remastered.

The second disc could mop up:

- Single mixes / Remaining B-sides- Early demos such as Glass Box, Smoothie, 2nd album demos etc- Obscure remixes I.e. Sweet Lips (Joey Negro East Coast Groove).- More from the '97 GLR session that gave us Tender.- Live material including T In The Park '97, Glastonbury '98 & Melkweg 2000.- Monaco's version of Failures; a regular during the US '97 gigs.- Tim Burgess & Monaco playing Lonesome Tonight in '97.

If Hooky and Pottsy are working on such a compilation it certainly wouldn't hurt for fans to suggest what they would like to hear  I think it would be a shame if we ended up with another "Get The Message" type compilation with absolutely nothing new or of real interest.

Nice one! Hooky and his stash of gigs is legendary anyway so there have got to be some cracking Monaco performances in there. Any personal favourites, Paul? The 10+ minute version of Junk from Glastonbury '98 is defo one of mine.

I've got an interesting audience recording of the El Rey theatre gig in LA from August '97 which has a cracking version of Failures... Hooky introduces the band one by one during the outro.

A cleaned up recording would be smart :thumb:

Yes! You Should Be Dancing must be included - and I'd love to hear that live version of Junk.

I'd love to see some of that as my Hard Rock gig was my only real experience of Revenge/Monaco. Let's see what happens:wink: Cheers!:thumb:

I like to hear a live song from the recent gig.

My request would be:

ALL THE B-SIDES!

As I'm missing some and I've yet to hear one track by Monaco that I don't like. Why the hell electronic didn't do this still eludes me... although that wasn't so upsetting as I had all their BSides.

I would love this and if any influence can be exerted ;) lets get it on!

well I won't hold my breath. But I missed out on 'Microbes' etc plus You Should Be dancing.

Hooky released "Microbes" renamed "Pumpkin" on CD 2 of the One True Passion V2.0 compilation so you can find it there. Had it down as more of Monaco sounding track personally (got that Trip Hop feel of Billy Bones) but Hooky obviously wanted it out under the Revenge banner.

"You Should Be Dancing" is on the "Gotta Get A Message To You" Bee Gees tribute CD from Polydor. Reasonably easy to find dirt cheap on Google/eBay but beware - there's an awful lot of shite on it.

I'd wished I'd been of a right mind to tape the gigs I went to - that whole year of following bands is a giant blur!

:evil4: But, if they could see to it we got a jam cd of alternate takes/noodling about in the studio I'd be really happy. Live stuff would never been frowned upon, either!

... Cheers! Didn't know Microbes = Pumpkin. My biology teacher will be bemused.

Happy with what we've got. Nowdays i'd rather hear new stuff than edits/remixes of songs i've already got on half a dozen CD's already.

I'd want all those demos that were released on the website and the B-sides to "I've Got A Feeling".

I've never heard any of them... :(

Question: Re: If Monaco were to release an anthology-type compilation...

Answer: It would be another waste of money for die-hard New Order collectors who collect anything that is related to New Order.

Indeed*!*

just release the freakin unreleased tracks & mixes, some VIDEOS as bonus, as well as b-sides. there's no need for a compilation.

Er, before you chuck all of your toys out of the pram did you actually read the first post?

I suggested everything you wrote so not exactly sure why you've given this response unless you didn't read it.

Compilation can mean live and rare tracks... jeez... :brow:

I didn't ever pick up the sophomore album, so the cream of that album would be welcome, along with the Bee Gees cover that I never even heard.

Where was the Tim Burgess version of Lonesome Tonight recorded ? If it was for tv is it on Youtube ?

If I have one wish for this type of project it's that it's handed over to James Nice to curate. A quality end product is then assured.

pointless, put out another album... that would be interesting, but hidden tracks? Hell NO can't even do it well for the remasters.....

With Hooky trying to finish off Freebass and constantly DJing I somehow don't think Monaco will be hitting the studio any time soon. Not to mention, Pottsy has his solo career and gigging on the go.

If you take a look at the Revenge One True Passion V2.0 compilation from LTM you'll see that Hooky has produced a worthy reissue of his previous work at least once. That compilation had it all: remastered, b sides, demos, rare mixes etc.

I wouldn't write off a Monaco reissue just yet... a 2 CD "V2.0" release combining the best of each album, the bsides, demos, live etc is a definite possibility; the material is there.

Monaco deserves a bit of a full stop just as Revenge got.
