No Italian for me please (sorry Mick) except TOLDO , Italian food and Italian cars. ;)

Yeah I think the problem is I grew up speaking Italian, so I never had to really learn it from scratch, while I had huge problems with Latin at school (Ancient Greek is easier!)... that's because Latin languages have a lot of useless rules... Spanish and Rumenian are a different deal, because they weirdly sound much more similar to Italian than French or Latin, so you don't actually learn them, but still you manage to guess something here and there...

Hey Maya, you don't need Italian, you have your excellent English... I thought former Parma goalkeeper Buffon was sexier for girls than Toldo...

Still, I find it funny, because the Italian (huge) community in Montreal speaks english all the time, so I'm not used to see Italians having problems in english ;)

Also sat TV is not as common as in other countries. For example in Holland everyone knows 3 or 4 languages because they get all the foreign channels, here very few people have sat TV, and it's mainly to receive Sky's Italian channels...

actually, I'd prefer to see them be better in french, but that's life eh? ;)

*Uh, don't expect anything with French, I tried to learn the fookin language when I was a kid, but gave up because it was too fookin difficult, and honestly (no offence I hope) it sounds horrible too. ;) Come on, all those final accents! And THAT "R"!!! English is easy and pleasant, it should be known worldwide and be the official language of Europe. Then everyone can keep their own languages of course (and you can keep French), I wouldn't want to force anything, but there's no competition between English and French. My sister is very good at French (she's an actress and toured France for months) and adores it though, so to each their own...

BTW Maya, Gilberto was trying to say he'll have to go through fookin touts to get tickets and joked about your knowledge of English meaning you're so good you could even speak Canadian (which of course does not exist).

I was informed recently that the feminine and masculine 'tricky' element of the French language is something that you either know, or you don't. I wonder if Sprinkler can expand on this theory?

From how I see it, an English version would run something like this ...

The cat sat on the male chair, he was an old cat who enjoyed walking around the female garden searching for mackerel.

A foreign language is best learnt in bed. At least that's what I've been told.

Rorschach, that's probably because in the old forums you had to upload the avatar from your PC but now all you have to do is type the correct URL address of your pic.

* Same for me of course, though I wish I studied some "in bed" too (and why not in Maya's)... ;) Well, at least I learnt some regional dialects (from the North, the Centre and the South of Italy) following that kind of courses! :D I think they're very interesting and the whole school system should be rebuilt on that method... I wouldn't have been so bad at Maths if learnt it in bed! ;)

And of course, I "got it" much faster when I was watching my movies in english instead of the french translation...

True about the DVDs Mick though I keep trying watching the movies without subtitles, the best way to improve your English.

Oh yes, definitely, but I always miss those few words once in a while and if I read the text I already know what they're saying and I pay more attention to how they say it rather than merely trying to understand what they say, so I guess both methods are good, though not as the "in bed" method... ;)

Do you also find Americans easier to understand than Brits?
