Someone Like You

Am I alone in thinking this is a fantastic song? its my favourite off Get Ready. What do others think as this song is hardly ever mentioned. Is it Gillian doing the backing vocals?

Sorry to disagree but Its one of my less favourite Get Ready tracks. I do like the build-up to the vocal & the first verse & the guitar in the bridge aAND of course Hooky's solo - but the 'chorus' & the oohoohooh bits really let it down for me.

this song did not need this awful chorus...

at the beginning, it did not get on my nerves, but now I am afraid to confess that I skip this song...

i like this song a lot--including the chorus. i'd put it below close range, slow jam, and crystal. i know that sounds like a lot of songs to follow, but i think get ready is a strong album and barring run wild i don't skip through any of the songs. i enjoy the backing vocals and i think it's a strong track.

in fact, i'd say the chorus is one of the stronger parts of the songs--beginning with 'we're having the time of our lives.' it sounds like what they wanted to do with republic, but couldn't quite achieve. top song, i say.

Not at all it may be the best but the entire album is perfect in my eyes.

This is a middling track for NO, pretty good though - 70%.

Got the 12" limited release the other day for only a fiver and in mint condition - now I need to get a vinyl player for it (and for the rest of my NO vinyl).

Hopefully the remixes built on the foundations of the song - not sure why it was only on limited release though...

Possibly one of, if not the, best song off Get Ready for me, simply for the interlude where the other tracks drop down in the mix and Hooky and Barney go into simultaneous "solos".

One of the outstanding tracks on Get Ready (Crystal and Primitive notion being the others)

The intro, with those weird electronic noises and the way the bass bursts in (a bit reminiscent of Dracula's castle?) is brilliant as is the interlude alluded to by Mr Ape in the post above.

I liked the chorus more when I deluded myself into believing it was Gillian's voice. Thats really the only downside of the track, although the weak ending does little for me with Dawn's slowed down warblings.

Those 3 tracks I mention, plus Sabotage, Behind closed doors, Here to stay, Player in the league.... Get ready should have turned out much better than it did.

Stongly agree and well put.People think the chorus is pish but you have to use your imagination and think what they are trying to say !!!

Really agree that it's a top track and the mixes you mentioned are the pick off the limited promo vinyls-why this song got passed over in favour of 60 Farts Per Hour is beyond me.

It is a beautiful song indeed. And must add that i never really got why so many disregard 'Get Ready' that much, it's a very surprising and fresh No. album (as mentioned in some reviews at the times : 'come back shouldn't be THIS GOOD !!!), personally, i can't really pick one particular track from it, i always listen to the album straight from start to end, and what a magnificent close with either 'Run Wild' (for the regular #) or 'BCD' (Jpn.#).

Who is on backing vocals then? Because Dawn is credited for Crystal etc but not this one. So whi is it? Misprint?

I thought so too jake but she isnt credited for it. It goes Dawn Zee on backing vocals for track something something and something but not someone like you, just checked. So the mystery remains.

I like the intro to this song a lot but then it gets a bit bland for me, plus sorry folks but I can't stand Dawn Zee's vocals with New Order, they're just too cliched and too technical to blend well with Bernards beautifully flawed vocal style. I wish they wouldn't use backing singers like this, if they want to use a female voice why don't they ask someone with a special voice like Kate Bush or Bjork? New Order with Kate Bush and Bjork on harmony vocals, now that would be interesting!
