SHELLSHOCK ORIGINAL 12"
NOT VERY GOOD AT MATHS ANYMORE BUT 57.5% SOUNDS GOOD TO ME ESPECIALLY IF IT IS ALCOHOLIC CONTENT. ROCKET MISSING THE POINT AS USUAL MICK
There was no irony. What do you do with subculture? that ain't got a sleeve, does that mean you can only play that one record again and again?
YES BUT I CANT PLAY THE FREE REMIXED ONE I GOT WITH A CERTAIN DEFUNCT MAG.I DO BELIEVE THIS IS A BETTER VERSION. ROCKET REMIXED
THE ORIGINAL 12 INCH WAS IN A BRILLIANT SHINY BLACK COVER AND WAS VERY GOTHIC FOR ITS TIME.I DO BELIEVE THIS INSPIRED A YOUNG MARILYN MANSON OR WAS IT CHARLES? ROCKET MICK AT YOUR SERVICE
1 The lyrics......
just purchased the A&M American 12" with the extended version and the extra verse - fookin love it
2 sounds just a wee bit dated I suppose
3 My wee brother Daniel could sing the song all the way through, when he was only 3 - I kid you's not! Used to impress everyone - nowadays the daft twat only listens to Oasis![]()

5 My age;)
Just the standard plain white one mate.......my mate Darren picked it up at a car boot sale 3 weeks ago....50pence
The bastard traded it with me, fer several records, Northside, 808 State, New Order & Electronic stuff (all of which were doublers
)
Hadn't played the 12" in years, but seeing as how I just got my turntable back, it was due time to give it a test.
Bits I like best are the guitars and vocals. Lyrics aren't bad either.
Worst bits have already been mentioned: the cover and the b-side title.
Liked it a lot at the time of release, but don't think it's aged particularly well. Obviously there's a reason I hadn't played it in quite a while.

Just one mistake with one girl. That's all.

Doesn't bother me if you aren't PC Mick. Keep up with the good posts, you're always a good read, and my mom used to say water finds its own level. Never knew what she was referring to either.
1 - the panning in the intro 2 - synth stabs 3 - dated 75%
i happen to love the sleeve to Shellshock. It's hanging right next to BLT behind my turntables. Run-out groove is "So HiP It Hurts" right? Same as Liv's signature.
HELLO MR HAGEN,WHAT DOES ALEX! ON THE FRONT COVER MEAN.I DID ONCE READ ABOUT THIS BUT TIME AND ALL THAT BEER FADES MY MEMORY. CHEERS ROCKET MICK

are you trying to tell us something, paranoid? i've seen your new pic. all i have to say is...don't pull a kurt cobain on us...
Good bit? Good bit? Can't think of one, sorry....
Where to begin? The lyrics make no sense (which isn't as grating, but still), and the sound is just awful to my virgin ears
When it's over on Substance and moves on to the next song.

My enormous ass :moon: See, it's disgusting, isn't it?
git I was just about to tell the same joke.
Um Shellshock...liked it when I was about 16, havent listened for ages. It's dated, but I sort of like that. ABout 60 odd percent. Best bits the beginning.
Thing to change about myself...I wish I didn't instantly dislike so many people..no one on here of course....
1- The guitars (and the instrumental version of Thieves Like Us on the 7" flip) 2- Much of the song is pretty piss weak actually. 3- Barney's vocals, the backing vocals, the whole song and its production has dated really badly.... 4- 20% and that's being generous!! 5- I wish I wasn't such a surly little shit when I was a teenager - but then we're easily led aren't we?

Reminds me of a line I used on a lady once. When I was cooking in a restuarant, a coworker and I were talking about the distance between two objects, and I said "Well, it's only about 5 inches or so". This girl, who was walking by, caught the last end of the conversation, and, in a kind of snooty voice, said " WELL...... I don't make it with guys unless they have 10 inches". I just looked at her and said "Brenda, there's no way in the world I'm cutting 2 inches off for you!" The shocked look on her face was priceless, and she didn't say much the rest of the day. I, on the other hand, couldn't stop laughing. ![]()

Best bit - I think the chorus is really catchy and I love the intro.
Worst bit - Can't really fault it like most other people. I really like this song.

SHELLSHOCK ORIGINAL 12"
Is there any?
The whole song.
This is IMHO the weakest single every released by New Order. This song is simply, not good.

Nobody changes perfection :D Probably being humble would help ;)
Just to make it clear, I'm reviewing the Substance version for this one.
Best: Bass sequencers, lyrics, bass, drum work. I never much cared for it till I heard boots and soundchecks of the live version.
Worst: That cheesy synth-brass sounding 4 note pattern over and over again. Tarnishes an otherwise decent song.
Why love/hate: Proof that opinions of a song (especially New Order) can change so rapidly.

Shellshock, the complete opposite of Blue Monday. BM has been killed over the past 21years,where as Shellshock seems to of had a 12 month life span of 1986-1987 then with the odd live exception put to rest. Shame cos its quite a classic sounding track (i love those 80s 12" with a dub b.side-my favorite NO period).

Nice release of potent anger with the 'It's never enough until your heart stops beating' line
Hasn't aged well.
Was one of the first NO songs that convinced me NO were worth it.

There's nothing I regret.
I love the live recording of this. Its from about 1996 and someone posted it up on this site. Its very funky and has great backing vocals from Hooky. Barneys post song comments to the crowd are the most vile ive ever heard. "what a tame crowd you are, what a bunch of cu*ts you are. you make me want to p*ss myself".
i dont know what country the gig was in but needless to say they was no reponse from the crowd, so i presume it was overseas.
Is this the only New Order song to start with a chorus instead of a verse? Can't think of another one right now. ![]()
After only hearing this song first a few days ago,
1.Good lyric & catchy chorus
2.Hasn't aged well
3.product of the '80's & better live than on record,it has a bit too much going on...thanks Mr. Robie
