git I was just about to tell the same joke.

Um Shellshock...liked it when I was about 16, havent listened for ages. It's dated, but I sort of like that. ABout 60 odd percent. Best bits the beginning.

Thing to change about myself...I wish I didn't instantly dislike so many people..no one on here of course....

1- The guitars (and the instrumental version of Thieves Like Us on the 7" flip) 2- Much of the song is pretty piss weak actually. 3- Barney's vocals, the backing vocals, the whole song and its production has dated really badly.... 4- 20% and that's being generous!! 5- I wish I wasn't such a surly little shit when I was a teenager - but then we're easily led aren't we?

Reminds me of a line I used on a lady once. When I was cooking in a restuarant, a coworker and I were talking about the distance between two objects, and I said "Well, it's only about 5 inches or so". This girl, who was walking by, caught the last end of the conversation, and, in a kind of snooty voice, said " WELL...... I don't make it with guys unless they have 10 inches". I just looked at her and said "Brenda, there's no way in the world I'm cutting 2 inches off for you!" The shocked look on her face was priceless, and she didn't say much the rest of the day. I, on the other hand, couldn't stop laughing.

  1. Best bit: The bassline is crazy. I love it.
  2. Worst bit: Too many fans hate it.
  3. Why I like: Because the sound of this song is all over the place. New Order seems so composed and rehersed usually.

The whole song.

  1. Why?

This is IMHO the weakest single every released by New Order. This song is simply, not good.

Best: Bass sequencers, lyrics, bass, drum work. I never much cared for it till I heard boots and soundchecks of the live version.

Worst: That cheesy synth-brass sounding 4 note pattern over and over again. Tarnishes an otherwise decent song.

Why love/hate: Proof that opinions of a song (especially New Order) can change so rapidly.

Shellshock, the complete opposite of Blue Monday. BM has been killed over the past 21years,where as Shellshock seems to of had a 12 month life span of 1986-1987 then with the odd live exception put to rest. Shame cos its quite a classic sounding track (i love those 80s 12" with a dub b.side-my favorite NO period).

  1. Twinkle bits juxtaposed with ball blasting bits (effin' muso, moi?).
  2. The video could be easier on the retina.
  3. This is the song that made the penny drop with me and NO. I had a growing interest in this strange little group - when this single came out I decided that's it- I'm going to look out for anything else they release in the future... A full realisation of my obsession was still yet to mature though...

I love the live recording of this. Its from about 1996 and someone posted it up on this site. Its very funky and has great backing vocals from Hooky. Barneys post song comments to the crowd are the most vile ive ever heard. "what a tame crowd you are, what a bunch of cu*ts you are. you make me want to p*ss myself".

i dont know what country the gig was in but needless to say they was no reponse from the crowd, so i presume it was overseas.

Is this the only New Order song to start with a chorus instead of a verse? Can't think of another one right now.
