This week the song is....
YOUR SILENT FACE
This is a song exclusively made of best bits 2. Worst bit
Agree with the Tabbsy, Major you are sailing perilously close to rank heresy here.
Because it is a song i have often heard 15 times in a row and I could never get tired of listening to it, for its sublime beauty, for its funny lyrics, cos it has got one of the most beautiful song titles ever, for its apparent simplicity...Because they are playing it life...

Still waiting to get it. Come to you later on this.
the ethereal sound of the song, great combo of synth and hooky's bass.
can't think of anything, really.
see #1, and it's beautiful and mellow. best off PC&L in my opinion.

from what i've seen of it (only the eagle and discoball, mind you), not really my taste. not that i hate discoballs or birds, mind you....
Best bit for me, to be particular with such a great song, is that the simple synth riff just captivates me in a wondrous way, and the melodica is a great touch.
Worst bit: just another voice saying that there is nothing wrong with this beauty.
Loved it from the first listen on PCL, and I was blown away when they opened with it live at my first NO show; pretty damn sure I stood there with my mouth open.

Also haven't seen Retro in person, so I'm gonna wait to pass true judgement for a bit.
1.One of my favorites, makes me feel like i'm in the clouds 2.nothing 3.see #1 4.98% 5.has not arrived yet...
1 So why don't you piss off.....or the fact they ressurected it fer the live shows.....or the synths all the way through... 2 that I can't get my hands on the Velocity Girl version 3 Just a fantastic New Order sounding record 4 90% 5 neither love nor loathe it;)
Best bit - the string synth sounds - blissful waves
Worst bit - that I spent 15 years hating this track
Love/hate - I liked it when it was released, then sort of went off it in 1985. Since the summer shows it has rocketed back up to a place in my personal NO Top 5.
Percentage - 95%
Retro artwork ? - it's well-packaged and designed. Not 100% convinced about the eagle etc, but I wouldn't have thought it will in any way affect my enjoyment of the product.
best--after the lyrics, it set the standard for NO instrumental endings. Everyone in complete sync jamming away with their most elegant song worst--not having it with me when I need to hear it rating--100% The only other song I would rank as perfection retro art--disco ball for dance music, eagle for fascism, fits the band well

Somewhere in the song when Stephens rhythms and Hookys bass flow along it makes me think of vast waves in rhythm upon a great ocean for some reason.Genius.

Had 2 come looking for this one
1: All of it
2: Dont be daft, put the song back on! (could they make it LONGER please?)
3: Love it because it has more beutiful atmosphere than any clasical symphony. It just washes over you in waves - I can listen to this over & over, its like the perfect song, now why dont u piss off
4: 100
5: Retro is OK
1- the part between the beginning and the end 2- the part before the beginning and after the end 3- neither love or hate is appropriate 4- 99 (always leave some hope for something better) 5- what artwork on retro?
A killer track, would have loved to of seen this a single, coupled with Age Of Consent. Chuck in another 6 tracks and it`d be a perfect release...
I really don´t understand all the fuss about this song. The song is very simple and childish.
number 6: biggest thrill.
to be suprised and delighted by its addition in chicago adding to what was simply already a fantastic show.
"alright, alright, don't fuckin' overcook the errr chicken, it's over boys."
You'd probably say the same thing about Europe Endless(The "KW-1" working title of YSF is Barney's acknowledgement of Kraftwerk's influence on this track and Europe Endless is the closest in feel to YSF). Go forth, seek out Kraftwerk's Trans Europe Express(on which Europe Endless is contained).Better still, have a listen to Man Machine & Computer World as well "and your training will be complete my young Padawan learner"(I knew I'd use that quote on a NOOL forum one of these days!!).
BTW Bere, that previous verbose rant wasnt directed at you; I just forgot to quote Runwild1's comments from page one. he was being a bit of a philistine(And I DON'T mean one of Phil C's German cousins!!). Hopefully after giving those pointers he may come up with a more favourable assesment of this slightly spiky masterpiece.
One of their best-ever songs.
Got to love the line "So why don't you piss off."
I remember the title for it being KW1 in tribute to Kraftwerk's "Europe Endless" on PCL test pressings.
Luckily, I saw them do it in concert in Toronto in November, 1986 at Massey Hall.
