RUN WILD
Best Bit When it ends.
Worst Bit When it starts.
Why... The mighty ROCK THE SHACK totally towers over this one. Get Ready is pretty much downhill in the last few tracks, IMO (no flames please). I've only listened to it the first coupla times I played the LP, so I'll probably come back to it in a while and think it's wonderful though...
Percentage rating Ooooh - I'll be generous and go for 15%
Why did the chicken cross the road? To get the elephants out of the fridge.
best..........well....it is "different" worst....see answer 1 3.neutral 4.i'm being kind with a 35% 5.why did the chicken cross the road???? cause it was too dumb to walk on the same side of the road....cluck cluck cluck
Best - the keyboard horn (although mixed a little too loud) Worst - the female voice and the last two lines are lame Why - Like the instruments, vocals are meh Perc - 30% Chicken - because my fork was chasing it
Best Bit :acoustic New Order that doesn't come off crappy
Worst Bit: They will never record anything like this again (acoustic format)
Fave Part: Barney's lyrics (fit the song)
Rating: 90 %
Why Did the Chicken Cross the Road: To protest the Bourgoise's control and domination of working conditions in pre-1914 England and much of Europe, and counter the rising tide of nationalism that threatened to tear apart the multinational Austro-Hungarian Empire.....or to get to tha other side, I guess ![]()
I like Barney's way of singing in this song.
Reference to Jesus makes him look like Bono (mmmhh do we have a shuddering smiley?)
I absolutelly hated this song when Grrready! appeared, now it's not so bad, I still listen to it from time to time.

Cos' he was a free range chicken. Moral of the story: Keep your chicken inside their coops, children and you could save motorists' lives.

Sorry, not to be a nitpicker...that instrument Barney plays is called a melodeon (sp?). He has played it in other songs, too:
Love Vigilantes Hurt In A Lonely Place
Okay, I'll shut up now. :)

A rather large MELODICA inherited from Ian no less
I've heard it called that, too...now that you mention it. :)
Not sure what it's really called, though...

Trust old Don, Domingo, it is a Melodica. If you do not believe us ask Jorge Teixeira.

Melodica, definitely. Also in French.
1 It's slow and gracious, unlike the rest of the album, it's also a very sentimental set of lyrics from Steve. 2 it's not fast and furious:D 3 it's ok 4 75% 5 cos Depeche Mode were busking on the same side of the road as him.
Best bit is the tune and Barney's singing.
Another vote for the worst bit of the song being the last line.
Good change of pace, but I don't play this song that often.

The chicken crossed the road to avoid the KFC franchise.
Just found this following post in a newsgroup thread tonight; how appropriate.
GEORGE W. BUSH: I don't think I should have to answer that question.
AL GORE: I invented the chicken. I invented the road. Therefore, the chicken crossing the road represented the application of these two different functions of government in a new, reinvented way designed to bring greater services to the American people.
RALPH NADER: The chicken's habitat on the original side of the road had been polluted by unchecked industrialist greed. The chicken did not reach the unspoiled habitat on the other side of the road because it was crushed by the wheels of a gas-guzzling SUV.
PAT BUCHANAN: To steal a job from a decent, hard-working American.
RUSH LIMBAUGH: I don't know why the chicken crossed the road, but I'll bet it was getting a government grant to cross the road, and I'll bet someone out there is already forming a support group to help chickens with crossing-the-road syndrome. Can you believe this? How much more of this can real Americans take? Chickens crossing the road paid for by their tax dollars, and when I say tax dollars, I'm talking about YOUR money, money the government took from you to build roads for chickens to cross.
MARTHA STEWART: No one called to warn me which way that chicken was going. I had a standing order at the farmer's market to sell my eggs when the price dropped to a certain level. No little bird gave ME any insider information!!
JERRY FALWELL: Because the chicken was gay! Isn't it obvious? Can't you people see the plain truth in front of your face? The chicken was going to the "other side." That's what they call it - the "other side." Yes, my friends, that chicken is gay! And, if you eat that chicken, YOU will become gay too!! I say we boycott all chickens until we sort out this abomination that the liberal media whitewashes with seemingly harmless phrases like "the other side."
DR. SEUSS: Did the chicken cross the road? Did he cross it with a toad? Yes! The chicken crossed the road, But why it crossed, I've not been told!
ERNEST HEMINGWAY: To die. In the rain. Alone.
MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR.: I envision a world where ALL chickens will be free to cross roads without having their motives called into question!
GRANDPA: In my day, we didn't ask why the chicken crossed the road. Someone told us that the chicken crossed the road, and that was good enough for us.
BARBARA WALTERS: Isn't that interesting? In a few moments we will be listening to the chicken tell, for the first time, the heart-warming story of how it overcame a serious case of molting, and went on to finally accomplish its life-long dream of crossing the road.
JOHN LENNON: Imagine all the little chickens crossing roads in peace!
ARISTOTLE: It is the nature of chickens to cross the road.
KARL MARX: It was a historical inevitability.
SADDAM HUSSEIN: This was an unprovoked act of rebellion, and we were quite justified in dropping 50 tons of nerve gas on it.
VOLTAIRE: I may not agree with what the chicken did, but I will defend to the death its right to do it.
RONALD REAGAN: What chicken?
CAPTAIN KIRK: To boldly go where no chicken has gone before.
FOX MULDER: You saw it cross the road with your own eyes! How many more chickens do you have to see cross the road before you will believe it?
SIGMUND FREUD: The fact that you are even at all concerned that the chicken crossed the road at all reveals your underlying sexual insecurity.
BILL GATES: I have just released eChicken 2003, which will not only cross roads, but will lay eggs, file your important documents, and balance your checkbook - and Internet Explorer is an inextricable part of eChicken.
ALBERT EINSTEIN: Did the chicken really cross the road, or did the road move beneath the chicken?
BILL CLINTON: I did NOT cross the road with THAT chicken. What do you mean by "chicken"? Could you define "chicken", please?
THE BIBLE: And God came down from the heavens, and He said unto the chicken, "Thou shalt cross the road." And the chicken crossed the road, and there was much rejoicing.
COLONEL SANDERS: I missed one?

Why do you say Steve, Shug? Have I missed something or is it in a part of the booklet I have not read yet? BTW I am not being ironic or anything.

Most of the song is about Steve and Gillian's daughter, apparently written by Steve. No prizes for guessing who wrote the last line though.

Is that a guess based on the subject or have they say so? Ther was another mention the other day about Steve having a hand at lyrics in Brotherhood, I think. This is interesting.
Best Bit - its nice to hear them trying something a bit different.
Worst Bit - The Jesus stuff
Why... - I actually dont mind this song too much, it reminds me of ELC as it breaks the mould, nice to hear Barney really have a crack at singing as well :)

Eh? You sure about this Shuglet? When did Steve start writing New Order lyrics?
I thought the original line was that Barney had written a track about one of his children going through an illness, but then someone here pointed out that one of the Morris clan was ill, so the presumption was that Barney had written a song about their daughter. So are we now assuming that Steve wrote the whole track for his daughter, but Barney tagged on the last 2 lines just to antagonise the PC brigade?
All sounds a bit far-fetched to me. . ![]()

Shan't.
In reply to Budvar, Timbo and Big Al about the lyrics.......
I could possibly be wrong
You's all know what my memory is like
But I coulda swore that Steve wrote the lyrics for Grace, I WAS sure about this until Jarvo mentioned Barney throwing in the last two lines.....now I'm completely confused!
If I get a chance tonight, I'll dig out all the reviews and interviews for Get Ready, to get to the bottom of this![]()
SAEED AL SAHAF - Iraqi Head of Information The chicken did not cross the road. This is a complete fabrication. We do not even have a chicken.
GEORGE W BUSH We don't care why the chicken crossed the road. We just want to know if the chicken is on our side of the road or not. The chicken is either for us or against us. There is no middle ground.
COLIN POWELL Now to the left of the screen, you can clearly see the satellite image of the chicken crossing the road.
TONY BLAIR I agree with George.
HANS BLIX We have reason to believe there is a chicken, but we have not yet been allowed to have access to the other side of the road.
