Pop singer ROBBIE WILLIAMS apologised to former JOY DIVISION rockers PETER HOOK and BERNARD SUMNER when his song ANGELS beat classic Joy Division track LOVE WILL TEAR US APART to a BRIT AWARD earlier this year (05). Williams was left so red-faced when his song won the Brits 25 Best Song award - honouring the best UK tune of the last quarter of a century - he immediately sought out the veteran stars, who formed NEW ORDER after Joy Division frontman IAN CURTIS killed himself in 1980. Bassist Hook says, "Robbie came and apologised. We've known him for years and he's a nice guy. "Me and Bernard were taking the p**s because he knew the score. I thought he should have given his Brit away - to us. He didn't need another one."

According to Worldinmotion.net, the 2nd single off New Order's upcoming Waiting For The Sirens' Call is scheduled to be released on May 16th, 2005. Remixes will be done by Arthur Baker, Richard X and Tom Neville. The video is currently being filmed as we announced yesterday.

Das neue Album von „New Order“ ist ein Vorbote des Sommers: Man will glatt das Fenster aufreißen und die Sonne zurückgrüßen Hoffentlich täuscht man sich, aber es könnte ja sein, dass ein paar Bübchen aus dem deutschen Kulturbetrieb gerade ihr Zwergenleiden am Lebenssinn wegmachen wollen, indem sie an einer Biedermeiergroßhandlung basteln. Man wähnt sich fast umzingelt von Damen und Herren, die als Großschriftstellerdarsteller herumtun, von im Akkord Leinwände mit lauwarmem Öl vollpinselnden Malern aus Leipzig, von cremefarbenen Architekturbüros, die Berlin wieder herschinkeln sollen, weil wenn alles schon den Bach ’runtergeht, dann wie damals, mit Im-Tässchen-Rühren und Fingerchen-Abspreizen. Womöglich müssen da ein paar Hohlräume hinter Mauern und Stirnen bis zum Regierungswechsel zugekalkt werden, damit man die Po-Öffnung in die richtige Richtung halten kann, nämlich in die, aus der dann bald der Wind weht, gell? Aaah, joldene Zwanziga. Wenn die ersten Kollegen mit Gamaschen und Ärmelschonern ins Büro kommen, gehen wir jedenfalls einen saufen und sagen dann superleise Servus.

Legendary Manchester band New Order have taken the reins of City Life magazine and become Editors for the week. In this week's issue (out 30th March), Peter Hook and Bernard Sumner and co bring readers the literary treats of a review of Manchester restaurant, Establishment, and their take on the new book on the history of post punk by Simon Reynolds. Plus the tables are turned as they get to play music critics, reviewing the album of the week. There is also a full interview with the band about their hotly anticipated album Waiting For The Sirens' Call. Perhaps more famous for their arguments, it seems Hooky and Sumner have buried the hatchet, although they didn't actually do the interview together! Ana Matronic from Scissor Sisters has jetted into the UK to make a video with New Order. They met at this year's Brits and she's been a fan since she was 13: Ana provides vocals on their new track 'Jetstream' but stayed tight-lipped about what she's doing in the video: "All I know is that there are spacecraft involved." "My styling is futuristic but also has some Japanese embellishments."

This compilation contains over two hours of rare footage by leading bands from the highly-collectable cult labels Factory Records and Les Disques du Crepuscule, filmed between 1979 and 1987. Among the best known artists and tracks featured are Josef K, New Order, A Certain Ratio, Tuxedomoon, Cabaret Voltaire and Durutti Column. The New Order clip, a live track from Brussels May 1981, is the earliest concert material so far released by the band, and captures one of the first live performances of this electro classic. Other artists included on this fascinating archive DVD are Antena, Section 25, Marine, Berntholer, Crispy Ambulance, The Names, Malaria!, Thick Pigeon, Minny Pops, Kalima, Swamp Children, Quando Quango, Stockholm Monsters and Paul Haig. Combining studio and live footage, the DVD provides a definitive genre snapshot. Umbrellas in the Sun has a running time of two hours fifteen minutes and features detailed sleevenotes. The disc is Region 0 (multi-region), NTSC format. The jacket features original artwork by Benoit Hennebert. DUE OUT: MAY 2 2005.

Vor Augen geführt, dass New Orders Anfänge in den 77er Punkrocktagen liegen, wollen sie mit dem Nachfolger ihres überzeugenden 2001er Comeback Album "Get Ready" den Spagat zwischen Rock und Dance meistern. Konsequent ersetzt Phil Cunningham an der Gitarre nun dauerhaft Keyboarderin Gilian Gilbert. Dementsprechend müsste "Walking Overtime", die einzige harte Rocknummer den Anfang von "The Siren´s Call" machen. Doch anstelle dieses an die Stooges erinnernden Songs, versuchen sich New Order an Rockhymnen, die U2 oder R.E.M. besser zu Gesicht stehen. Nach dem flauen Beginn des Albums haben sich die Jungs aus Manchester erst mit der aktuellen Single "Krafty" warmgespielt. Danach folgen in enger Abfolge: "I told you so", ein New Order typischer Reggae. Zwei poppige Dancenummern, die wie alle Songs des Albums mit druckvollem Sound produziert sind. Mit "Jet Stream" folgt sicherlich die Vorlage für die nächste Popsingle. Höhepunkt des Albums ist "Guilt is a better Emotion", das entsprechend des eingängigen Refrains der Sängerin Ana Matronic besser "I need your love" heißen müsste. Egal, der Song ist die Steilvorlage in den Raum für die Remixer dieser Welt, aus dieser gelungenen Dancenummer einen noch größeren Tanzflächenmagneten zu machen. Von Ulrich Radespiel

Off the Menu Entertainment and Warner Bros. in association Entertainment Weekly and Virgin Atlantic Airways are kick starting the 2005 Winter Music Conference in South Beach (Miami) with a massive album launch party for New Order on March 22nd at Mansion nightclub. Manchester’s finest ever band, New Order, return with their new, hotly anticipated album, “WAITING FOR THE SIRENS’ CALL”. Showcasing New Order’s unique ability to both shake the dance floor and rock the hardest. The new album is for everyone, its eleven songs take in influences as diverse as electro, rock, dancehall and punk, all bound together by New Order’s cool romance, diamond-hard modernity and wild, unparalleled musicality. The first single, “KRAFTY”, is bass-driven, machine-like, ridiculously catchy, and considered by the band to be one of the best tracks they’ve ever made. New Order created some of pop's most influential songs - with equipment they built themselves. By Andrew Perry New Order, one of the most enduringly popular British groups of the post-punk era, return to the charts this week with their 27th hit song, Krafty. Later this month, it will be followed by their eighth album, Waiting for the Sirens' Call. Like its predecessors, it is packed with the kind of lavishly produced, electronically enhanced, yet somewhat impenetrable pop tunes, for which the Mancunian quartet have been so beloved for 25 years - never more so than today, when the band are name-checked by a fresh wave of disciples, such as Bloc Party, Interpol and Franz Ferdinand. Since they formed in 1980 from the ashes of austere post-punks Joy Division, New Order have always been something of an enigma, born of the stately elegance of their music and their inscrutable lyrics, as well as their initial unwillingness to give interviews or to promote themselves as rock bands conventionally do. Over time, the mysteriousness has been offset against a growing sense that their grand façade masks little but a comedy of errors.
