Just one word...

Fudge! (hehe you thought I would say fuck, now didn't you  )

The thing that makes this whole situation worse is that Aaron Boone went to the University of Spoiled Children, and no Trevor I am not talking about the university of south carolina; a damn Trojan has to ruin my night. That just adds to my rage; I do not know what to do now, go beat up some people at USC, go burn down Yankee Stadium, or go to New York to give a swift kick in the balls to George Steinbrenner, who is one Republican I detest; 180 million dollar payroll!?! :wtf:

Since I seem to be the only one on this board pulling for the Yanks, I really gotta hand it to the Bosox for fighting tooth and nail for the full seven games; one of these years, that curse will finally be lifted. Helluva game to watch, it's gotta be a bummer to stay up that late on the east coast to see something like that. Don't worry Josh, I'll be very nice to my coworker tomorrow morning, we don't need any aggrovation on a Friday morning

How can anyone root for a team w/ a convicted felon as an owner who spends 180 million dollars in salaries to buy every player he can. Other things: Rocket is a damn jerk, Jeter is overrated and damn annoying, Giambi underachieves, Mariano's cutter should be illegal (he is the only Yank I respect), Zimmer is a crocodile tears jerk, the list can go one and on, but i will restrain myself

I agree with all but Jeter, who I think (apart from his stupid ads with Steinbrenner) is a good player. Not only that, he's the only identifiable "personality" on the team. Everybody else can be bought and sold, but the minute Steiny ever thinks about getting rid of Jeter he'll be run out of town on the horse's ass he came in on. In fact, I'll go out on a limb and say one day people will be talking about Jeter the way they talk about Dimaggio and Mantle (but probably not Ruth).

As for the BoSox...apparently reverse psychology don't work on them baseball gods! Martinez was dominant the first seven innings, but of course (just around the time the Fox announcer stated that they were "five outs away from a World Series") the Yanks started showing why they spend all that money. The Corporate Goliath was victorious over the Playing-With-Heart David once again.

As for the Series itself...unwatchable. I do have to admit my addiction to baseball cost me a lot of hours of sleep this week, and while I have to admit I can't completely subdue my Yankee affections, they're not the same team I rooted for earlier and I can't say I'd care either way.

If you like the Yankees and not the Braves, then what hell are you doing below the Mason-Dixon line? I would imagine you are very bored in the SC wilderness; move to an urban area, where there are more women, so you have a greater chance of getting laid? :D

I'm not really a big Yankee fan at all (Mets, Giants, and Mariners here), and those are great reasons to hate NY, though I don't consider Jeter to be overrated at all, he's helped win all those rings, which Nomar and A-Rod have yet to do.

When I started watching and playing baseball, in the pre-George era, the Yanks weren't that good at all, though Mel Stottlemyre was a pretty decent pitcher back then. Don't forget that they recently went over a decade without winning even a division title, so I'd say that the aggresive pursuit of top players by NY hasn't always panned out successfully Year By Year........

However, if George does get rid of Brian Cashman because he thinks he can be a better director of player personnel, in these days of his increasing rage, then that would be a sad development. :skeptic:

Gave my Bosox coworker a big hug today; the poor guy was devasted, and I certainly wasn't gonna rub it in his face. He thought they blew their chance by not scoring in the fourth with 2 on and no outs, but that superb effort by Mussina quelled that fire. Can't wait till next February when spring traing starts and then he'll walk into work and say that "This is when the real men show up to work" :thumb: I love you lots, John, keep it up.

Florida will give 'em all they can handle, I think; they can run the bases well, so they should be able to produce some runs, we'll see how the pitching holds up, but the fact that Florida had the best record in baseball since they changed their manager is a fact not to be ignored. Still, the Yanks in 6.

I'll be bold and predict the Marlins in 5, I believe that the Marlins staff will not have a problem w/ theslumping Yankee hitting, and the Yankee D will have catastrophe dealing w/ Pierre

Oh now PLEASE, don't let the fu**ing Marlins win the World Series or I'll be so sick..........

You'd rather let the Yankees win their twenty seventh series  I hope the D Train runs all over the Bronx bombers

Well, you know, the Marlins have a long and storied history, going back to the early 90s, and they've only won in the World Series once (1997). Thereafter followed a six-year drought in which the millions of Marlins fans the world over suffered, saying "wait until next year" even though, in their hearts, they know it's probably not gonna happen. Now, after such a long time between championships, the Marlins finally have a chance to erase the curse of the "Sale-Happy Owner" from their history books. I can only hope, should the Yankees defeat them, that the Marlins can recover.

:D

moving that was really moving Trevor  now just recognize the Fish in 6! Foxsports predicts Fish in 5

Yanks lose, Yanks lose, Yanks lose  Juan Pierre allowed the Fish to squeak past the Yanks, and the D-Train (a product of the Cub farm system  ) did an awesome job in relief, and the Marlin defense was awesome for all the key plays.

Did anybody really doubt the Yankees would lose the first game? Especially after that extended ALCS against Boston, so soon before the start of the Series? They were tired last night, and the Marlins proved to be the better team. Remember how everyone thought the Yanks were out of it in '96, two games down versus the Braves? I'd hold off on the gloating for a while....:D

dont underestimate the marlins, they got a really good team, proved it against the cubs and last night in game 1, should be a good game tonight.

I wasn't, I'm just saying it may be a more evenly-matched Series than TJ would like :D

We all know why the Yanks got into the Series in 96  , and I believe the Fish will lose tonight, but they will end up winning in 5 or 6, damn the game is already 4-0

I think this might go all to 7 games, but I can't really bring myself to watch it. I can't really say who'll win, but I have a feeling Joe Torre's job may depend on it. If he and George part their ways, I think the Yanks will probably sink into another decade-long slump. He's one of the best managers in the game, any team would be lucky to have him

Let the Yanks crush The Fish.

Let Steinbrenner show the world that having a 180 Million$ payroll can give benefits.

Even if that payroll is 4 times bigger than half the teams in Major League Baseball. :nonono:

man up north, i love the video clip of the penguins under your name. where did you find that? kamar

i agree with you on the payroll issue, if i was a yankees fan, id love steinbrenner(sp) to death, usually, the only people who complain about his payroll are people who hate the yankees. i want the cubs to spend more and get a catcher who can hit. fuck bako/miller. and a bullpen that dusty is not afraid to use.

we were hoping they would, but they were cheap, boy, did that come back to hurt us :( oh and i heard today the cubs are 8th in the league in payroll, the whitsox were 17 or something. 17 mil of the cubs 86 mil salary goes to sammy sosa, take that out and the cubs are at the same level of the W. sox. i love sosa, but get rid of him and go after valdamir Guerro.

You know as well as I do that anyone in the Cubs organization even thinking about trading Sammy away would be run out of town faster than Steve Bartman and that damned billy goat. On the other hand, you have to consider whether or not he's been a huge help to the team lately. Nobody's expendable anymore when it comes to baseball :nonono:

Getting Vlad is dangerous, with his massive swing he is messing up his back, which is why he was hurt last season, until he changes his swing, Vlad is a gamble for any team

I can't get behind this team; apart from Jeter and maybe Boone (who I think will forever be remebered in Boston, regardless of whether he's with the team next year), there's nobody to root for. Well, Mariano is the best closer period, but he's only out there for a little while. I think Wells is beginning to lose his edge, Pettitte's still solid but probably won't be around next year, and Clemens is the jackass who tried to basically kill Piazza. Everyone else is bought-and-sold, and even though I'm a - sigh - Yankee fan, I can't stand the way King George has spent his wealth. :nonono:

sosa is expendable. he strikes out way too much, is a sub-par right fielder (slow/no arm), teamates seem to dislike him, in key situations when your team needs a walk, sacrifice, single, etc... sammy will 7 times out of 10 strike out on a bad pitch. most his homeruns come when the cubs are in the lead. get rid of him and you can get at least 3 good starting players who can make up the homeruns and rbi difference play better defense and be more valuable as a threat running the bases. "sammy traded his arm and speed for homeruns"---my friend tim.

For years Sosa has been the only reason to watch th Cubs, and I would be very suprised to see him traded, and I do not think he deserves to be traded; he still remains the best Cub power hitter, and getting Vlad would not fill the void left by Sammy, especially since Vlad is very injury prone.
