Never thought of John as a celebrity, conjures up thoughts of Posh and Becks, soap actors and Big Brother types. So I was surprised to see his name amongst this years ' contestants ' However, he claims one of his main motivations in agreeing to take part, is the fact that everybody told him not to. Meself, I cant wait to see what happens and I'm glad there appears to be somethin of a contrary cunt about him still. Any thoughts from other NOOLers

Totally agree with you, Gary. I can't believe the hypocrisy of newspapers like the Sun slating John for 'selling out his punk roots' by going on the show - it's not like they supported him 20 odd years ago when presumably he hadn't 'sold out' is it? I've never watched that programme before but I can guarantee I'll watch at least the first episode knowing John's going to be on it. Even though he's become something of a self parody these days, he's usually amusing to watch.

As a member of the first manufactured "boy-band", I'm sure he'll be perfectly at home.

what show is this then? I never usually watch any telly (apart from a few programmes that shall remain nameless ..) so I'm not up on this type of thing. Whatever rubbish show it may be, it'll be a laugh with JL on it, I'm sure

Is that a tongue-in-cheek statement? If it's not then it's wrong on at least two counts...firstly that the Pistols as a manufactured band only ever happened in Talcy Malcy's fevered imagination and secondly the Monkees happened a few years earlier!

It always amazes me how many people believe the bullshit that McLaren has spouted over the years about the Pistols. While they would never have existed without his presence (or the presence of his shop) and the clothes from his shop provided such a striking image for them (and to my mind still look good today - I still wear my 'God Save The Queen' bondage shirt occasionally!) as far as the music and behaviour of the band went, Malcy had no control over them whatsoever - he was terrified that they were all going to get arrested after the Bill Grundy incident!

I'm with Geri in not knowing what the hell you're talking about :D

John Lydon made the Pistols, let's not obscure that. The Pistols may have gotten their clothes and "situationist dogma" from McLaren, but Lydon wrote the songs and led the band on a collision course with the British 'establishment'. I love the man, he's one of my heroes (thus my fiercly anti-royalist stand, even though I'm American), and he's fucking awesome.

That said, the idea of him being on a reality show is a bit much. I'm trying to picture him on "Survivor", "Joe Millionaire" (that would be a hoot, actually: "I've got no fucking money and you're a tramp. We're using each other to ge famous. Are you stupid?"), or (gasp) American Idol (imagine what Simon would say! :evil4: )

Is this "Celebrity Mole", European edition, or something? Having seen the "celebrities" that are on the US edition, I can only imagine what kind of company he'd be in over there

Sorry chaps I thought ..' I'm a celebrity get me out of here ', was an American invention. Anyway the celebs are dropped into the jungle and have to survive each other and assorted jungle things ( snakes, spiders, Goldie, Roni Size , that kind of thing ) But yes the main motivations seem to be :

My agent wants to prove I'm alive. My soccer career is over. My silicone needs replacing. My tits are better than hers, I'm a proper model. My friend is Cliff Richard and he knows God. My career as a pop star is on 'hold', I'm into nature. My best friend is HRH Mrs Windsor, you know. And John. He should have fun.

Ah yes, the legendary "I'm A Celebrity, And this Is Cheaper than Humping Speilberg" :D

The US edition that featured Joan Rivers's equally obnoxious daughter, J. Lo's third or fourth husband, and various other has-beens or never-weres sort of made the title a lie right up front. If Lydon's going to be on there, it should be hilarious :thumb:

Will this be aired in the States?? I'd watch it just for him. They are using a 15 minute delay so they can be out his use of "colorful Language."

And who is that bird with the big fake tits??? They warned her that leeches may bite they causing the boobs to explode. That may be worth watching. Seen plenty of boobies but never any boomies!

That'll be the pneumatic Jordan (so named because she was the model used by the Jordan motor racing team for some adverts a few years ago, before she took the high-pressure route too literally and had her tits inflated to go with her ego). Real name Katie Price. Mate of mine has shagged her. Far more interesting will be the possibility of Mrs McFadden getting her real ones out !

I can just see John as "The Bachelor" (even though he's married) :evil4:

Just the image of John in a tux, surveying all these women who whore themselves out to be on TV and realize they've gotta spend time with him would totally negate any arguements I could make about the awfulness of "reality TV" :D

Anyone else wish they'd just leave him in the jungle when it's all over? He's got a real attitude problem.

Never watched Celebrity before but I will be making time this series just for Lydon. Hopefully they will let him grind Peter Andre's stupid face into the ground at some point. Oh wait, that's just my Celebrity Death Match dream again.

By the way, is it any coincidence that Lydon has a new album on the way?:)

I love the man and happy to hear something new from him in years, whatever he does, it's right. Living in Russia, I guess I'll never get a chance to see that show, alas :( (Though we have the same type of show here - where celebrities have to live in the jungle on islands and eat spiders and re-store their make-up as soon as a camera man steps back, I guess:)

Ha, I wonder if Mark E. Smith would do that kind of job? HOW??:D Get him to the real glamour he deserves for years of bitching :)

anyone who confesses they are re-uniting their band for money is alright with me. i dig his honesty. id love to see him on reality tv, it'll be funny (hopefully).

One of the bonuses about being unemployed is that I can watch this program all day (there's practically 24 hour coverage on ITV2). What's interesting to me is that John's dropped the 'Johnny Rotten' persona when he's in the camp with the others but it comes back again when he's being interviewed in that hut and when he was talking with Ant and Dec before and after going into the ostrich pen.

So is Barny going to be in the next series then? Or maybe Bob Smith?

It would probably help 'em lose weight at least. Though I suppose Celebrity Fat Club might be more useful, come to think of it. Not that I'm anyone to talk (currently on a diet, dammit)

He called himself 'John of the Jungle' tonight :thumb: He seems to be enjoying it all a lot more than most of the others.

The best bits are coming in the ITV2 broadcasts - John has been very chatty with all the others and has been talking about the inspiration behind his lyrics for 'Death Disco' (the death of his mother), expressing his admiration for George Best who'd signed an autograph for his mother when she was dying and was even having a long chat with Jenny Bond about his recording studio - apparently Nora (his wife and mother of Ari Up of the Slits for those who don't know) is doing a lot of recording there at the moment. He's being far more open with these people than he's ever been when he's been interviewed. Throughout the whole time so far he's been quite sickeningly cheerful, hasn't moaned about a thing and even refused to cheat when most of the others wanted to (he'd been made group leader for the day). Unfortunately a lot of the sound is cut "beacuse of legal reasons" which seems to include any songs that the celebs are singing - Dianne Modahl was organising some exercise routines the other day and they began to sing 'Anarchy in the UK' while doing these exercises but unfortunately the sound got removed!
