why should smokers need to stop smoking for 6 months before a transpant? that is ridiculous. if it wasn't for smokers, the basic rate of tax would be much higher the world over. get a grip on reality you fool. if smoking is so bad, why has no government ANYWHERE in the world banned it, or made it illegal etc ?
It's because they really like the revenue they make from the poor bastards who get hooked on the evil habit. so to say to someone who pays that much tax due to smoking "No, you cant have an operation", I feel is just downright silly
He's started breathing without a ventilator now so there's some improvement, although i'm sure he's got a long way to go before he's over the worst.
I sincerely hope he pulls through. Bestie is a footie legend and that isn't going to change, irrespective of the personal problems he has.

you're right, alcoholism is a sickness. however, when someone gets a new organ because an activity destroyed their organ, then continues to do the same activities that destroyed the original organ, that person is not deserving of the donor organ. people do quit drinking. it's not impossible, but you have to want to quit.
Let's say Joe Average was a lifetime smoker and needed a lung transplant. Lets say they had a donor and did a successful transplant. The reason for Joe Average's original Lung going tits-up was smoking 5 packs a day. If Joe Average continues to smoke after getting a new lung, is he an asshole or a hero? If he dies because of the continued smoking, should we feel sympathy or did Joe get what he deserved? As the old cliche says, "You made your bed, now you've got to lie in it"
