Sometimes you have to go through a lot of crap movies to find that one gem...
Actually, now that I think about it, I haven't seen a gem film for a while...maybe I should give up too! ![]()

So Campo, what do you think of the film version of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy? I think I know your answer, but.... perhaps you will surprise me...
Hitchhikers the TV series was fantastic,I bet the movie is not a patch, must get round to seeing it tho..I was gunna watch it on sky box office, but I lost the house vote to Charlie and the Chocolate factory(another remake)It is completely shite without Gene Wilder, and it did'nt even have real Umpa Lumpas..fuckin ruined it:\ohwell:
I kinda liked the new charlie and the choccie.....but of course, what was half a page in one of the books (his dad) turned into halfthe movie...gotta get your 39.67 percent soap element in. But yeah...Gene Wilder was MUCH beter. Speaking of which.....
"We are the music makers, and we, are the dreamers of the dreams"
the movie of H2G2, was OK...i laughed, and wasn't bugged by some things that other people cracked up about ( I thought the openning dolphin song was hilarious).....but they totally lost Douglas Adams in there....so many beautiful Adamsisms were gone...or WORSE, cut short before the real brilliant line. The vogons stank. Marvin REALLY stank.
As for WotW...well there was an attempt made by a company called Pendragon, to make a version accurate to the book, at about the same time weridofuckfaces's movie came out.
Now, listen to me here. Listen to Steve, the guy who watches Dr Who from the 60's ( and worse, the 80's), blake's 7, the Tomorrow people, you name it, who sees shite effects like the BBC see them..."shut up it's theatre, not hollywood"......hark my words....
AVOID THIS MOVIE IT IS UNSPEAKABLY BAD
they took the book as a Bible and still got it COMPLETELY wrong half the time.... Example: the book contains the line "Saturday was a day of a rapidly fluctuating barometer" (meaning unsettled weather and storms approaching usually).....in the film...the "Wells" Character says out loud..."the barometer is fluctuating wildly" and the camera cuts to the needle going bickies from top to bottom.
there is a mobile phone mast in the background as he drives to Leatherhead.
BEST of all tho....there is a wonderful bit in the book where Wells and his wife are having dinner after the Martians have killed the first few people who got near the pit...and he's banging on about how east it would be to wipe them out. He comments that "such may a respectible dodo have spoken of the arrival of pittiless dutch sailors in search of animal food..."we will peck them to death tomorrow my dear"".
in the movie, he just says "we will peck..." out loud with no context whatsoever...point MISSEd.
the accents are fucking tragic.
And the effects...oh god the effects......I swear I could do better and I can't do graphics at all...they were abismal, possibly the worst I have ever seen (yes worse than Dr who and the Web Planet). Don;t do it.
Wait for Jeff Wayne's animated one.....it may not be accurate to the book, but at least it will capture the terror, the helplessness and the shock of the novel.
