the worst film you've seen lately

My wife has the incredible knack to pick the worst movies, even when there are some obvious killers on the shelf. last bad pick -

The Family Stone

Wow, what a waste of time. terrible love story, set in the backdrop of a strange family, poor story line, and the end was soooo cheesy and unbelievable. Only one shocking part, was when Diane Keaton (the dying mother) pulls open her shirt in a romatic scene with her husband and a scar is where her breast should be. . .will have to say that was shocking, but also touching, but other than that, terrible movie.

my mom wanted me to watch Nanny McPhee with her last night, so i did. it was AWFUL. i know it's a kids' movie, but it's possible to make kids' movies that adults can enjoy too if forced to watch them.

I was looking forward to Napolean Dynamite, but thought it was bloody awful. There was only one funny scene, and it seemed that the reason this movie was supposed to be funny was because Napolean and his buddies all looked like total dorks, but thought they were cool. It was like a bad Saturday Night Live sketch dragged on for an hour and a half. In fairness, the volume where I was watching it was way too low and that did detract from my ability to enjoy it.

It was Still better than Ace Ventura 2 though!!

Whoops, I forgot to mention that I tried to watch Barbershop on DVD just this past weekend and only made it through half an hour!

Just been watching it,effects are good but the dialogue is dire.And definite rip-off of 2001,the bit where HAL can lip read. Jessica Biel's nice in it.

I cannot be bothered to finish The Squid and the Whale, I've had it for almost a week and made it through about an hour before putting it up. The guy who directed it co-wrote The Life Aquatic, so I was thinking it would be right up my alley.

There's just nothing about it so far that causes me to want to finish it

worst movies though - there's only been a few movies that I could turn off in the middle and not care about seeing the ending, which is very rare..even if the movie is awful I still need that ending to close it off. The Cat in the Hat was one of them...and I also REALLY (and there's probably going to be a bunch of guys all upset when I say this) hated both the Matrix movies and Fight Club. And yes, I know about all the fancy-shmancy so-called deeper meaning shit and how they end. but I really think it's just a bunch of fancy action scenes dressed up to appear as some kind of intellectual philosohy so that the macho boys can feel special or some similar bullshit.

but that's just me. I'm sure there's another movie that I stopped in the middle of and walked away from, but I just can't remember right now.

Oddly, I only liked the first Matrix film, I didn't think I would but was dragged along and in the end enjoyed it...2nd was a weak echo, nothing more, 3rd one was incoprehensible. quite enjoyed fight club as well, purely because I expected it to be one sort of thing (thought we were in for a boring van-damme-esque sweaty knuckles movie) and it was something entirely different.

Now as for Monty( was it?) who defended TC....I don't give a fuck that he believes all human evil is caused by the insane souls of ancient alien prisoners...I care that he he took my favourite book, a jewel of our language that says SO much, about so many things....the purest science fiction novel ever written......and turned it into crying children and the fucking US marines shooting martians (I have no doubt the marines would face the martians well, but in Wells' view, they'd get toasted). Anyone who doesn;t hate Tom Cruise, and has time to read a short novel ( a mere 150 pages)...please read WOTW, then watch his abuse of it, you'll hate him too.

One other film I seen reasonably recently was thunderbirds. Now laugh if you will at the sight of yours truly, looking every bit the timelord (ie, strange and alien), sitting in a cinema alone ( yeah cos all my mates were in a real hurry to go with me) surrounded by kids...LOL I'm surprised they didn't station security around me :D Anyway, The film bugged me. The effects were a joke compared to the original from 40 years ago, and it made me genuinely loathe the Tracey family. In it's redemption...Lady Penelope was far more the Lady-P of book and comic, than the barbie on strings she was in the TV show....it was nice to see her played according to her character....ie the original Lara Croft. Thing is, the TV show is a kid's show that treats kids like grown ups, which is probably why so many grownups have a softspot for it, the film was just a kids film, the only "adult" content are risque gags about penny's tits.

Star wars Ep 3 was much better than I expected. I lost the will to live somewhere half way through ep2....when it turned into dynasty for an hour. But Ep3 actually covered some plot and story in between 15 min shots of that Himbo Skywalker pouting at that vile Padme woman (I don't think i was even invited to the meeting where natalie portman was voted as good looking...I would even have voted against her coming off the national bog-troll register).

Somebody slagged "The Core" off above....I think you missed the point of that film...it was a tongue in cheek, comic book thing ( I bloody hope it was anyway)....I loved it and laughed my balls off at it. At times it was as if it had been written by a mel brookes who had learned the arts of subtlety and restraint.

One final thing ( look it's fuck-off AM and I just got up so I am gonna talk bollox ok). I was laughin at the pink panzer trying to figure out where it had come from....I read the letters RWT about 100 times before it clicked...oh the shame :(

I have yet to see Episode 3 of Star Wars, though I have seen the rest. The prequels are not that bad, but they bite compared to the original trilogy.

the other sister

The first Matrix movie was a classic. The second was a ripoff, but had enough visually cool things to keep me interested. The third was shite, pure and simple, without even the satisfaction of a definitive ending. I liked Fight Club, thought it was original in a way, though I didn't like it as much as my mate who I saw it with. Star Wars ep3 was very good. Almost on par with the original trilogy. I'd maybe put it ahead of Return of the Jedi but definitley behind Star Wars and The EMpire Strikes Back. However, episodes 1 and 2 practically ruined the whole thing for me, they were so bad. Episode 1 was like watching CSPAN or something. Episode 2 was OK but I actually got tired of watching Jedis deflect laser blasts with their light sabers after a while.

I saw Phantasm II recently as a midnight movie played at a local theater. It's not so bad as long as you hope the filmaker wasn't taking it seriously.

The Arnie classic "Commando" has been on SpikeTV a lot this past weekend. Something about one guy decimating an entire army and not getting so much as a flesh wound just smacks of implausibility, I have to say. Sorry to shatter the illusion for anyone

Loved how the porsche that was damaged on one side, was flipped over and driven away. On the scene that it was flipped, it shows the damage to the side of the car. On another scene a few seconds later, the car is no longer damaged. It has to be Arnie's magic touch :D

I forgot about the star wars movies!

I was INCREDIBLY disappointed with the first star wars movie...even the second one too. probably because I literally grew up on ep4-6..my brother had just about ALL the toys (including the ewok tree village!! and the monster/creature from return of the jedi), the bedspread, wall paper, and sleeping bag..I was so jealous :(

I just found the special effects ruined it..it felt SO fake watching those movies after seeing the forests, deserts, and snow storms..I mean, obviously the outer space thing is fake in any of the movies, but everything on land just took so much away...I also really didn't like how jar-jar and many creatures looked so unreal. I know it takes a lot of time to use digital images, but it's just not the same as the personal touch, effort, and detail of the real costumes and actors.

The third one was pretty good - probably because the plot develops so much. it's hard to remember..I've been meaning to buy a nice collectors set of all 6 movies (I don't even know if they have that out yet..? probably, i just haven't bothered looking, not that I actually have the money to get them..)

It seems like they put so much effort into the special effects on episodes 1 & 2 that they forgot to add good characters and interesting stories.

Ditto. After being told my several friends 'You've got to watch it, it's a cult classic, blah blah', i excitedly settled down to watch. It started off promising but i gradually realised it wasn't keeping my attention. At the end i was just sat there thinking "What? That's it?"

I always find the 'hilarious' comedies shite as well. American Pie, Meet the Fockers, Something about Mary, etc. OK there's a couple of lines here and there but they never live up to my expectations.

I thought American Pie was OK, had some funny moments, but didn't live up to the hype. Never seen Meet the Fockers. Something about Mary, what a pile of crap. It has one or two funny moments, but I can't remember the last time I was so disappointed in a movie. I kept hearing how hilarious it was. Perhaps if I'd tipped back 8 or 9 pints beforehand, it would have been funny.

Terminator 3, WTF "Rise of the machines"..WHAT? in a truly odd convolution of spacetime, "rise of the cybermen" was exactly the same....not in terms of story but in terms of "hey, screw what the movie's about, let's get some tit shots and people have emotional breakdowns about all manner of random shit".... I mean really....was there anything in T3 about how skynet really took over, about how judgement day kicked off?? never mind how annoyingly prediectable the chick terminator was, mark my words folks T4 will be a dog or a kid

The Terminator movies fall prey to the syndrome whereby the amount of money spent on special effects is inversely proportional to the quality of the script. Terminator 1, cheap movie = good story.
