Great album TSR may be but to call it the best debut ever is foolish.

Love The VU and Nico, but don't know that I'd say it's the best debut album ever. My vote would go to something more like B&S's "Tigermilk", JD's Unknown Pleasures, or the first album (albeit the only one with the original line-up) from the Modern Lovers.

I know the first time I heard the album, I'd gotten it after buying White Light/White Heat, so I wondered who this German woman was who was ruining some decent songs

But dammit, "I'll Be Your Mirror" is one of my favorite tracks on the album, and it's hard to imagine anyone else singing that.

So she brought something to the table for that first album, but very wisely left the band to do their own thing afterwards (Mo Tucker was more than capable on the songs that called for female vocalists in the later years)

Yes, it is a rather gorgeous picture of him. But Alan looks good in all photographs.

good call on the mogwai - though was v disappointed when i saw them live this year.

Saw them several times in Oxford around the time of Young Team/CODY and they were ace, but mates who've seen them more recently haven't been so impressed... In addition to the best debuts, all three of the albums I listed have barnstorming opening tracks, maybe that's some of the attraction... Disorder, Yes I Am A Long Way From Home, Svefn-G-Englar (ok, I ignored the intro track!)...

I bought the Television album sometime back, because it is on all these "best albums ever!" lists. Never really thought that much of it. Is there something I'm missing?
