Present!
I'm up cos this is my first of 8 nights off work and I am in the process of trying to flip over to "normal" time from "nightshift time".
That's so sensible Cambo. Thought I'd get a load of silly answers! Thought you were going to mention the old time machine and a couple of jelly babies...
Oh yeah, you weren't REALLY riding that SSL were you? I DID just dream it? ![]()
The beauties of unemployment, staying uplate and sleeping in late......
....as to why I'mon here posting, well wife's on the rag and there ain't nothing really to do.....
ooooooo..internet porn, a married man's next best friend!![]()
After 2am here and haven't been able to sleep for over a week or so. I broke my leg a month or so back requiring surgery and since the prescription pain killers ran out, I can't get comfortable and don't seem to get drowsy. I do manage to sleep a few hours at a time but the brace my leg is in doen't allow me much freedom to get in a comfy sleeping position. I've even tried sleeping pills to no avail. It'll be another 2 months before I can bear weight on the injured leg and lose the brace. This is hell. So, here I sit, surfing the net, watching tv, and woking on a bit of music here and there.... I'd much rather be sleeping!
Really sorry to hear that Chris :(
Well, I hope NOOL at least gives you the occasional laugh.
As for porn Edel
that's not for respectable married men. Oh yeah... ![]()

Always get the occassional laugh out of NOOL.
3:20 am... still wide awake... I'd feel much better if I could sleep. :(
Sorry to hear about the leg, probably can't drink I image, with meds and all...but mixing the right amount mught knock you out good..
And Chris, since when do you put "husband" and "respectable" in the same sentence? The key is too keep the standards low, and then the wives are happy with what they get.

Just another thought to keep you awake and terrified in yer beds - Who paints the pink lighty stuff on the heads of matches? Wouldn't want to be him when he wiped his arse. Especially if he uses the 'Izal Medicated'

Awake because I find it liberating not having to confront the mindless masses abroad in the midday sun. Ergo my body clock is now convinced I'm an owl!
"In darkness there is no sinLight only brings the fearNothing to corrupt the eyesThere is no vision hereAt first you may find it strangeBut do not go awayThe darkness holds a powerThat you won't find in the day"
Good morning everyone :)
MIMX - nowt wrong with that. Avoid the masses at all costs. Unless you're the Pope. Think he might get into trouble for that.
How's everyone doing? I've got an absolute poop load of work to do, but that's just going to have to wait a while.
You all obviously don't sleep that much, so you may be interested (and not as terrified as other people) to find out that:
'If one dreams of falling, with the classic 'muscle-jerk' reaction in the mid point between consciousness and sleep, you're 86% more likely to die of a Myocardial Infarction (heart attack) than if you were awake.'
Don't blink, don't blink, don't blink and for god's sake don't fall asleep...
EDIT: And thanks for the Wait For The Blackout' quote MIMX. Cool song to play live ;)

I do not sleep well unless I am sedated or in my own bed. Since I am not at home it is the latter.

Chrissy taught me from her experience...
....you invite an unsupecting girl in your abode, and then immediately start wanking off in front of her![]()
Lads, lads, my lovely hairy lads, no need to talk of such tripe.
I know a perfectly good Orang Utan who would service you for a mere five dollars then beat you to sleep with a coconut. You can't say fairer than that. Okay, she's a redhead, but still.
And if you fall asleep straight after sex, you don't deserve to get it in the first place!

I've never had a redhead (or an orang utang - oook!) but i do think they are VERY sexy (not orang utangs) specifically the auburn shades - no idea why i find that so attractive

There are still rustlings in the branches in the tree outside. I locked the window but I can still hear them. There it goes again, something screamed. I need to text for help.

Here to the rescue Chris. That orangatang outside is probably pretty unruly, but with the proper techniques from this website HOW TO TAME AN ORANGATANG, I think you can handle the problem all by yerself

WTF? After less than 3 minutes she wanted me to go to bed with her. THAT won't cure my insomnia :(
Thanks for trying though ![]()
Get a job on nightshift, and thereby fool your insomnia inducing demons into thinking they've won, then you can sneak some sleep in during the day!
(doesn't work)
Starting to wonder if this warrants a poll.....Do New Order fans exhibit a statistically significant variance from the main population with regards to sleep anomallies.
2 other things I should have mentioned.....
Bently....how can you do music on a computer in that state? Or are you working in hardware in the real world (always a lot easier, less of the whole left brain right brain left brain right brain flip flop)
And , Mr Nash, good use of the Dr "don't blink" thing. The last 2 mins of that episode were priceless....right and 3 and 2 and 1 and TERRIFY THE KIDS (and Chris)

I was browsing on NOOL (surprise, surprise) and one of the 'header' pictures suddenly leapt out and smacked me with Bernard Matthews' very own giblets. It's the pic 'New Order 2005' with the lads just standing there. Phil Cunningham in that pic looks like a ginger Mark Gatiss from 'The League Of Gentlemen'. It was very, very scary.

Starting to worry me Chris, and you seemed so sane!
Mind you I am a renowned expert on lasting for weeks on an amount of sleep per 24 hours varying from 0-3. Eventually a sort of semi coma happens for 8 hours, from which I emerge long enough to feed, piss, smoke and check my various electronic minions, before crawling back into bed for another 6 or so, bliss. Judging by the level of mental you're approaching, I'd expect that when you do sleep, you'll wake up with a beard.
PS: have you noticed bits of your room sort of ebbing and flowing like gentle waves yet? It's a positive highlight for me, and a message that it's really time to make another sleep attempt.
Thanks for the kind thoughts Steve. Found a temporary solution. Apes don't like Kraftwerk at full volume in German. Trouble is, at that volume I can't sleep either...
I think I may be able to help with the ape problem too.
Check your garden or general environs for a giant black space brick in the proportion 1x4x9 (and so on into higher dimensions). This will be what keeps bringing the apes. Thing is, the longer you leave it, the smarter the apes get.
Would suggest you spot the reference, but Nora will beat you to it.

Not as confusing as 14K's posts of course.Although they are great and stuff but , yer know....
I actually slept the last two nights. Shit. Doomed for another seven days with no sleep. Doesn't help that 'Dr Who' keeps scaring the living poop out of me. Feels like I'm still five years old, but I don't have a sofa to hide behind now.
To add to that, the wind is blowing, the rain is falling, and there's something tapping at my bedroom window.
*PLEASE don't let it be ginger knuckles*
![]()
Oh brilliant Steve. That makes me feel so much better. So I can rule out floating Daleks with ginger knuckles then?
As long as it's not a great big ginger Sontaran then (I know they were bald, but did you see their knuckles?) I MAY be able to sleep. ![]()
Do they even have knucles? I think they are short one finger anyway.
Could be worse, you could have sontarans and routans living next door keeping you up all night with their war across the galaxy.
Great, if it wasn't bad enough worrying about orang utans stealing my pants, I now have the terror of inter-galactic war on my doorstep. Bring back nice creatures like the Thaals or the Lepidoptera...
I don't just need my duvet now, I need a cuddle too. NO STEVE, NO!!! ![]()
Gone 2am and I'm all alone and shivering. Decided that Steve's Dr Who monsters are just fiction and calmed down a bit. Then, yes, you guessed it... rap...rap...rap. Fcuking '50 Cent'. Turned MTV off and the terrible rapping continues. I know I have no washing out on the line. Maybe they want to get it from the radiators now. Ginger bastards.
I feel odd. New pills today, list of sidies runs to 4 A4 sheets. so far, I'm just odd. They're called Roaccutane, have fun googling the side effects. They are FOR acne, but docs have found they sometimes fix my affliction too, since it is also related to hyperactive skin (makes is sound like a rash FFS!). Had 3 lectures from doc, nurse and hossy pharmacist today on subject of how to survive them. But as I said to the nurse, I'd be up for a course of leeches and a few holes in the head to let me demons out if it means I can walk in a non comedic manner again.
I didn't dare to open this thread for days because I thought it's about a band called The Insomniacs and I honestly don't care about them. ![]()

They were still a hundred yards from the New Rock when the sound began. It was barely audible, yet it stopped them dead, so that they stood paralyzed on the trail with their jaws hanging slackly. A simple, maddeningly repetitious vibration, it pulsed out from the crystal; and hypnotized all who came within its spell. For the first time - and the last, for three million years - the sound of drumming was heard in Africa. The throbbing grew louder, more insistent. Presently the man-apes began to move forward, like sleepwalkers, toward the source of that compulsive sound.Sometimes they took little dancing steps, as their blood responded to rhythms that their descendants would not create for ages yet. Totally entranced, they gathered round the monolith, forgetting the hardships of the day, the perils of the approaching dusk, and the hunger in their bellies. The drumming became louder, the night darker. And as the shadows lengthened and the light drained from the sky, the crystal began to glow. First it lost its transparency, and became suffused with a pale, milky luminescence, Tantalizing, ill-defined phantoms moved across its surface and in its depths. They coalesced into bars of light and shadow, then formed intermeshing, spoked patterns that began slowly to rotate. Faster and faster spun the wheels of light, and the throbbing of the drums accelerated with them. Now utterly hypnotized, the man-apes could only stare slack-jawed into this astonishing display of pyrotechnics. They had already forgotten the instincts of their forefathers and the lessons of a lifetime; not one of them, ordinarily, would have been so far from his cave, so late in the evening. For the surrounding brush was full of frozen shapes and staring eyes, as the creatures of the night suspended their business to see what would happen next. Now the spinning wheels of light began to merge, and the spokes fused into luminous bars that slowly receded into the distance, rotating on their axes as they did so. They split into pairs and the resulting sets of lines started to oscillate across one another, slowly changing their angles of intersection. Fantastic, fleeting geometrical patterns flickered in and out of existence as the glowing grids meshed and unmeshed; and the man-apes watched, mesmerized captives of the shining crystal. They could never guess that their minds were being probed, their bodies mapped, their reactions studied, their potentials evaluated. At first, the whole tribe remained half crouching in a motionless tableau, as if frozen into stone.

Grabbing crutches but need to borrow a gun. The only weapon I can locate to shoot at the moment is an old can of WD40.

Go and seek professional help for all your noises.
The noises are REAL Ron - Fulham Football Club have bells on strings in their training ground for some daft reason (opposite my house). Wind blows = bells ring = Apes wake up = Chris wakes up...
Mr B. I have some WD40 too - you think that would work or would we just end up with lots of slippery apes and even more slippery frogs?

You could try listening to this...
Works for me, usually.
Last night I went to bed at 11pm in the vain hope of falling asleep. It went like this:
23:20 - drunk arseholes out of the pub, playing footie with tin cans in the street and fighting. Got half dressed, went downstairs and told them to fuck off home (screamed actually) They were so surprised that they actually did. Well, very large, angry half naked man with a hunting knife... wouldn't you?
12:00 - dried off my feet, went back to bed
12:40 - ducks screaming while being killed by foxes (wouldn't you?)
01:15 - Crying outside. Human crying that is. And yelling. Got dressed. Went downstairs. Turns out a mum had gone out with son and daughter, got wrecked and fallen over in our front yard. Sorted them out, dried my feet again, went to bed.
02:00 - Can't sleep, but determined not to post
02:30 - Still can't sleep. Watch a rerun of 'One Foot In The Grave'
03:15 - Settle down to sleep. Then the foxes and ducks start again
03:30 - Put on headphones to listen to music. All I can get out of then is a scratching sound. F**king Orang Utans again.
04:00 - Manage to sort out headphones but hear a loud rustling outside.
04:15 - Still can't work out what it is, but must be f**king ginger.
04:30 - Lying there awake, far too hot for an hour.
04:45 - Manage to nod off.
05:30 - Knocking on my door. Get up, no one there.
06:00 - Manage to doze off again.
06:44 - Text received.
06:47 - Sigh, get up, make a cup of tea, start work.

Thanks Jen, but at this rate, I'd start hammering People rather than apes around these parts of f**king 'Sarf Lundawn Innit'
Besides, I've got plenty of weaponery. Just illegal to use it.
However, a can of Heinz tomato soup wrapped in a Tesco's 'bag for life' and swung with force into some f**kers face - I may get away with it:
'I was on my way home from shopping at the 24 hour place down the road officers and this cnut attacked me'
It's worked before - 'shopping' isn't counted as an offensive weapon, as long as it's not a knife, gun, baton, truncheon, tazer,
or orang utan.

and now if you don't mind, chris:
"You will need........ 3.5x10^12 identical "quantumn pairs" 2xsub gamma ray scanning lasers 1x jaffa cake
simply one of each quantumn twin pair to the departure point and the other to the destination. Next use the scanning laser to compare in sequence, each particle in the pile of quantumn twins with a corresponding particle in the target jaffa cake. now transmit the result to the destination point and apply that to the reciprocal quantumn twins, et voila! a Jaffa cake will appear out of thin (or slightly pudgy air).
NOTE: owing to Hesienberg's uncertainty principle, one cannot know what a particle is doing and where it is at the same time. While this method largely avoids this by making direct comparison rather than quantitative measurement, there is still a non zero probability that any given jaffa cake transmission may be recived with a sub-optimal smashing orangey bit in the middle, or as a lemon and lime variant, as a small venezeulan river leech, or even a mass of expanding proto hydrogen (some people believe our universe was initially created by a jaffa cake relocation gone wrong) However, in payback for these paltry risks, you DO get 2 jaffa's from one (the energy to create the second one being fed in at the destination point)."
courtesy of the good doctor. many thanks. horribly plausible as promised ![]()
Wouldn't it be easier to just go buy some more jaffa cakes???
I've got a headache after reading all that...

The small, brown wrinkled gentleman behind the counter at the garage gave me a very strange look. I swear his ginger arms were a bit too long for his body.
My lack of sleep is becoming a joke of the calibre of Monty Python's WWII uberjoke.
In the last week I've done several 36-40 hour stints, only to be rewarded with maybe two hours of sleep. The moment I wake for any reason, it's all over, zero chance of getting back to sleep.
In ten days the longest period of sleep I've had is 4.5 hours and that required a 40 hour waking beforehand. A typical sleep cycle for me currently would be this mornings.....went to bed at 0400, must have drifted off about a quarter past. woke at 0445 spent 15 mins trying to get back, failed and bailed, been up since.

Gotta be careful what I take when on these pills, me liver is on overtime coping with them, all I have tried is Valerium with limited success.
However, I can report that following a stint from 1400 yesterday till 1100 today, with no food or drink but water from 2200 (blood tests this morning to see if I can have yet MORE of these pills, JOY), I slept like a geological formation for at least 7 hours today, even if my dog DID bark me out of bed twice.

Watched this one last night before going to bed and for the first time in ages I actually slept well.
It's one of those 'peaceful' scenes of English countryside - it was an advert for a car, filmed for British TV that was never broadcast because the edit suite team and the director noticed a 'ghostly' presence following the car through the countryside and they decided not to broadcast it because apparently, some poor girl was killed in a car crash on the stretch of road where they filmed.
